"It is finished"


Gen 2

2 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.

2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
 
Oh just figured I'll add this to the thread to perhaps add a bit more discussion

There is another "finished" in revelation 10:7

This refers to the Mystery of God and clearly follows another mystery that was sealed within the book that John "was about to write".

I don't want to be hasty about how I interact with this verse, merely that the placement in context to the two witness beginning their testimony shortly thereafter I think & believe is quite important.

The wrath of the Lord is on the horizon and it is mysterious to me...reconciling it I don't believe is fully possible at this time. Their testimony is direct and will leave nothing out and it is not yet time for it as there are some things that haven't been revealed as yet.

When someone has lost something of value, understanding the significance of that loss requires the heart. It is not merely information. For example, if a man tells you he lost his wife, you know from being a person with deep relationships with others what that means for him.

But if I try to communicate what the Son of God lost, it’s a matter in which we have no direct experience in so it’s not that easy.

How much thought have you given to the relationship between the Father and the Son before the incarnation? Can you see that this changed on the night of his birth?

I don’t see why Jesus cannot have expressed that His suffering was finished (for which he was glad) and that means we are left wanting. What is the connection? Every word hurt him horribly as evidenced by so few being spoken.

what did he die for? What was the purpose

If it was just to suffer.

No one dies just to suffer. That makes no sense. But in any endeavor, there are different parts to be played. That one part is finished and declared to be so doesn’t mean that is all there was.

If a woman is suffering through childbirth or a man has to suffer through having a broken bone set with no pain killer, someone comforting them might say at the right point, “it’s finished.” That doesn’t mean there’s no baby or the bone is not going to heal. It just means their suffering great pain is finished.

Yes it makes no sense

So again, What was finished. Why did Jesus come? What purpose did the suffering servant "hang on a tree" to fulfill the law?
 
Sometimes we are so caught up in how we personally benefitted from Jesus’ sacrifice we forget to think about his sufferings.

Jesus suffering was finished. It seems so obvious to me I have a hard time understanding why others do not see that the suffering of Christ was finished at that point and he gave up his spirit. He was done suffering.

If this is ALL that was finished.

we are all under law.

Which means we are all doomed.

Because we will all suffer the curse of death (spiritual)

Why do you say this? Why is Jesus- suffering being over and him saying so mean we are all under the law? What is the connection between him being glad it was over and us being under the law?

Because it is true. The focus is continually what Jesus did for us. How many ask what it meant to Jesus, what it cost Him? Even communion has been changed to thinking about what Jesus did for me and not thinking remembering Jesus.

lol.. Well I think salvation is probably the most important things we will ever recieve. And it is based on what happened on the cross.

Behold the lamb of God, who takes the sin of the world

What did John mean when he said this?

Did Jesus fulfill the law in our place. Or are we still under law?

Those are the only two options..
