Unfortunately most people will never gain the understanding of the faith that they profess. It’s not that most people can’t fathom the concepts conveyed to us in the Bible they are just too lazy to learn. A concert pianist isn’t born with extraordinary ability. Perhaps they are born with some tools, but it is diligently applying those tools that gains them supremacy. It’s choosing to be excellent instead of average. Excuses are the losers way of allowing themselves to be ok with being losers. Now what’s my point? I better be quick because lazy people might not make it this far. Out of the 1/3 of Christians who claim to read their Bible regularly, how many study it? Who reading this even know what Word of God means, or why Christ is the Word? Many people think the Bible is the Word of God. (They are probably going to give this post an “x” because I included that) Regardless, there is huge insight into comprehending what our forefathers we’re trying to convey to us from centuries ago through the Bible. For the effort it took for them to write, duplicate, conceal, and die for what is written, we should honour them properly by at least trying to understand what it says. Too many Christians have filled their minds with opinions of others who think they should teach it. Do your own research, quit being lazy. Too many people just quote scripture out of context and it makes them look less intelligent then they are. This forum is a disgrace to our Lord. The Body should be moving in unity, with one mind, not the feet tripping eachother while the hands cover the mouth and ears. Not all are teachers, and when some try to be it creates chaos. Just saying...

Christ is the "Living Word" of God, yes. The Bible is the "Written Word" of God. As long as people understand this, they should be ok......

Too many Christians have filled their minds with opinions of others who think they should teach it.

In this, I agree that too many Believers rely on the teachings of their church/Denomination rather than seek understanding of Scripture through the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit....

Do your own research, quit being lazy. Too many people just quote scripture out of context and it makes them look less intelligent then they are.

Yes, people should learn to study Scripture for themselves and not rely on others to do their studying for them....

This forum is a disgrace to our Lord. The Body should be moving in unity, with one mind, not the feet tripping eachother while the hands cover the mouth and ears. Not all are teachers, and when some try to be it creates chaos. Just saying...

Here I disagree. Christian Chat is not a disgrace to God, Christ, or the Faith. It is true the Body should be "of one mind," and, it is important to understand what "one mind" means/entails. EVEN the Disciples disagreed on points of Scripture, and had their squabbles. I don't think folks would consider them a disgrace to God.......

There are those who come here pretending to be Teachers, Sages of Scriptures and such, but they are usually easily identified, and mostly ignored. Trolls will always be a part of ANY Public Forum, and on Christian based Forums, they seem to multiply like cockroaches.......... That does not reflect poorly on the Forum, rather, it reveals that there MUST be SOME good going on for the Trolls to spend the time to try and disrupt it.

I do agree that there is some unChristian attitudes displayed on the BDF from time to time, and that should not be. However, we are ALL human and NOT perfect, and we will make mistakes, and some give in to the base emotions of a fallen creature......

Anyway, had you left off that last paragraph, it woulda been ok with me......

The post I made was following a few threads i participated in in the Bible Discussion Forum. It baffled me how repeatedly some posts were completely off the mark. Among some of the posts one person in particular professed how the Bible saves us and it is the Word of God. I explained that Jesus is the Logos and that’s why it’s capitalized. The word “word” comes from logos but is hardly defined the same. What really bothered me was how many people were agreeing with his comments. Some were randomly throwing out verses out of context. Others were attacking and it was mess. Anyways it’s funny as I read my post again now that my emotions have subsided. I agree as you pointed out some people make the BDF very heated and irritating at times but the whole site is a very great place to find fellowship and learn from others.

huh well are you talking about the Prophets being 'our forefathers' and the Apostles cos its not clear.
Paul said the foundation of our faith is based on the Prophets and the Apostles, with Christ being the cornerstone. see Ephesians 2:20

I hope you dont think its anyone else. Cos that means you are basing your faith on shifting sand.

in the beginning was the Word....well I guess people get confused and dont read further on to find out how this Word was made flesh.

So yea I guess you need to be patient with many people who are just starting out reading the Bible. Its a big book. If someone had read all 66 books I would be giving them heaps of pizzas cos at my school if you read 7 that means a pizza reward. lol Maybe that might motivate some reluctant readers, although they may just read the very shortest books first. But then it is funny how the major and minor prophets are arranged in the Bible by the size of their prophecies.

Forefathers I meant by those who had any contributions to the Bible being written, and preserved, often costing them their lives. Forefathers, those of faith who preceded us not actual blood related.

That was exactly my point. Many haven’t even read much less diligently studied the Bible. I think Bible discussion is what hones us, iron sharpening iron, I have patience with people disagreeing with me. Many times I’ve seen their proofs and it increases knowledge and understanding. However I find it frustrating when people who have no idea what they are talking about and debate with some of the well studied members. It takes time to formulate ideas and present them. There was one member who admitted he didn’t even read other’s posts if they were more than a few lines. His erroneous babble extended several pages just disagreeing. He would post some random scripture as retort. Of course everyone there was trying to show him his mistakes but he wouldn’t read them. The sad part was other members just read his one line and agree with him encouraging him to waste more of others valuable time. I don’t mind if people don’t know, but at least if you don’t know, don’t pretend you (not you) do. The point of Word (Logos) and word is huge. Most people don’t care....they just want to eat the pizza.

See Acts 13:41 and compare with the quoted scripture at Habakkuk 1:5.

Context does not apply.

If any portion of scripture supports truth context is irrelevant.

I will not issue a RED-X. I'll just respond.

I know the Bible is the word of God.

There is no insight that can be gleaned from the "forefathers" since the scriptures came from God through them. God shall guide you with his counsel (Psalm 73:24).

If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.
1 Corinthians 13:2 NASB

This needs to sink in. We are NOTHING if we don't have love. You can be doctrinally complete, study the Word all you want and be intellectually sound in regards to the things of the Bible.
I'm astounded how quickly love is cast off around here when it is mentioned. I've even seen people consider it fluffy in the past on here.
I don't ask God to make me doctrinally complete, I have never said that prayer but I have many times asked that He would teach me love, if He teaches me anything, that it would know what love is and to walk in it. Everything else can fall away, it can be done with, it is my hearts cry that I understand love above all else.
I couldn't care about pretism, millenniumism, Calvinism, welsyism, whatever ist and ism people wish to dabble in, let them dabble in it, it is not for me.
The revelation that Paul penned couldn't be any clearer.

Well since that is what the Bible calls itself, what's your beef?

And take the helmet of salvation, and the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God (Eph 6:17)

What do you think the Sword of the Spirit is? And since this one verse refutes your contention, then you will need to revise your entire OP, and post it as a revision.

See how word in Ephesians isn’t capitalized and it means a written word. Jesus is the Word (Logos) capitalized. It means much more that a written word. That’s the difference. The Bible is the word, not the Word.

Does it? Show me where I have been obviously wrong and I have not accepted humbly my error. Show me where I have lashed out in frustration because people don’t agree. Any member who has been in the BDF knows exactly what I stated.

Mozart was composing by the age of four. By the age of twelve had composed numerous symphonies.

Paul, as a called Apostle, was inspired and called to write and divinely interpret Scripture. Using him as an example in that regard would not apply to the general rule of taking verses in context.

Ok man, like I am all for extra info, but this is too much for me to chew on at present.

I can see that there's a difference between the written word and the Word. Did you disagree with @p_rehbein s summation to your original post regarding it?

It was revealed to me via reading "the Word of the Lord" in the Old Testament reading the prophets as well as another section that definitely implies personhood. I didn't need strongs or a lexicon to show it to me, but it did confirm things when people came up against what I had been given in my personal life.

But then how are his words not himself in some fashion? That's the part I don't get, they are an extension or a testament of himself...not "Him" but "him"?

This is where I get confused, and no, I don't want to be "right" for the sake of it. I want to know THE Word and he gave me his word to know him better. One of my challenges is to not go beyond what is written at present...so I try not to get too esoteric about it, but it is possible that the book study of the word may bring some of what I have been shown back down to a practical reality.

What you are talking about is a deep concept and I don't think the teachers out there should just "give up the mic" necessarily just because they don't understand that fully. I've been consistently amazed how about the time I start wondering why something isn't being taught it starts to be taught...at least by the people that I find and sort of "review".

It is reasonable to presume that each person will have a different understanding of the personhood of the Son...as I am confident that there is more to know than what could possibly be contained in these limited vessels and that some things won't fully be realized until the Lord's timing is perfectly played out.

I do feel you on the teachers thing as far as searching it yourself. I don't claim any credit for that on my own end, I've had lots of teachers, but the Lord is my teacher so I defer to him and see if what they say lines up...some of it falls by the wayside and some doesn't. Some encourages what I had already found and some encourages me to seek further...while some I just reject and ignore as it seems to be error. I think I have enough of my own "mystical error" to engage too deeply another's.

If everyone had to wait until they had arrived in order to speak? Maybe they should wait on the Lord and only speak when he directs them to, but maybe it is a process toward that point. I'm uncertain, I have not said anything publicly for long blocks of time being as insular as I can be, but that feels beyond frustrating and sometimes selfish.

I will second that I agreed with your post until the last little bit...I see that you backtracked a tad which is cool, because there are times I too am disconcerted by BDF with the vitriol that seems present over seemingly minor things.

Love is patient my friend (as I do not think we are enemies).

Thank you for providing a perfect example of how people extract one sentence from a paragraph and use a major exception to the rule to refute it. But yes great point, some people here at CC may be prophets and have a supernatural gift of just understanding the scriptures without having to study them like everyone else. However, I think the majority of us should take the time to learn them.

I’m glad we aren’t enemies. I think everyone has equal right to speak in the BDF. Here’s an analogy. There’s adults having a conversation. Then some child jumps into the conversation and makes a comment and tells the adult he’s wrong. So other adults begin trying to teach the child but he won’t listen. Then he covers his ears and starts talking louder. Then other kids encourage him and tell him he’s right. What started out as some adults enjoying some conversation turns into a shouting match. I wrote the post after one day I had enough of one dude in particular. I put him on ignore because I think he’s just trying to start fights for attention.
