Rissa, your posts don't paint you out to be a tomboy. I get more of a Band geek/ niche crowd feel. As if to truly understand you, I would have to be very close to you, because appearances can be deceiving.

Probably wrong^
I can't play an instrument. I'm not a music fanatic. I am artsy, though.

Thanks anyways :D

Curious... anyone wanting to see Prom?
The commercials for it make me gag.

And my other vote, was for foreign dramas. Like "12" or "Pan's Labyrinth" or "The girl with the Tattoo who plays with fire and kicks hornets nests."
You guys are right, of course... I'm sorry I missed some other great categories, so thank you for reminding me. I'm becoming a fan of foreign films (with English subtitles... I wish I spoke other languages, but unfortunately, don't), and they often pack quite a punch. "Pan's Labyrinth" was utterly raw; "Hero" with Jet Li was stunning; and I totally adored Lisbeth Salander (Noomi RaPace, the actress who plays her, was awesome) in the "Millennium" series ("The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", "The Girl Who Played with Fire", "The Girl who Kicked the Hornet's Nest".) WARNING--if you see any of these films, they are extremely hard-hitting but they really make you think (I didn't read any of the books in the Millennium series, nor had I ever heard of it... just picked up the first movie because it sounded interesting.) I've heard there is going to be an American remake of these films... I'm thinking I won't like the American ones as much...

And how could I forget animated movies!!!! I like a lot of Pixar films (The Incredibles!) and absolutely loved How to Train Your Dragon (I need a friend like Toothless!!)

Anyway... of course there are other choices of things to do beside movies :) -- I just tend to like them because I find it less intimidating if I don't know someone as well--sitting face-to-face with someone I haven't been able to talk to about the deep things of life yet, as in a first-date situation. I tend to ask a lot of questions as it is--I don't want to make the person feel as if they're being interrogated--to me, a movie (though maybe not as extremes as some of the first ones mentioned above) at least gives us something safe and neutral to talk about.

Actually, I'd hope to break the ice with a movie... and THEN go sit and talk for three hours... (If we find that we like each other's company, of course!)

I voted for 'Other'...

I think a bit differently from most other people. I want to see Fast Five, for instance (and, yes, I'm fully aware that it's going to stink). If a woman wanted to see Fast Five, then sure, we could go together. If she does not want to watch Fast Five, then no, I'm not interested in seeing that movie with her. I have no real interest in anyone who wants to do things she doesn't like just so that she 'could spend time with me'. If you're not interested in what I'm doing, then you need to be doing something else. If you're a painter, I'm not going to take up portrait painting as well because I don't like to paint.

Note: I am much more interested in someone who will decline an invite to do something that she doesn't enjoy opposed to someone who will do something she doesn't enjoy just to be by my side.

Hmmmm, well Aaron....I think I agree with you on some level, and dissagree with you on some level.

Most have heard by now my Monster truck date story....so (hypothetically...) if you were wanting to go to a monster truck thing....I would most likely decline because...well, erm...yea, I jsut would. You could go with one of your buddies. BUT....sometimes in relationships you adopt some of their interests and they adopt some of yours for the sake of supporting one another.

If she is a painter, it does not mean you buy an canvas, paints and brushes and stare at it mindlessly in pain because you hate it...BUT, mabey you can join her on an outing to an art gallery because she would enjoy the art, AND enjoy your company at the same time.

(then you can take her out for wings or BBQ or something to balance the date out. LOL)

Does that make sense?

You like cars. Going to a car show would not be first on my list....but I would go with you because I would take some joy in watching you have fun. AND, I am sure I could learn something along the way.

Compromise and being flexable in relationships to some degrees is a must. I'm not saying one has to go overboard......but just enough to show support and still have fun with one another.

I have been in relationships before where their interests were not my interests when we first started dating, but once I learned a bit about it...and saw the joy they took in it...it became fun for me on some level. What is a passion of theirs, becomes a passion of yours to some degree.

(*shrugs*, maybe I am just strange?? LOL)

Well, I'm all for trying new things. However, things that I know that I don't enjoy I won't do for the sake of someone else, and I wish the same in return. If I'm not happy with an activity, adding 'her' won't make the activity any more palatable...it will however, give me someone to gripe to, so that she'll have just as bad of a time as I am. (grin)

For clarification, I wasn't referring to things where you have no opinion...for instance, art museums? Eh...I could take it or leave it. Wouldn't be my first (or fifty-eighth) choice, but it's not a horrible death either. However, what I was getting at is for those who do have an opinion on something, yet squash it for the 'time together' issue. You like action movies where everything blows up? Fine, I'll save you a seat. You hate action flicks? Fine, go see what you want, no biggie. You hate action flicks but will come along just because I'm going? No thanks. You want me not go to see an action movie because you don't like it? Not a chance.

I love the 'Cars' movies, but am indifferent to most other Pixar flicks. You want me to come along to see Toy Story 87: Woody Goes To The Nursing Home?
Eh...ok. Not gonna hate it, but....eh. However... If you want me to come along to the latest Julia Roberts-has-been-left-at-the-altar movie? I'd much rather have Leo DiCaprio pull my fingernails out with a rusty pair of pliers. If you really like Julia Roberts, then go! If you won't go to see a movie you want to because I won't be there...that's just sad to me.

I don't change much (props to Hommer) , and I look for the same in others. I'm not interested in losing who I am to become Richandamy.

I dunno, Nuke... I for one could TOTALLY see you becoming BradPittANoochie. In fact, I think you grow to be more and more one with him with every post... :D

If someone invited me to do something I'm not interested in, yes, I might agree to it just to spend time with the person--some things aren't that enjoyable to me on their own, but they're not so bad with another person (doing dishes, for example.)

The other angle is that I may not know anything about what the person is asking me to go see or experience, so my saying yes isn't being insincere, it's trying something new because I can't be sure if I like it or not if I haven't at least tried... I mean, if Nuke asked me to go watch some kind of... I dunno? Live welding presentation on monster cars? I'd agree because I've never seen live welding on a monster car before!! So, I wouldn't know what I thought of it unless I tried going...

I kind of see some things as being like food--it can become an acquired taste... and sometimes you need to learn what adjustments have to be made to make the experience more enjoyable. For example, I'm not a camping person--I have problems with sunburn, windburn, extreme heat, insect bites, and the thought of using a tree as a bathroom. However, I HAVE spent weekends at campgrounds in a tent or camper--in other words, there was a bathroom and shower available, and the weather wasn't so extreme (I actually loved it when it rained) and had a perfectly enjoyable time, for the most part (of course, throw in visiting Cedar Point and you understand my motivation...)

You might not like baked potatoes at first... but add the sour cream, bacon bits, chives... and BAM!!! Suddenly it's not so bad. :) you just need the right condiments!!

But if you KNOW that you can't stand Julia Roberts...it doesn't matter if she's smothered in bacon bits...it's still no-go.

I could never sit next to anyone who didn't love Vin. It just wouldn't be right. Unless he had a lot of buttered popcorn. hahaha
(My loyalty to Vin only goes so far)

When I was a kid, my parents made popcorn EVERY night for 63 1/2 years. It was so bad I couldn't even stand the smell...Now the smell doesn't bother me, but I'm still not a fan of eating it.

However, at the movies...no one touches my Reese's Pieces.

As far as seeing FastFive, I was one of those guys who went out and modified my honda civic after seeing the first movie (The Fast and the Furious) when it came out. It defined a whole new genre of motorheads (if you can really call them that). Thank God people have finally stopped putting huge wings and wheels on their little hondas and toyotas lol. I didn't put any wing on mine. All my mods were performance mods. I did put some stickers on though.

Anyway, I've been disappointed by most of the sequels to that first movie. The only one I thought was good was the one where Vin Diesel was building that awesome black car which he also drove in the movie Triple X. So, I will wait for the reviews before deciding to see this new one.
Can I just say..I really liked Triple X and watch it anytime I find it on tv hahaha LOVE that car!
