Is faith a gift from God, a fruit of the Holy Spirit, a choice or something that you gain through time, study and perseverance?
(if the subject was discussed before, I apologize, but I couldn't seem to find a thread on the subject, maybe I didn't look hard enough?:unsure:)

8For it is by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not from yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9not by works, so that no one can boast.…that is scripture that directly says it is a gift from God. Love the
Lord your God and your neighbor as yourself and that will include all of those. It is not necessary
to know what it is as long you live it. Names don't matter.
God bless you; the peace and love of the Lord Jesus Crist be with you.

S'ok...... :)

One of the subjects folks don't get tired of discussing........

Supernatural faith is certainly a gift from God...............but all men are born with a certain amount of earthly/carnal faith. Men (prior to their salvation) put their earthly faith in a myriad of things, and none of them prove to be worthwhile, but men still do. Power, wealth, possessions, etc.....

This earthly faith is the wee bit of faith that man needs when he FIRST believes............ that first act of believing in Christ which leads to their salvation and the gift of supernatural faith from God that gives man the strength of faith to BELIEVETH. Re: John 3:16. That kind of faith is a never ending faith in Christ that is our salvation.

God bless you and yours

We are saved by faith which is a choice to have faith, but we would of not came to the truth unless God intervened in our life, but not all make it to that truth for many are called, but few are chosen.

Then we have to work on increasing our faith by allowing the Spirit to lead us, and reading God's word being rooted in truth more, for the more you are rooted in truth the more you believe the truth, and not having doubts concerning the truth.

Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Gal 5:23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Gal 5:25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

The disciples asked Jesus to increase their faith, and faith is a fruit of the Spirit, which the fruit of the Spirit are available to all people.

The fruits of the Spirit have to do with our behavior in acting Christlike led by the Spirit, so all saints will have these fruits the same.

1Co 12:4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
1Co 12:5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.
1Co 12:6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.
1Co 12:7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
1Co 12:8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
1Co 12:9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
1Co 12:10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
1Co 12:11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

The gifts of the Spirit are divided among saints as the Spirit sees fit, and is more than our behavior to be like Christ in love towards people as in compassion, and not offending them, which love of people is the fulfilling of the law, for they cover our laboring for the kingdom of God like teaching, or healing, or prophesying, edifying other people, and understanding God's word.

Many are called but few are chosen, and when God calls a person according to their heart condition He will work with that person to get them to the truth.

No person comes to the Son unless the Father draws them.

No person says Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.

Peter claimed Jesus as the Christ, the Son of the living God, and Jesus said flesh and blood did not reveal that to him but the Father.

So nobody can come to the truth unless the Father intervenes in their life, for the flesh alone would not accept the truth.

But we have a choice to accept the truth, and some people do not make it to the truth, for many are called but few are chosen.

God's works in our life to get us to the truth, and when we see enough, and learn enough, and believe, then we make the choice to have faith and believe, some more sooner than others, and some do not get that far to have faith.

God does not control our thoughts as if we were robots, but God gave us freedom to choose what we think about. As we give ourselves to God's ways we are helped by the Lord.

I love exploring the ancient Hebrew written language when pictures represented words. The word faith's picture is of hammering a nail in a wall, representing depending on something solid.

Faith Is a gift,a gift from GOD and the reason I say that Is because men want to be able to See something before they believe and GOD desires a person to believe without Seeing.

John 20:29
King James Version

29Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.
+++
And yes faith Is a fruit,fruit of the HOLY SPIRIT.

Galatians 5:22
King James Version

22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
+++
I see faith as spiritual fruit and mans belief I would describe as belief that Is based on a persons 5 senses(see touch hear smell or feel).

I believe that faith Is a Gift from GOD given to carry a man to salvation

We cannot improve on the word of God but can offer how I do understand .

Faith = understanding the things not seen ...

Scripture inform us all men that are not born from above have no faith. Not little but zero . Faith (understanding God) Comes by hearing his understanding as he gives us new ears .

The faith as a work or labor of love is the faith of Christ the faith of God that works in us to both will and provide his good pleasure.. its comes by hearing his voice as it written . It as the spirit of faith. . . the same faith that worked in the list in Hebrews 11. Beginning with those well known and in the end hiding those in caves that the world was not worthy of .He hid the best. With no names . First last, last first.

There are some who believe the faith is of ourselves and not a work of His faith that does work in us .But that does not seem to ring true to some.

2 Corinthians 4:13 We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;

The opposite come from those who think their own fleshly mind (imagination) is a source of faith needed to please God ..

After a series of parables in Luke 9 that were used to try and teach the apostles how to hear God .Jesus rebuked them and informed they no not what manner of spirit they were trusting in. Not the mutual one spirit of faith as revealed in 2 Corinthians 4:13

Luke 9:55 But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of.

The key to faith is hidden in the parables .Many literalize the signified understanding and compare the things seen to the things seen . And not faith to faith. The unseen spiritual understanding "the gospel".

Again I would emphasize...

Same spirit of faith, according as it is written compared to the same source of the same faith

Faith is a gift from the Father. By faith we receive the Holy Spirit, whether we actually ask for the Holy Spirit or not.

Faith allows us to believe in things yet unseen, for by the Holy Spirit we know they are true.

We ask our faith be always increased to strengthen us on the Way given each of us by our Lord and Savior, Jesus.

Faith is not believing in God for things we want.
Faith is excepting the things he has given.

It means that up until the time of Jesus, we were under the law of Abraham.
It was our guardian until Jesus came.
Now we are living by faith. We are saved by grace through faith.
So now, Christ is of no value to you if you observe the old law, according to scripture.

Faith is the greatest 'un-seen/felt' Spiritual Gift from Yeshua - without it we are lost -
and as PR has said, some can have a personal, worldly, faith in Jesus even as a young child,
yet without comprehending His Holiness and Position; that also is a very special gift for some...
when we receive this precious Gift of Faith from our Creator, during and after conversion,
it's like being planted in cement, you feel peculiar and very secure, and yet another bonus of love comes,
when we use and act upon this most astounding Holy/gift, He presents us with yet another dose that draws
our Spirits and hearts even closer into His beloved, Holy, open, arms...
JOHN 2:24.
God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and in Truth.

People in the time of Abraham certainly lived by faith. Can you even imagine being told to go slaughter a prize steer as part of salvation, or as was true in those times, atonement? Those who did it as God asks them to, and not as the pagans did to "feed" God, did it on faith. We know now their atonement was through Christ, their giving of blood was only a symbol of Christ. Abraham lived by faith, as we are told as he was even willing to sacrifice what he loved best if God told him to.

God has given each of us the measure of faith. I also believe there is the gift of faith "To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; "

We truly do not understand it. Christ saying if we had faith the size of a mustered seed we could tell that MTN to get up and move and it would have to obey you. We forget everything God created is alive. "I tell you," he replied, "if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out."

Faith comes by hearing Gods word. Faith its the evadence of things not seen. Its the woman that KNEW if she just touched His clothes she WOULD be healed. She believe it.. she spoke it. If you don't use it exercise it. Seening allot written talked about that?

HAHA yet its what MAKES all this work. The only way you will ever please your Father your God is by FAITH!

Very interesting question. Faith has natural and supernatural abilities. I think extensive faith is supernatural and corresponds with God in more detail. Faith is the easiest fruit to receive from God, the Holy spirit's gift of faith gives us ability to act as God does and makes us more intertwined with God. There is the faith that grows over time, but i think it relates to spirituality as a christian in general. Time, study and perseverance as you say. The bible says the holy spirit is not given in measure, from this i assume that the gifts are also not given in measure.

Faith also grows to a very deep level.....where you just know that God is in every situation of your life...you can put your complete trust in him.

When you can do that.....you receive the peace of God and security in Christ...took me a long time to fully trust God.

He has my full trust.....as he is the only one who can be 100% trustworthy...never ever to let us down.
