Does Deuteronomy 18:20 apply today, that even if someone is right 90% of the time and fails once its all over? (not the put to death part, obviously)

Deuteronomy 18:20 But a prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods, is to be put to death.”

Can you count on two hands the false prophecies of Hal Lindsay and other Dispensationalists since the 1960s?

There are a bunch, as I said.

But I want to ask how does this work in the New Covenant? If there was a prophet in Corinth who had gotten almost all right but messed up on a few things, did they discount everything he said right?

Or is there a difference between words of knowledge and prophecy? I believe we get the two mixed up often times.

The first Hal Lindsay book I read was The Late Great Planet Earth. Read a few after that and found the books to be insightful. That was many years ago. Not sure if it was his prophecies that were false or that his predications were inaccurate. Entertaining reading though. He could very well be a false prophet at worse or misinformed at best.

Not exactly sure what your point is but I would not fly on an airline whose planes crash 10% of the time. Yeah, it would most definitely be over.

Well the penalty for claiming to be a prophet of God without Gods anointing is very severe. I do not recommend exercising the penalty in todays society for obvious reasons. I do not support the belief that we have prophets today. I leave it to God to take care of the prophets of today.

Love you Dave :) can you show me anywhere Hal Lindsay says hes a prophet. Hal has even talk about the "prophet" :) As in there are no more after Christ came.

Well no prophet today can say "when did the spirit leave me to you?" lol. For we all have the same spirit. Some believe God still speaks to the prophet 1st. I still wonder .. about that. I don't like how we just toss out that word PROPHET and apply it to those we disagree with. Then.. these are well know men and women of God. NO does not make them right lol. But when ask "who are you?" and its from a unknown person. Why is the unknown have more weight in what they say? :) wait.. I AM UNKNOWN haha.. I don't Hal is doing good.. we need to pray for him. Its what I would want for me

Short answer No. Two covenants:

One covenant (Old) that exposes, condemns & judges ALL sin

Deut 28:15-68 Find ALL the CURSES imposed for breaking old covenant laws.

Another covenant (New) that pardons/forgives ALL sin.

Rom 5:20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:
(NOTE: Where OT law breaking sin is found in abundance, NT grace can be found in SUPER abundance. Rom 5:1-2 teaches how we access God's super abundant grace)

Gal 3:10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.
(NOTE: Anyone today rejecting/ignoring Christ's sin payment & resurrection. Preaching/imposing old covenant laws, will be judged by them)

2 Corinthians 3:7 the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away:
(NOTE: The Ex old covenant law, written on stone, ministered death & judgment. And was always intended to be replaced by a better (spiritual) life giving covenant)

Heb 10:16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them
(NOTE: The Lord says, I will write this new (spiritual) life giving covenant in their hearts & minds)

Matt 27:
50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, he died;
51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;
(NOTE: Temple veil because of sin, separated man from God, is RIPPED in 1/2. Old covenant ENDS right here)

Gal 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
(NOTE: They put a kingly like crown of thorns on Jesus head. He became a CURSE, in doing so, REDEEMED us from, Deut old covenant law curses)

Christ our High Priest (Ps 110:4, Heb 4:14, 5:6, 6:20, 7:15, 26, 26) of a New Better Covenant, written in sinless blood:
Heb 8
6 But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.
(NOTE: Christ obtained a more excellent ministry, he is the mediator of a better covenant, established on better promises)

7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second.
(NOTE: If the old Deut law covenant was without fault. No new covenant would have been needed)

10 (B) The LORD said; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts:
(NOTE: The LORD promised to write His Spiritual law on the believers heart)

13 In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.
(NOTE: The promised New Better Covenant began at Pentecost. When Christ baptized believers with His salvation sealing indwelling Holy Spirit)

It applies today in a Spiritual sense.

As we see many rake in the millions, own several luxuries like private jets, homes, vacation in the best spots, they aren't gaining anything towards their Heavenly Reward. And since many of these are misleading their followers, even to the point of possibly losing their salvation, God holds the Shepherds more accountable than the sheep. Some after a while believe they are a form of God. They create a self image they worship more than the Creator. They become trapped by their own lusts and greed.

Now, I am not saying if somehow along the line they get a real JESUS moment that they cannot repent and change. But the biggest lie to overcome in life is the one you tell yourself. I think this is where they pay. They die in this same frame of mind. And we read in Revelations at the Great White Throne Judgement the example: I CAST OUT DEMONS IN YOUR NAME, I DID THIS IN YOUR NAME. With Jesus replying, I never knew YOU!

Don't you remember preachers saying Christ would return in one generation (40 years) after 1948? And when that didn't happen, the moved it up another 40 years and so on many times over. https://www.livescience.com/10385-failed-predictions-stop-apocalypse-forecasters.html

Both OT and NT Prophets were the same.

Thanks for the good reply, I agree with all of this. I would like to ask you and everyone else here as well, WHY was there "fault" in the first covenant? I believe its because it was based upon man having to perform. What is your answer?

Or rather whose knowledge as prophecy .The wisdom of men as false prophecy or of true God's wisdom.

The “fault” is that today mankind think we had to keep the covenant for salvation, not because of obedience.

My question is why do we think there was a “fault” with the Torah if people like king David said they love Torah. Is the “fault” not with our perception of the Old Covenant?

In obedience we find rest when yoked with Christ. The obedient one according to the good pleasure of His power and will.

King David I would suggest loved the Torah as a "perfect working law ". Not according to the letter death . But the law of faith working with the letter to create one perfect law. Life out of death. The law that works from the inside .

You could say the two witnesses of God working as one. The just and justifier. The law Moses death, and prophets. The witnesses to the power of the law of the "Father and Son" . . . the gospel of peace.

Perfectly sealed from end to end as our reasoning source . Apart from each other "death".

His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof. The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.
The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.
The fear of the
Lord is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward. Psalms 19:6-11

Man/Israel's inability to keep their end, which they ALL agreeded to Ex 19:5 & ""8"" is part & parcel to the overall fault. Heb 8:8 say's as much.

Heb 8:1 shines light as to why, the new covenant is Better. Heb 8:6 make's it even more clear.

Old covenant was conditional on man performance/works, man's mediation & sacrifices that could only cover sin.

New BETTER covenant is based on Christ's performance/works, mediation & sacrifice that removers sin, Once & Forever! My Opinion Only.

I think now it refers to spiritual death nowadays, remember Eli, and his sons.
