What does it takes to love God? And how can we really love God?
Hello Mary, great questions :) I would say that first and foremost of all, we must come to truly "know" God, and He us .. John 17:3; cf Matthew 7:22-23, because it is (obviously) impossible to love someone who you do not know personally, or who you simply know of or about.

And the only way that we can come to know God is by coming to saving faith in our Lord Jesus Christ .. e.g. John 6:29.

How to love God? Look in a mirror. You are flesh, blood, bone and spirit. You have a soul, which is the gift of God and His will that you come to life. You have a spirit that links you to your maker so that in this life you are never alone. Without those two gifts of God you are nothing and would not exist as you are today.
If you thank someone for giving you anything at all, for serving you in a restaurant, for holding a door open that you may pass through, thank God for all that you are as a reflection of that sacred and Holy Spirit.
Born under the illusion this material world gives and takes, and you need work to receive and survive it. When deep inside you is the living God, the source behind all that exists, past, present and future. And you, when you come to realize His message was written only for you to understand, wherever you are in a moment of weakness, and as it was and is for each soul alive in this world, you shall. The love letter from the Creator unto you His beloved creation.
And it will comfort you, dry your tears, strengthen your resolve to make it through what you face in that moment. And it was a message breathed out before time began, and reaches you just in time to mean something.

God loves you.
In that reflection from that mirror before you, see God. For all that exists is of and from that which is the power of life and death. The source behind all that shall ever be. And to prove He loves you and is really there, His word that gave life in the beginning came to begin a life as a man in this world. He ministered to those who were dead in their illusions of this worlds temptations and satisfactions. He healed the blind that they may see beyond the darkness. He cleansed the one who was a house of demons and released them so that the temple of God would be free and alive in His light. He ministered truth, that there is no division in the human family, there is no separation, there is no classism, racism, sexism, prejudice of any kind because we are all born from the one source; God.

And He told us, if we trust that as truth and release the pain we live with living in this world and trust Him as our light, we shall be made whole, and the silver cord that has always been there shall resonate with the love and trust exchanged between Father and eternal child.
How shall you come to love God? By loving yourself first so as to realize God sent Himself to deliver you a message, and then He died so as to seal its eternal truth with His sacred blood as covenant that all shall be as promised for eternity.
Why?
Because He knows, you were worth it.

And so too was I. And so too was every sister and brother here. You are not alone when God loves you.

This is the foundation of all the Law, and as well, applies to the present Day of Grace. Love of God must be "first" before anything else can be claimed. The Holy Spirit does the agape loving for us by Grace through Faith in Christ and the Finished Work at Calvary where the victory was won (the Blood of Jesus). This is the narrow and only way. This is the only way we prosper.

What does it takes to love God?
You must receive His love first to be able to love Him:

"19 We love because he first loved us." - 1 John 4:19

That's how we can tell who has received God's love and who has not, by if they love.

And how can we really love God?
We love God by believing in Jesus and obeying His command to love one another:

"this is love for God: to keep his commands." - 1 John 5:3

"23 And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us." - 1 John 3:23

When it is written we are foreknown by God, does thins not refer to our salvation here in this age before we are united with Jesus? Otherwise there would be no need for our being created…...……...…...…...

good point, seeing that we were saved from before the beginning of the world. :giggle:
actually it is a denial of salvation point unless the individual has made a determinate and knowledgeable decision to believe in and follow Christ

Jesus died for a reason and it was not so silly people could make remarks that they mistakenly think represent intelligence

and no I am not going to respond to you again even though you went out of your way here to get my attention

you really have nothing of value to add that I have seen or would consider helpful

rather, you go about doing harm and devalue the gospel. I expect it will catch up with you one day

When it is written that you are foreknown by God, it means it was foreknown from the beginning those who would believe not .... In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began; Titus 1:2

"...he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, ..." Eph 1:4

For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him.
John 6:64

I expect it will catch up with you one day
The desire of the righteous is only good: but the expectation of the wicked is wrath.

Anyone who loves Jesus will obey His teaching

john 14:23 Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. 24 Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.

john 8:31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
33 They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?”

34 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. 35 Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed

Is it certain the reference to those who would believe not were fallen angels, servands of Lucifer. After all it seems we are here in this age to choose Jesus, while the others will not, rather they prefer the ruler of this age¡s realm.

If your point is that it seems contrary your belief that someone could be chosen in him from before the foundation of world because we are here in this age to choose him, then it shouldn't seem contrary to those in in this age will also end in this age.

My point is discussion, I simply cannot say with your certainty either way. Also, I most likely have more reason to believe what you say in that as a very young child I was given a waking vision which let me know we were created in spirit long before we were born, ergo we were known, but the jury (spiritual for me) is still out on any finality of believ. I do believe we are foreknown, but all, however it seems the need for coming willingly to our Savior, Jesus/Yeshua exists, and is a matter of placing our will with that only of our Maker, not even with ourselves. God bless...j
