Chapter 2 verse 18..... Yea a man may say...

James is clearly responding to those who are attempting to argue that faith/belief is not sufficient to save.

James then very clearly responds to this is in line 21 using Abraham as an example of faith being demonstrated by works to men.... he was called a friend of God by men.
Scripture does not teach spurious faith... faith is faith.
Wrong
James starts the whole argument with the question..
what if someone claims to have faith but has no works can that faith save? (Does it have the power to save?
His answer.... No

his faith is dead. Ie non existent. It was mere belief only which never saved anyone

Something sticks out with the people who believe Salvation can be lost , JOY , yes , they lack Joy...
I have said it before , and only by my observations I keep noticing this , they tear down rather than build up...

Jesus said there are two foundations , Rock and sinking sand , they remind me that they feel they are walking in fear , always ready to sink some more ...I think that is why I do not see Joy in their post , it is very sad indeed

And as the old adage goes . . .
misery loves company.

No joy in insecurity ...............and misery definitely loves company.

Sad on so many levels agree

I would love to share with you all my newborn grandson Tommy , he was born this morning...
My mum died when I was 3 , I had no grandparents and my dad deserted me and my 3 sisters...

Before I was born again , I used to cry to my mum , asking her to look after me , blaming God for taking her the way she did , and leaving behind 4 little ones who all off our lives where wretched...

But now , O my goodness , God has restored to me more then what the locusts ate , He brought me beauty from the ashes...

He has blessed me with 15 grandchildren , and another on the way , my prayer is that God may use me to bring my grandchildren to Him , that they know His name , and His Son Jesus...

I don't think he meant fruit in the sense of the Fruits of the Spirit. Rather fruits like being used of God to bring others to Christ.
Fruit also if a changed life. Which Helps draw others to Christ

Given the severe persecution that these Jews were under they were indeed believers... more likely they were afraid to proclaim their faith for fear of reprisals
Can their faith save them?

your context is off

Typical of OSAS who say they can live as they like and are always saved.

I do not separate anything. I became a new creation at salvation and live accordingly, as Christ would wish, putting aside the ways of the world. I am in the world, but not of the world and so should all believers be, otherwise they are in danger of making a shipwreck of their faith. I am aware of the pitfalls, you appear not to be.
Osas does not say this

That’s proves you have no understanding of osas

you can not discuss if you do not understand

For goodness sake. We would not be warned about the dangers of making a shipwreck of our faith if it could not happen.
We could if our faith is dead
