Do you think your walk with the Lord is affected at times by your relationship status? If so, how/why?

Do you think it would change somehow if your status changed?

Well....

Entirely dependent on the relationship.

Good relationships are ones that makes the people involved stronger and more accountable.

Bad Relationships are where rules are bent and broken and I find myself hiding from God like Adam in the bushes.

Paul said it best. My paraphrase. If you got a wife/husband, that's going to take any effort you give towards God and divert it to the wife/husband or in this case the relationship.

I quite agree.
During my last relationship my relationship with God was very one sided (God loving me but me acting like the hypocrite). After we broke up and I put my life and future relationships in his hands our relationship very much improved. Then I met my fiance and as we grew close and began to court we supported and encouraged each others walk and our walk as a couple. We're far from perfect (what do you expect when you put two sinners together trying to do Gods will? lol). But we love the Lord, we love our church fellowship and we pray for each other and study the scriptures together.

God really likes it when i update my relationship status on facebook

Currently I am activie in the Singles Ministry and I help decorate or with food and serving for events at the church. I was also asked recently to be a Greater on Sunday mornings as well. I also have a heart for short missionary trips hopefully once or twice a year.

If I were married I would no longer be able to be in the singles ministry but I would probably be involved with the young couples ministry. If I had young children I probably wouldnt be able to help as much with fellowship events but would probably be able to help plan with children and youth activities. As far as missions go maybe thats something my husband and I could do together or he would just have to kiss me goodbye twice a year for about 10 days each trip.

I don't think that just because you get married that your realtionship with God is not going to be as good. I know many couples who are awesome couples in Christ. I think it just means change. Though WHO we worship and WHY we worship stays the same, HOW, WHEN and WHERE may change with the changes in our lives. We just have to be dedicated to Him and make that happen.

I understand what Paul was saying but I also think If God gives you a heart to be married and or have a family He will also make a way for you to serve in the kingdom with said family. If you are single and dont desire marraige/family then its not a big deal but if you are single and do desire it then you may be doing yourself a great disservice by trying to ignore it because your ministry/work/service may lay within your own family or helping others with theirs.

I've often wondered if the reason so many of us are single is because God can't find anyone to do the work He needs to be done... so He's nodding at us singles to carry the loads that others who are married with families are unable to bear.

I also personally feel that for some people who have a family (married or single), their family IS their ministry and that gets overlooked (for example, they are looked down upon because they don't go to every church potluck, attend every prayer service, or give the most money to missions)--I don't mean that as an excuse for apathy in any way but I've been in some church services where it almost felt like people with families were being condemned for "not doing enough of the Lord's work." Or... vice versa... sometimes those who are married act as if we singles aren't doing very much for the kingdom of God because they think we're out partying or something...

However, I do think that sometimes a relationship can help propel us in our walk with God--I've never had a romantic relationship with an on-fire Christian and hope to have that someday, because the Bible says that iron sharpens iron, and I appreciate people who move me forward.

It can also be a bit of a challenge to find your niche in ministry. I enjoyed talking to inmates and would love to talk to young veterans of current wars (the veterans home I went to with a group from my church were Vietnam war vets...)--however, my pastors have specifically asked me to stop for now, which is kind of depressing (they're concerned about my safety.) I've tried some other things (kids and preteen ministries, etc.) but my heart always goes back to prisons and the military.

I want to obey my spiritual leadership... but I do hope God releases me to go back to that kind of work someday.

Seoulsearch, I love your attitude. You are a delight to read.

I also agree with liamson.

This may seem cliche to some, but I can't stress it enough. Relationships are meant to be a triangle. With God at the top, the two at the bottom draw closer to each other only as they draw closer to God. It doesn't work any other way.

I dont change thats is why I am single..............God doesnt change thats why he is single............so we tend to hang out alot.............

I believe that if you have God truly number one in your life and in your heart..(and I mean truly),and the other person who your in a relantionship with is in the same mind frame as you where he/she has God first ,then your relantionship will go well and both of you will be able to help each other on your walk and journey with God,aside from walking with God individually(because we all have our personal relantionships with God as well.
I think people sometimes get to caught up in their relanionships and put God as second option and when you do that,if you notice 100 percent of relantionships dont work in the end.
Why does God come first some may ask?
Well for many reasons. His love is eternal,he loved us even before we existed.=).We should have a longing for him,a desire for him.The same way we wake up in the morning thinking of our other half,we should do the same with God.
With this all said,I do not think my walk with God would change at all..because with the Lord in my life I know what I need instead of what I want in a relantionship,I don't settle and wont go for anyone who doesnt have him first in his life and i would want someone as devoted as I am to be close to God.

I look forward to when my walk with God is joined by my Future wife. God is number one in my life and always will be, so it must be the same with my future wife. It would be nice to have someone on the same page and with the same goals.

Well, both me and my boyfriend are both rational Atheists, and we have an incredibly wonderful relationship.
So...no? Jesus has no affected our relationship, other than giving us another thing in common.
