Yeah... internet catfishing is not nearly as profitable. No plate of catfish for supper.

People who catfish online should really get a hobby, like golf or video games or coin collecting or something.

For some reason every time I see this thread I start humming "Date My Avatar."

Do you wanna date my avatar?
She's a star
And she's hotter than reality by far
Wanna date my avatar?

I know there are so many scam artists on the internet. I never was cat fished of-fish-ally. Usually I am very wise and sense stuff is up and does not add up. When the internet first came out when I was a super unhappy and abused teen I would get online and pretend to be this person I wasn't but it wasn't to hurt anyone. I think I just wanted people to think I was who I wanted to be, but I never spoke to the same person more than once.

In recent years I wasn't naturally catfished - but I met a man who was "A L L - T H I S" in his head. He was a Christian and all that but came quickly to find out that the person he thinks himself to be - and the person he was were not the same. And so our ways parted. I don't think he meant this to happen - but the whole episode ended up really hurting me. My tip to all you ladies and gents. Just because you want a BF/GF doesn't mean God's timing is quite there.
I said to God: "AIGHT! I AM REAAAAADY!!!! IMA GET ME A BOIFREEEEN! WATCH AND LEARN!"

And then it was more like Watch me burn - and God was there to pick up the pieces. OOF.

I do have these weirdos asking if I need a daddy all the time "Need sugar daddy hunny? I wanna spoil you." So annoying. And then there are those that want your money - telling you if you send 600$ you would receive 20'000$ - the 600$ are needed to secure the winnings. And these pop up around the holidays a lot. And I know some desperate, poor mama hoping to give her kids a nice Christmas fall for these people. And it makes me so mad to know that they are exploiting people.

I always end up asking them 'You do know God sees everything you are doing? And if you don't get caught in this life you will answer to him when you die?" LOL They never bother me after that....

Oh and yeah there was a guy on here who was too perfect.
He said he had no family - we had the same passions and for some reason he kept saying he had a lot of money he just couldn't wait on spending to create a Non Profit.

We talked for a few days and being a nice person I believed him for a while (And honestly what he said could still be true - idk...) But then one night suddenly he turned out to be one of those "The world is flat" Christians....

At that I said good night and a respectful "You are a little coockoo..." and woke up to no less than 85 emails with his weird superstition theories in my inbox Peppered with some choice remarks which always make it so much easier to move on... lol

I was once "Catfished" several years ago. Someone set me up on a blind date with a young lady who did not even come close to fitting the description that I received about her. It's not like I was actually expecting to meet a super model (even though she was practically described as one), but yikes! I also wasn't expecting Larry the Cable Guy's sister X 10 either!

the whole catfishing thing in reverse, well I dont know so much about that but I do know that people can get the wrong idea about other people so I made another thread about that.

The thing is you then need to correct them and say well actually I am not a prostitute I dont know what gave you that impression. lol

Yes I’ve been in this situation before (catfished) and I praise God for giving us the Holy Spirit’s discernment.

Some are clearly obvious but then there are some who are really good at manipulating.

There are a lot of factors to consider as well, such as mental illness, or growing up in an unstable environment and I’m not trying to defend these people’s actions or motives but I can understand as to why they would resort to these measures. It’s a sad cycle, but we have to be vigilant and also pray for these lost people.

Umm reading this thread has made me wonder what the heck is the point in cat fishing?
Seems like a colossal waste of time. Unless they just get a kick out of it. They must realize that sooner or later they are going to be found a liar when you finally meet them.
There are a variety of motives. And not all of them have malicious intents, but lack the ability to recognize just how bad of an act it is.
Generally they never have intentions on meeting in person. Typically they don't even show their real faces, or even voices.
The MTV show Catfished is always an interesting watch that shows the broad spectrum of motives available. If you can get past the super liberal agenda they push.
Often times you'll feel saddened by the people doing it, in the end, because they're desperate for acceptance and friendship and deeply insecure. Going online let's them reinvent themselves and forces people to get to know them based off of personality (and often using photos of attractive people to lure people in).
We have a user on this site that has a fake profile picture up. Clearly a catfish.

Interesting watching those MTV shows, it also saddens me that people feel the need to do it , when in the end they end up hurting the other person and themselves.

There are some happy endings though 😅

Ok I admit it, I'm not some strange and awesome cat / chipmunk / whatever face in space looking at the world from afar. I'm just one of those normal everyday human beings that you may have walked past on the street or talked to on the phone when you called a support line. I'm sorry. I never meant to deceive anyone with my picture.

Yes... stick with Bosch, Makita, or DeWalt. They make the best routers. :D

Something I've seen recently, more than once, is dating site profile pictures that are obviously and very badly modified... you might not be able to tell with a thumbnail, but upon viewing the picture at normal size, the blend lines (paste spills?) become shockingly obvious. I have considered sending messages that bluntly say "The pictures are fake, so you must be too."

The ones that amazed me is when someone used a picture of themselves from their late teens or early 20s, as their profile picture, for a 50+ dating site. Are you saying you haven't had one good picture since then? Do you want me doing a before and after? Don't you have one friend you can hand a camera/phone and ask them to click a pic?

I think I would like to be crayfished, because I like eating crayfish.

mum always said I ought to marry a crayfish man.

Me, being a fishwife? I dunno. I suppose could get used to eating seafood everyday...alas, it hasnt happened. Only thing is, I would stay on the land cos I do get sea sick when out on the water. And Im not a great swimmer, so that puts kibosh to the idea of marrying someone who always wants to mess about on boats.

I once went out with someone on a date who was actually allergic to fish, so that was a bit of a deal breaker! How can you not enjoy a simple meal of fish and chips with me? I would be terrified that I would accidently kill them and not know what to do when they started getting annaphalxis.

Do you mean this......

Phishing ...noun
  1. the fraudulent practice of sending emails purporting to be from reputable companies in order to induce individuals to reveal personal information, such as passwords and credit card numbers.
"an email that is likely a phishing scam"
