The cool jobs

What would be the 'cool jobs' right now to have. The ones that if you say Im a .... people will gasp in awe and say I wish I had your job.

I totally dont get that in my profession. I say Im a librarian and most people go oh ok and change the subject. Im so so disappointed that its just not cool. What do you have to do to be respected?

Maybe I should say Im something else, like a babysitter.

Cool is only important if:
A - You care what people think;
B - What you consider cool aligns with what they consider cool.

A job is a job, a means to an end of making money, which is itself a means to an end... so "cool" doesn't really factor into it. But even if it did, and even if I had a job I consider cool, it wouldn't be worth telling people about because I would have to explain the job to normal people. The jobs I think are cool, normal people think are esoteric.

The best situation is when you do not feel the need to be respected by others.. That frees you from performance anxiety.. If people look down upon other people based on what carrier /job they have then they are the deficient ones who are judging others on unimportant things..

But as for a job i would like.. hummm maybe an Astronaut.. Yeah an Astronaut about to fly a space ship to mars. Would suit me as a cool job..

Geology would be a "cool" job. I could introduce myself as, "Hey my name is Isaac, and I study THAT!" and point down.

Geologists who do not introduce themselves that way, I don't know what they are doing with their lives...

The freezing works is a cool job...literally.

But I dont really want to kill animals.

Gardener seemt to get more respect in some circles. Although others just think it means you are a weedkiller. Or they say can you do mine? I will pay you below minimum wage.

Hmmm....I think “cool jobs” now would be ones where you get to have adventures and get paid for it. Travel blogger, maybe a survivor-esque game show contestant, maybe a gaming YouTuber.

Not sure what the definition for a “cool job” is, but any job could be “cool” by how you make it, for example, I use to work in a mail sorting factory where the work was super repetitive and after a few days you could pretty much do the work with your eyes closed, but my colleagues and I would create games to make it fun while working - so going to work made things a little more exciting.

In all honesty, I think my personal “cool job” is seeing people coming to Jesus when God uses me in the workplace - He’s done this multiple times and continues to do so, my cool job is ministering to people in “my workplace”, and it’s something I’ve never expected to happen.

That is cool, I had a boy come tell me hes getting baptised this weekend so decided I will come along to witness. He asked to borrow a Bible. I have seen this boy grow so much in the short time Ive been on this job and hes only ten.

But they did put on nice morning teas each week, although the oldies never baked that I can recall as they were wealthy enough to have someone else do it for them at their cafe.

That's great to hear.. a mother who homeschooled their son until he was accepted for a scholarship for grade 7 worried that he is being swayed into other teachings and beliefs. But after a while and his son has reached out to a classmate who got interested in joining the small Christian groups that gathered weekly, she sees there is nothing to worry about.

Cool jobs are, I think, where we are able to share Christ whatever it is, as others have said. Not many now believe motherhood is cool, tho we'd sometimes hear people say that! In reality, many stay-at-home or work-at-home moms probably are managing/coping to keep things running catching up on menial stuff, but the perspective drastically changes when they realize the part of the body that seems insignificant is actually very important. I know of children who do not appreciate their moms esp staying home, thinking she could bring home more bread or bacon instead, but believe that in good time, they will. Some may be too young or immature to realize, but some know in their heart that what their moms be doing is priceless.. even if they sometimes seem to envy others they see moms in corporate clothes. Thankfully, God makes all things beautiful in its time.

I dont but it seems other people do. I find all kinds of work that people do interesting whether paid or unpaid.
Even if someone said they were a rubbish collector or Stocked shelves at the supermarket I would find it interesting and ask them questions about it because I havent done those jobs and imagine the workload must be pretty heavy at times.
I am quite in awe of the accounts lady at school because shes so good with figures. I wouldnt be very good at that job but shes a whiz at it.
Receptionsists are also interesting because they talk with people all the time, and are constantly interrupted but handle it with good grace. How do they handle always being on call and not being able to get away from the desk?
Gardening is hard work as is cleaning but its quite satisfying. i dont like it when people look down on certain jobs and see it as beneath them. Everyone has an important bit to do.
Being a mum is one of the most demanding yet joyful of them all, but not everyone is cut out for it.

I know people who are disabled and they really want to work and feel useful. So any job they can do and do well I would encourage. Some of the most creative people are unable to hold down a tradtional job but isnt being creative, like writing or painting or making art work anyway?

Im leaning toward baker, but more baking bread not cakes.

Pros...fresh bread everyday, mmm the smell. Hands on and creative. Get to knead lots of dough.

Cons...never get a holiday because have to bake bread everyday. Early starts at 4am. Be ok in winter but summer round a hot oven all the time dont think I could handle

Being a baker would be good, I support getting into any trade really. You can work for someone else or open your own business, if youre so inclined.

The Hutterites are an interesting group of people. They are like the Amish in their spirituality and way of life but a bit more communal. Everyone has a job to do and although some jobs are clearly more important in terms of production for the community, no member is put above the other. Everyone works for the collective good and is treated accordingly.

No status unlike our very unhealthy rat race, dog eat dog world we live in today.

writer is something I could do, but you have to be published to say you are a writer, and self-publishing doesnt count. you also need an agent. Its like being an actor, unless you are known and won a few oscars (or book awards) it doesnt count as legit.

In other peoples eyes anyway. A lot of people seem to judge you on how much money they think you make, which is silly. If I went round judging people based on their bank account, I would be an accountant. that person is in the black, that person is in the red...

Have a friend who is a teacher,and she says she gets dismised all the time, and hates going to her partners work dos, because people just talk shop.

A lot of people have more than one job because wages are so low.

I asked all the teacher aides about their second jobs and got so many different answers it was a bit crazy.
But TAs consider that their job even though their second job might actually pay more.

I dont know if I could be a dedicated teacher aide, but just the privilege of watching children grow would makes the job worthwhile, especially if the child has to overcome difficulties that others would just place them in the 'too hard' basket.

The other day a girl made blue slime for me and I felt I had the coolest job ever. She'd found out how to make it from 'The Slime Book' I had put in the library.

It looks like I might have a second job this year working in a bookshop. Hooray!

It is going to be really cool. Of course, for some people, working in retail has got to be the lowest of the low but I dont care, I like books, whether selling them or letting people borrow them.

I think being an actor or actress would be a stressful job if you had performance anxiety. But otherwise, its a fun gig if you get to film in exotic locations.
