A question I wish to ask of all who would answer... What is the greatest commandment?
Before Jesus ascended, the greatest commandment was to love God with all your heart and mind and strength.

Now that He is in heaven with His Father, there are only two commandments, to love one another even as Jesus has loved us, and to believe in Him whom God has sent.

I pray i dont mature so far as to believe i no longer need the blessings and wisdom contained in Gods word. Truly amazing advice you give. Its like saying to a child you need to grow past sucking on a pacifiar, get rid of the pacifiar and grow up. The pride and arogance boggles the mind. You keep saying folks need to get past the bible and believe in Whom the word was written about..Thats not even an issue. Of course i believe in the God of the bible and all thats been revealed about Him throughout scipture. You should be specific about whom your talking about because this broad sweep you make as if you have covered everyone out there is ridiculous. Just who are you talking about? i dont see anyone disputing the spiritual nature of our relationship with God but how you can tell people to go beyond the scriptures and into this inner feelings based faith is completley wrong. We walk by faith and faith comes by hearing the word of God. I just dont see this problem you are trumpeting about on this thread. The running theme i see in your posts is to belittle the scriptures and elivate yourself as being someone whose "matured: past the simplicity of "mere" bible study.I hear God everytime i read and listen to His word the scriptures. I dont need an audible message from God in order to believe. I believe. Why do some folks think that an audible message from God is the best way to hear from God. its not there is nothing more powerful than His word. the Word of God is able to cut deep down inside like nothing ive ever known. I reject this feelings sign based faith..i dont need signs and wonders to believe. I believe His word.. So no thanks..any teacher i listen to must expect that their teachings will be examined in light of the scriptures and if they are in conflict i reject that teacher. I dont find anywhere in scripture where it tells me to move beyond listening to reading His word containe din scripture..In fact the opposite is true i find that we are exhorted to study more and more and listen and believe God whose words and revelation are contained therein. How can a person rightly divide the word of truth without ever reading it? We know the Masters voice because we have heard Him in His word.when something comes around we are reminded of those words through the Holy Spirit and this confirms with our spirit. I hope i never grow up past Gods grace beyond His blessing the Bible.

I am tempted to say one thing, but rather I will say this. In the very same scriptures we are discussing, we find the command to be filled with ............ O, the Holy Spirit.

And who better to direct us to the command to be filled with the Holy Spirit than a "prophet" who speaks directly to Jesus Christ Himself ? The rest of us lost souls have only our faith in Christ's sacrifice on the cross and God's Divinely Inspired Word to lean on.

I fail to see how this exhortation is evil. If it is to you, then I am sorry, but I will not cease from exhorting others to be filled with God.

Try this exhortation :

Ephesians 2:8-9 (King James Version)

8For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9Not of works, lest any man should boast.

I think a person who has faith based on the Bible has a stronger faith than one who has to have signs and the audible voice of God to make them believe. If you think upon that, perhaps you will find more compassion.

sometimes things happen in life that God reveals Himself to these lost sheep not because they are better or stronger then those who believe on faith of His spoken word alone, but because through His Love and Grace He wishes them to come back home.

Read again the prodigal son and do not despair that you are the obedient son who stayed at home and did the will of the Father.

I'm trying to figure out the words to say without having my words twisted to mean something I do not intend them to in the first place.

the prodigal son was a sinner and wastrel, but the obedient son a good steward, but remember that God loved them both.

let us go to God in prayer and fellowship and through our love show the world that we are HIS.

Heb 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Everything in the Bible,is everything that God wants us to know,so it is complete to us for all God wants us to know, and if God wanted us to know anything else He would of told us.

It tells us complete and true morality.

It tells us the whole history of mankind.

It tells us how to be saved and have a relationship with God.

It tells us of dwelling eternally with God.

What else is there for God to tell us.

The truth is the Bible is the complete revelation of God,that God wants us to know.

What is being said is to obey the bible, and the Spirit, and enter into a living and growing relationship with God. For that is the only way we can know Him. He cannot be written into any book.

And so you think that this word, which is alive and quick and powerful is the book you carry around in your hands? Pretty soon, we will see it being treated in the same way as the ark of the covenant.

Read what Jesus said about swearing by the temple and swearing by the gold of the temple, and ask for wisdom.

What a beautiful verse of scripture that we have been given that gives us the mind of Christ that goes deep into the innermost resources of our being, as a discerner of the thoughts and intents of our heart. This is why we esteem the word of God above all that is necessary in our life. David knew the beauty of the Word and in Psalm 119 we see just how the word of God, in all of its forms, brought praise and worship to David's heart and made Him a man after God's own heart.

Amen red quite right.

VW your contempt for the written word of God certainly comes through with every post you make. You will be hard pressed to convince bornagain believers that they should shut up their bibles, if anything you confirm its diligent study in todays world. The written word of God and the good news of Jesus contained therein has and continues to transform lives. It is living and active and the Holy Spirit the Comforter is here with us to remind us of its great wisdom and blessing...

John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Yes.. what Jesus said to us in the scriptures will be conveyed to us by the Holy Spirit...brought to our minds... renewing refreshing the believer..Gods word is worthy..

Uncle fester you have been spot on and appreciate seeing posts like yours and some others who see how great a blessing we have in the scriptures.

“The Bible is the truest utterance that ever came by alphabetic letters from the soul of man, through which, as through a window divinely opened, all men can look into the stillness of eternity, and discern in glimpses their far-distant, long-forgotten home.”

Because you believe that my words are show contempt for the bible is your own perception, and nothing could be further from the truth that is in my heart.

If this is all that you can get from my writings, then you have not learned to read beyond your prejudices. That is very sad.

Hebrews Chapter 4 Verses 11 through 13.

Second Timothy Chapter 3 Verses 10 through 17.

Second Timothy Chapter 4 Verses 1 through 5.

In an effort to draw people away from Jesus Christ, cult's try to discredit, twist, manipulate, distort, and water down the Scriptures.

Be ever vigilant of the deceitful tactics employed by the enemies of the Cross.

Whenever we take scripture out of context to prove our point, we err. The out of context passage you used from the letter to the Hebrews, is actually a very small part of a passage which starts with chapter 4 verse 1 and continues through verse 14. It is commonly understood that a paragraph contains a single thought, and that when the thought is complete, a new paragraph is started. The thought of this passage is that God spoke to the children of Israel, but they refused to hear His voice by hardening their hearts. Therefore, God would not let them enter His rest. There is no reason to equate the subject of this passage with the bible, and it is clear if read in context that the writer is talking about the voice of God.

Those who elevate the bible above the voice of God are the enemies of the cross. His sheep hear His voice, unless they are not of His sheep.

Those who claim the bible is NOT the voice of God has taken God and his word and made a mockery of them.

Where is is said that scripture is the voice of God?

Show me the passage.

Scripture is the word of God. It is written. The voice of God is now, spoken in our hearts. If it comes through scripture, or through a bird or an angel or even a child, it is still His voice, in our hearts by His Spirit.
Oh well, go as you see fit.

You are much closer to Red's theology than you realize.
Well if you do not think that the inspired word of God is Gods word. then I do not want to be anywhere near your theology. for it is not from God.

You have to be joking? the Scriptures are His revealed word. The voice of God is clearly heard throughout the Bible.
and the problem is not in my perception but in your own words which i whole heartedly disagree with. Your the one who keeps calling the Holy Bible "just a book" ..your the one who attempts to belittle its importance..sorry nothing wrong with my perceptions you have been clear about your feelings towards the written word of God.Maybe because it would mean you would have to test your own beliefs in its light. Its easier for you to fool yourself into thinking your hearing Gods voice when its your own voice within your head and not based upon anything God has revealed in His word.Your the one with the prejudice against the written word of God..the problem is yours sir...
