This number keeps going up, first it was 2, then 5, 7 and now 9. Its very much 'ho hum, nothing to see here folks' kind of reporting. That largest quake was 6.2 and all of the quakes are reported to be about 100 kilometres (60 odd miles) off the coast and always at a depth of about 5 kilometres, or just over 3 miles. No tsunamis are expected and there's been no reports of damage, its being said that none of the quakes have been felt by people on BC's coast.

I'm going on vacation tomorrow, and I didn't think I'd be posting again until my return in January...but thankfully everything is pretty much ready to go, just need to load up the car for the drive to the airport tomorrow. These earthquakes are happening in an area called 'the ring of fire'

Hopefully nothing more serious happens...although if I do end up being stuck in the sunny Caribbean for the duration of the winter months I guess there are worse places.

Lots of video on these too. See YouTube
Thanks for that, I'm in Ontario and have never really experienced a earthquake. I say "really" because back sometime around 2000 when I was living east of Toronto there was one which registered about 3 which I experienced but I didn't know it was an earthquake until a day or two later when it was reported on the news....when it happened it was like a train rumbling by, or a low flying plane passing just over head, and I just wondered: "Hmmmm, what was that"?

It turns out there actually is a fault line which runs under the St Lawrence River and continues into Lake Ontario, however its said to be very inactive...and given that I've lived in this area most of my life and that was the only quake I've ever felt or heard about it seems to be the case.

We had an earthquake where I lived some years ago. It was much like you describe in that it wasn't like what they show in the news when everthing starts to shake and break apart. It was a quake but it felt like a vibration was running through the floor of the house. Which back then was felt when big loaded trucks would pass by my house on the main highway in front. It was still fascinating to experience my first quake though.

Everyone talks about the fault line that runs through California and the fault line just off their coast in the pacific. However, there's a little discussed fault line that runs parallel to the eastern seaboard as well in the Atlantic.
And lake Okeechobee in Florida is the largest sink hole in north America. While Yellowstone national park boasts the largest dormant volcano in north America.
In a huge series of events, were a quake to strike off the west coast and the east, we'd see one heck of a catastrophe ensue, to hear tell it. Psunami off both coasts first, then Florida would be drawn into the waters due to the sinkhole there. Suddenly people in south Dakota would have beach front property. :giggle:

I'm on Vancouver Island right now and there were no injuries and things seem fine. No one I know felt anything. I did have friends from as far away as Turkey writing to see if we were OK. I am heading home on the ferries tomorrow so since we will be on open water I'd appreciate prayer that we would be protected from any after shocks. As always, every day of our lives is a matter of God's will.

Just trust in the right ferries.
Alaska and Canada have reliable ferries.
No worries, sistah... Ocean waves are usually not even noticed at sea, like the one recently in Alaska. They can be detected by seismic bouy's, but are not an issue unless there is major displacement of ocean water. The safest place to be, is on a ship at sea. The first one likely quieted the Pacific Rim there.
And Canada is one if the safest places to be because they have a top secret early warning system of thousands of Canadian geese who patrol the Pacific coast and I hear are equipped with sophisticated satellite telemetry to warn Canada if there are Americans approaching their shores.

The thing to worry about is if the satellite that those geese are depending on gets taken out by one of those asteroids in a close fly by, they would have to rely on a wing and a prayer,. In that case, a giant asteroid the size of Iceland, could be missed, and a one in a million chance, could hit the Pacific and create a 1000 foot high tsunami, just like in those movies that could carry your ship to the top of Mt. Ararat where Noah's Ark is. But that's just a worst case scenario.

So just make sure there are two of every kind of animal on the car deck.

But, I'm sure the Lord would let us know ahead of time, and the safest place to be would be on the beach with a Bible and Christian friends, knowing that all who trust in Jesus will be safe, like the Israelites walking through the ocean, with the walls of water on each side,
And rescue us all who believe and trust in the One who can calm the seas.

I'm hoping and praying for another Christmas. But, it's a good time to start thinking about the Lord's return. There's so much good in the world, but so much suffering too, and it will be a wonderful day when Jesus makes it a safe world, free of dangers. Whether it's 10 years from now, or a 100. The math works for it to be sooner than later. I think we as Christians should start praying for His return to stay in the Lord's presence, and He'll let us know.

Years ago, I had a dream about a quake hitting Mexico, and I was in a hotel, and it collapsed, and I shouted, "trust in the Lord," to those in the room, as the building collapsed over, and awoke in Heaven. There was green grass everywhere, and blue sky, and a scene of peaceful order and safety.

I believe we have more time, but Christians should be grateful for each year, and each decade.

I believe I heard the Lord say a few days ago:. "celebrate.".
But we should always be mindful of those who are suffering.
You all know this, but the best way to prepare is to remember the words of Jesus, "why did you worry? Did you not know that I would be about my father's business?".
So, if a child can do this,
maybe we all can too, even us with our Valium, and a wing and a prayer...
And remember the Apostle Timothy, who faced such suffering.
St. Patrick who stared down hundreds of pagans.
Elijah, who was wearied, but alone faced 400 pagan cultists.
Joan of Arc faced martyrdom.
I'll refer you to one of my lady guardian angels who said as I worried in a snow storm:. "Don't worry about it!". I said, what do you mean, don't worry about it?
There's intense sleet, my car is sliding everywhere, I'm late, I don't have gas money home anyway, and you say, "don't worry about it!?". Ok, I'm listening.
And a couple miles up the road, the snowstorm stopped, the sun came out, and the roads were dry like summer.
Jesus said to the Apostles, "ye of little faith, why did you not trust me?".
As I drove to an emergency room, very I'll, after a flu, the Lord said compassionately, "O faithless one...you almost stranded yourself with your own words.". When I carelessly used unnecessary spiritual warfare, not knowing the power of His words, even spoken casually.

I'm facing intense pain, and the Lord said, "there's nothing you have that can not be fixed if you trust in Me and believe."
So, why would He say that, and "celebrate," if there was not another Christmas?

This summer, as I feared I was dying, barely able to stand in church, there was a thunderclap over the church, and I heard the terrifying words, "Excommunicated.".
No one knows who.

As I freaked out, I later heard the comforting words of Mary, saying, "your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit.". And another time, "My son holds you in the palm of His hand."
And another time Jesus said, "your salvation is assured, but you can not assume that of others,". Meaning that we should judge no one, and reach out to all people with the message of salvation, fearlessly.

Praying for safe passage for you and yours, this Christmas and always.
Your Christian brother,

Just looked up USGS earthquake map and yes they are all shallow less then 10KM in depth. most of the quakes i see like that happen on the expansion joints of the earth's crust not the subduction zones.. Other shallow earthquakes can be signs of magma moving near the surface.. So maybe it indicates that a submarine volcano is coming to life out there..

I see the quakes are happening on the small Juan de fuca plate which is the plate that has the subduction zone on it's eastern side diving under the US plate.. That's where the very large thrust earthquakes happen every couple of hundred years or so.. I hope these earthquakes do not trigger an large one on the subduction zone.. That will be a big disaster..

I was on the southern tip, Victoria, and have now crossed over to Vancouver. We had a safe crossing and I am heading inland. Thanks so much for the research and the kind wishes. I have several dear friends on the west coast of the island so I will keep praying for their ongoing safety.

I'm done with the doomsday stuff. The Lord advised me to stand down and not stir up fears.

Sure, you hear it everyday. "If the big one goes, California is gonna be under the Pacific, etc...".

The real danger is if the Pacific plate goes at the same time an asteroid hits Yellowstone, and that whole Caldera takes out three states, and triggers every volcano in the area, that could create an Ash cloud the size of South America. But, if an asteroid hits the Pacific at the same time, the water vapor would rain out the whole Ash cloud, and except for a few hurricanes, a few hundred tornadoes, things could return to normal in a few weeks.

And the good news is that the undersea volcano could create s new tropical island, and a great vacation spot closer than Hawaii, which the Hawaiians wouldn't mind since they get tired of ripping off clueless tourists, and need to get to church anyway.

But the real good news, is that God is in control, and has the power to calm any storm.
Within our hearts,
or out in the Pacific,
or under the Pacific.
And everyone who knows Jesus will "soar on wings of eagles..."

A powerful God who can take a whole nation of people through an ocean with walls of water on each side, and mercifully and swiftly drown a whole pursuing army,
can be trusted to rescue His faithful people.
But us wavering fearful ones, might need a phone call in the foxhole to remind us that all we need to do is call upon the Lord, and the Angels will take action.

The Lord did say, blessed are all who believe without seeing.
Not that those who falter will not be rewarded, or that we are not blessed also. But didn't Paul say that if we see God's power ahead of time, then how would that be faith? I am one of the most mustard seed dropout Christians around, and the Lord just said, "O faithless one...".
He didn't say that I would never find the mustard seed, only that He understands human suffering and weakness, and in those weakest moments when we can barely cling to a mustard seed of sanity in our trembling hands,
The power of Christ becomes unimaginable, because then we as Christians understand it is His power, not our own.
The Lord said, "My strength is perfected in human weakness." ((paraphrase)

Looked on google earth. You have Rocky Point to the south west of victoria which would probably take the brunt of the waves power but there would definitly be a wave bending around it and would flood the lower parts of Victoria.. I would be in my car and heading inland as soon as i felt a strong earthquake happening. I would also make up one of those emergency supply boxes to throw into the boot of your car as you go.. I would not wait for any offical warnings..

If it turns out well and nothing happens then you can drive back home with a smile on your face.. Nothing lost..

I don't post to stir up fear.. I post to give valid warning to what is possible in the area when a major earthquake happens.. People should and can make plans for what to do when they feel an earthquake.. As the Indian earthquake in 2004 and the Japanese earthquake in 2011 revealed the earthquake it'self is not the greatest danger the Tsunamies that struck the costs after those earthquakes took the vast majority of the lives lost in those disasters.. Coastal North western USA is in the same situation as Japan and Sumartra..

There are other places on the globe that have thrust subduction zone earthquakes in the sea close to the coast and are just as dangerous like the North island of New Zealand and the coast of Chile..

I have family and friends on Vancouver Island as well, some of whom live within the danger zone for even a small tsunami. A series of relatively small earthquakes is very good news. It means that the stresses in the crust are being relieved gradually, and that diminishes the likelihood of a major, destructive quake.

But, the small quakes COULD jar loose the last Boulder holding the earth together, and trigger an eruption that would make Krakatoa seem like a firecracker. But Vancouver Island could be spared unless you all are an earthquake magnet like me. Just pray that God would have mercy, and not be like that guy in the Psalms that asked God to let him recover so he could really GET EVEN with his enemies! It really is there in the Bible. That's really honesty.

Just in case, I'm gonna pray that nothing breaks loose on your watch. Canada needs a little shaking up, but not Vancouver Island. So beautiful there!

I am a Canadian citizen by birthright, and raised American. My mother was able to sort it all out graciously. That was one of her amazing gifts. My family always enjoyed traveling to Canada, and I have had many enjoyable scenic road trips through the Canadian wilderness. I believe the Marine highway goes by Vancouver Island, which I have taken south. The world is so shaken. Let's keep praying for peaceful waters. "The Lord is my shepherd... He leads me beside quiet waters." (Psalm 23:1-2; NIV).
