As Kansas City begins reopening, the local government is requiring every church who wishes to provide services to turn in when asked a detailed list of every person who enters their building for services, including name, phone number and address, so city officials can use it for surveillance and tracking purposes. Failure to comply can result in up to 6 month in jail and the Church being completely shut down. ​

Posthuman, your thread title is somewhat misleading since NO ONE is required to register with the government. The order requires churches to record a list of attendees.

The only way that information ends up in government hands is if someone who attended an event tests positive for Covid-19. At that point the church would be required to hand over a list of others who attended that specific event so the health dept can track them down and test them.

it's not the fact of what's happening now -- and it's not targeted persecution of the church; these rules in Kansas City apply to all businesses. it isn't that these things aren't being done with well meaning, to try to save lives, to make it possible to trace back infected people's movements in order to isolate cells of infected & possibly infected people.

it's a little bit that the church has been grouped with 'non-essential businesses' in that place ((church non-essential?? church a business??)) -- and it's mostly what the things being done, being put in place, and being accepted, could be used for later. it's a stage being set with tools and props that could later be used to much more nefarious ends.

a friend shared the OP article with me, and his attitude was that this is an alarming invasion of privacy and suspiciously personal collection of data.

but most Americans have a phone in their pocket that's already tracking all their movements. google knows where you are and where you've been and when -- they're tailoring ads for you based on that. have been for some time.

the first thing i thought was, wait, are we supposed to think of attending church as an anonymous activity? is that what we should want? because if the article is alarmist, that's part of what they want us to be alarmed about -- oh noes, the govt is now aware that i went to church and could put me on a list as 'potentially Christian'
am i supposed to be upset about that or glad?

I couldn't tell you how many news articles (both left and right wing) I read in a week where the facts laid out in the article do not support the assertion made in the title. I have no doubt that it's intentional because the editorial board knows that a given percentage of persons will read the headline, formulate an opinion, and move on without actually reading the article.

news always wants to put a spin on it and make a big deal about nothing. Headlines often dont even relate to the article its just to grab peoples attention. If they had a catchy phrase or used alliteration it would be better than fear mongering though. I have yet to see a headline WERE DOOMED though.

we have two types of people these days, the so called awoken, who could see straight away something wasn't right here when this so called pandemic started, and there are those who cant see the trees for the woods. They just blindly believe what satan and his followers are telling them, obeying and believing everything they are told by the media and so called government experts. What I see going on is that the covid crisis is perceived to be perpetrated by Christians defying stay-at-home orders and worshipping together. It happened in South Korea. So if there is a perceived spread in the area, people want to track the churches so they have more ammo to "prove" the churches are the hotspots. Keeping these rolls and 100% cooperating with that only subjects the Church to unfair, increased scrutiny by people who are bound and determined to pin it on us--followed by the inevitable crackdown on worship, with the accompanying "data" to support that. Do you see people at the Florida beaches being given timecards and they have to punch-in/punch-out?

Soon every piece of consumer electronics, coffee machine or microwave or toaster, is going to have a 5G chip.

It amazes me how some Politicians have used this crisis to completely destroy the rights granted to the Church under the 1st Amendment............and how they continue to reveal their hypocrisy on Separation of Church and State.............

They DON'T WANT US messing with them and their Political stuff, but THEY want to control when, how and where we worship God.

The catchier the title the more that watch, the more that watch raises the ratings, the higher the ratings the more money they can charge for ads. It always goes back to money.
