Jesus said," what ever you do to the least of my brothers, that you do unto me."

I have often considered how this applies to what one does, says, how one treats another.
Often I hear some one say, saddly Ive said this in the past myself.
That the beggers I see, I just want to be sure they wont abuse any thing I give them, they might use it for drugs or booze, you know.
Saddly, we all do judge, we also often see reasons why we should or shouldnt help, be patient, care, show compassion, give of our self, be kind, simply give encouragement,...
well the list can keep going.
I used to use the scripture about not thowing ones pearls before swine to justify my actions.
Untill I heard some one say this several years ago.
" Your love for Jesus is measured by the one you love the least."
This hit hard, as it brought home the words of Jesus to me about the least .
I have shared this before, but wanted to share again, partly so I would not forget.
But also, because we need to keep this in mind in how we treat every person that we see or know.
To often one will want to justify themself.
But, when one reads all the scripture that is with these words, one does not see anything about justfication, or excuses.
Only Jesus speaking to how one treats the least, all, this is how you treat Jesus.
Powerful words, well said.
Ones love for Jesus, is measured by who one loves the least.

May all of us, learn the great love of Jesus, and give this love to Him, through the least! :)

God bless.

regarding casting your pearls to the swine: this means that you dont give your knowledge to the wicked and the bad,for they will not apreciate it ,and in turn they will abuse you.

Well, i think this is a good post, I used to begrudge giving to a beggar on the street, mainly for the reasons you have given, but then, we all come to a point and realise, he;s begging for a reason, he has nothing and I have the means to possibly give the guy/girl a meal for the day.

I've been looking at love latley alot in scripture. and ofcourse we realise we can only love because of God's love, I mean true sacrificial love.

When see God's Holiness here we see love, when we see the great cost of Christ our God and saviour on the cross, here we see love.

Something else concerning love that i have really been looking at is the love for God;s holy righteousness and should we tolerate, people calling themselves christians and plainly not. is it love to tolerate it or is it love to rebuke someone claiming to be a christian yet plainly a false teacher? sorry for going slightly of track, but it is an important aspect of love. do we love the false teacher enough to show them their error and try and bring them to repentence, and do we love are brothers and sisters enough to try and protect them from false teaching.

or do we 'tolerate false teachers claiming to be christians because of our human understanding of love??

anyhow, I know that was a bit of course from your original meaning, but it is aspects of love I have been studying in scripture. mainly due to the post modern view that its all 'relative' so therefore we love and tolerate. which clearly is not scriptural, anyhow Im rambling on.

Great post

The real question here is, does one treat others, as they would treat Jesus?
Its not about wether one deserves or not, or in what way.
Jesus said," the least of my brothers, this you do unto me!"
Its just Jesus made a point of saying this, so that the apostles understood what they could do for Jesus.
The message seems simple, in serving others, yes the least, we serve Jesus.

God bless.

It sounds like the idea of grace, because Jesus died and saved us even though we didn't deserve it so who are we to deny what little we can do to help others.

How much is a dollar worth compared to a soul saved from Hell?

May I speak a bit boldly here? (@ least boldly for me)

~People want to help at long as it feels good to them.
~People want to help in the way THEY think is helpful. It seems to be more about them than the person truly having the need.
~Phil posted above that the person is begging for a reason. I really believe with all that I am that the beggers true need is not money etc...it is needing someone to believe in them. Someone to see beyond their current circumstances and help cultivate hope in them.

~Call me naive....but I believe most of these people want to earn their own way. They do not want hand outs. They want a sense of pride that only comes from doing honest work and not oweing anyone.

These things do not come overnight.....ussually a person who has gone through traumatic circumstances for any legnth of time will probably have some depression going too.

They have probbly had had many people give up on them over time because it became *too much work*. It no longer *felt*good.

What a shame. Granted, there is a need for folks to have money to be able to eat, or have shelter for the night etc. But how much are you truly willing to invest to make a REAL difference??? Are you willing to get your hands dirty? Are you willing to feel a bit exhausted at the end of the day (emotionally and physically) for the greater good of the life of somoene else???

There are band-aid fixes and then there are long term to permanant things that can be done to make a real difference.

The song that came immedietly to mind when reading this thread was Matthew West, My own Little World. Great song. Here is the link so you can listen if you wish.

YouTube - Matthew West - My Own Little World (Slideshow With Lyrics)

Anyway...this is one of those topics that gets me going. Truly helping somoeone in a way that is helpful to them. Not in a way that makes you feel good for the day or week. Its not about you. Its about being Christ to those who are hurting.

Blessings

Right after writing this, I went to Facebook and at the top of my newsfeed the Klove Morning show had posted something that reallyy conveys what I was trying to say. I am going to copy it here because it is perfect for this thread.

In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross! Phil 2:5-11

Amen grace!
The heart of Jesus .
This has been set before all of us to seek.
If one does all, with a heart serving Jesus, the enemy cannot defeat them.
Simply because, if one does not keep anything for ones self, not even their life.
There is nothing that evil can steal.

In Jesus, God bless.

God is love. If we want to be like God, who is our Father, then we will walk in love.

But how do we do that? I mean, I can't just turn on love for someone who has mistreated me, or spoken evil of me, can I?

The love of God is not natural to us, it must come by His working in us. Paul wrote that the fruit of the Spirit is love. But even in this, we need something else to know when we are not walking in His love, some way of having our actions judged in the truth of love. Much of this conviction, this judgment, comes from the Holy Spirit, but not all. As we draw near to God, in the Spirit, we see ourselves in His light, in His glory, and we see clearly where we have fallen into hate, anger, malice, envy, strife, jealously. But not unless we are drawing near to Him can we see clearly. For everyone who loves the light comes to the light that their deeds might be manifested as having been wrought in God.

In Christ,

We should also realize that we will be mistreated, not just by the world, but by those who should love us. There is no way that we can just blow these things off, and act like they never happened. That is not walking in the truth. We must find in our hearts, the new hearts that we have in Christ, and find forgiveness and love so that we can be at peace with our God. For if we hold anything, anything at all, against a brother or sister, we cannot come to God with clean hands and a clear conscience. These things defile our hearts, and keep us out of His presence.

True forgiveness of others is one of the greatest manifestations of God's love in us.

A family man, old enough to be my father with a family of (6) children to feed and care for, one evening had a knock on his door during supper. When he got up to answer the door he saw his neighbor who was drunk and wanted a place to stay for the night because His wife didn't want him in the house in that condition. He agreed and let him stay on the sofa on the back porch. The next morning he was given breakfast and nothing was said about what happened and the neighbor went home to his wife.

This man did not forgot what was done for him and the next day went to thank the family. He was received into their home and was ministered the love of God and right there this man believed upon the Lord Jesus Christ and was gloriously saved. He was invited and started to attend the same church with his wife who later was saved by God's grace as well. He was called and studied to be a pastor and is serving God in that capacity today with his wife and family and has never touched another drop of alcohol.

Grace and mercy to others always applies and always bears fruit unto eternal life through Jesus Christ. We have a ministry of mercy and reconciliation toward sinners in the same manner that God had toward us when we were sinners. There is not a sinner living today that does not have a great need for God's grace and mercy to be forgiven and cleansed of all sin through Christ and His shed blood. This is how God has applied His mercy and grace to us through the cross.

if you ever had to ask someone for a handout you know how hard it can be. anytime anyone ask you for something, if its within your power to do so, do it. you will never know if that poor dirty homeless person is going to take your money and drink it away or get something to eat. for all you know it could be an angel looking to see who is generous and who isnt. i can remember 3 times in my life telling someone no, two of those times i look back and wonder, who was it that was asking me for help. God and the angels are at work in the world, keeping us on our toes. be mindfull, but be generous.
if you dont want to give them money, take em to mcdonalds and get em some food.

In Christ,
VW, the stranger ussually cannot hurt us as baddly as those we know.
The stranger ussually harms the flesh.
It is those that are closest that can bring the deepest injuries.
I learned this a few years ago, when some, I never thought would bring inury did.
I cannot begin to speak to the deepest pain and heartbreak I never thought possible.
But the great love of Jesus does and will bring healing and His heart in this.
I could not find the forgivenss in my heart, but Jesus brought His.
I praise and thank Him for this, also thanking Jesus for the courage to continue.
This is the good news, simply in Jesus, we are given this perfect love, when we are willing to ask and recieve it.
Everything we need is given by Jesus, when we give everything to Jesus!

God bless.

We are to help family in Jesus, this we are called to do.
Jesus also spoke to helping and giving to the ones that we see as least, or enemy.
It is not an easy teaching to recieve.
But , I believe it is in this that we recieve the heart of Jesus.
Jesus took the cross for all, enemy and friend alike.
It is this we are called to do, but the wonderful thing is, Jesus gives us all we need to do this!
All is His glory and praise!

God bless.
