I read "All the Light we cannot see " Man that book was so deep and wonderful... it reminded me in some ways of "the book thief".
"The silver box" was amazing and I CRIED so much.


I did read Hunger Games a long time ago and I enjoyed it :) naturally not my favorite but it was entertaining...

Oh my word. Such great pics! I will have to add Silver Box to my running list of to-reads. 😂
 
I read some novels and forgot that authors like to put as much s-e-x in them as they can get a way with and now feel horrible for reading them.

Now I am reading the Read Aloud Handbook by Jim Trelease.
I am not ever going to read those adult novels out loud. It is way too embarassing.
 
The Odyssey by Homer. On my daughter's syllabus in her English Lit. class. Not bad for a 2700 year old writing. LOL...

It takes a pretty great book to get me to read...but I absolutely loved Ready Player One.

Though, I am reading Prophet of Yonwood right now. I'm only reading it because I won it at a Bingo game when I was in mental health 2 and half years ago. I chose the book because I promised myself if the person who I had a falling out with that would eventually lead me into mental health ever got back in touch with me.... I would give her the book...maybe a pseudo-apology or peace offering or something? idk

If you dont mind darker and grittier, you might like Battle Royal. It influenced Hunger Games. In fact many say Hunger Games copied it. It is quite dark though.

I'm reading the first Bone Chillers. I found the cover art is as appealing as the books. I'm often inspired by it.2134445._UY475_SS475_.jpg

Actually hunger games was on the verge of being too dark for me already. But I was too curious not to finish it.

But thanks for the recommendation and for being open about it's nature

Yeah, you definitely wouldnt like it than. The comic book version (manga version) was even worse they added alot of things that wasn't in the novel very gory and dirty unlike the novel (the novel is far better) I've only seen a little of the movie but it was definitely a hard R. The novel was the best but still alot more adult than Hunger Games.
 
reading some books about nurses.

Good one was Empty Hands, one womans journey saving children orphaned by Aids in South Africa by Sister Abegail Ntleko

The other am reading right now is called The language of Kindness. A nurses story. By Christie Watson

I never considered nursing as a career, but I suppose having been a patient myself I see it from the other side. I think I can only really recall one kind nurse...in my experience nurses have a job to do and some can be bullies! But then thats in public healthcare not private.
Plunket nurses though, are worth weight in gold. I remember going to them as a child.

I was a vet nurse for one summer but the smell of medicine made me dizzy...I can handle blood but not too much...!
 
I read the Nicholas Sparks book Dear John. At first I didn't like it but it grew on me and I loved the ending. It was better than the movie. Very different endings.
Right now I'm reading the children's book Matilda by Roald Dahl and I love his writing style! I can't wait to finish it because I want to read some of his other books. James and the Giant Peach or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory will be fun to read. I didn't even know some of these were books as I had only seen the movies.
 
I'd finished all the books I took out of the library before it closed so I started scanning the book shelf. I ended up pulling out an anthology by Dashiell Hammett. He wrote "The Maltese Falcon" (Sam Spade) and "The Thin Man". I've started the "Red Harvest" and I was hooked by the first two sentences, "I first heard Personville called Poisonville by a red-haired mucher named Hickey Dewey in the Big Ship in Butte. He also called his shirt a shoit." Hammett wrote the "hard-boiled" detective novels. Normally I read Sci Fi, but the writing of Hammett or Ngaio Marsh, like Agatha Christie and Conan Doyle can be a great visit to a really rich style of writing.

I may be misinterpretting your post, but it sounds like you fell out with someone, and as a result of this fallout you ended up in mental health - working or volunteering I think? I think that's a really special idea, to pass on the book (once you're finished obviously) as a kind of gesture like you say. I personally would love that kind of gesture, and I'm sure she would too :) I don't know the circumstances around any of this obviously so use your own discernment, but I think it's a lovely idea!

I went and looked up the book and it gave me such a chill. Over 400,000 books destroyed and another 700,000 books damaged. Ouf! I adore books. They have been lifelong friends. Every church I've ever been part of, I've been a library lady. Such loss!

no I was a patient in mental health as a direct result of our falling out....I'm of the mindset she no longer wants to speak to me...but it was the most confusing thing I've ever gone through. I've already posted on the matter before...so if you want to read the story, they should be under my profile...I think the one with the story was "was i sinning, were they, so confused" or something like that. Needless to say I haven't given her the book for fear of her saying I'm being harassing or stalking or something. I feel like if we were ever to work things out, she would need to be the one to initiate, as I have already tried on my end.
