well Hj,
most parents who 'THINK' that they are disciplining their children 'Biblically',
have seen the 'results' of this become remiss of God's 'morals', simply because
their 'today's' fads dictate quite another from of 'satan's influence... off-spring not only rebel/obey,
but often kill=mutilate their own once Holy temples...
if any 'parent' wants to 'condone mutilating their sons and daughters skins, then I would ask you,
who do you serve???

Hi Hjulle,

We were 'stricter' with our older kids.. but realize God is both loving and gracious. Eph. 6.1-4 goes both ways, with children needing to obey, but parents also not provoking or exasperating the children. I know we had mistakes, but we continue to seek the Lord's guidance in parenting.

we can 'never' right our wrongs, God has told us this 'over and over', =
we can only, If we Love Him, do our best to pass-on our knowledge from our mistakes...

sounds very good,spank?
Spank? that's funny! I never have but I think my daughter thinks I have it in me. lol.
I remember One day I was at my daughter's fast ball tournament and One of the girl's was disrespecting
Her mother and I recall my daughter telling this girl that if I ever spoke to my dad like that, He would beat me like a "red headed step child". But I kid. My daughter has always had respect for me and all elder's for that matter. I coach baseball in the summer ( obviously not this summer)and I demand respect from all
the those who participate. I am taking time out of my life for them. If they don't respect that, They are out.
I like to think that I am making a difference in their lives.

"strict" is one of those words that means different things for different people.
is there a particular situation you want to chat about?

Welcome to CC. :)

I won't comment on your statement directly, but I will recommend that you obtain and read Boundaries by Cloud and Townsend. They are Christians, and their approach is a biblically sound and effective method for dealing with others, including one's children. There is a special edition of the book for dealing with children also.

Being "strict" offers no guaranteed results. Each child is different and how that child is handled needs to be determined individually.
The key is not forcing a child to obey through fear of punishment and discipline, but reach their heart so they Want to obey.
Often times children of strict parents are the ones that rebel as they have been so oppressed they're eager to experience life.

And, anyways, just like a strict parent will still disobey God, their child will also have disobedience to the strict parent. Both are guilty.

If you're more focused on discipline than love you're doing it wrong. Because true discipline is about love, not control. The tone of people eager to discuss their desire to be strict, and in this case, even scolding other parents, is quite frankly scary to think of for the poor child that will have to endure a religiously oriented demand for obedience.
