Have you learnt to do this?

Took me quite some time to rely on God,.....

I remind myself daily to do this.

Especially when something seems impossible......it’s not impossible for God.

He is such a Mighty God!

My best experience came long after I came to believe and received the gift of faith. It came when out of need that I did not realize I had, I asked the Father to keep me in His Hand always. I got there, rather He put me there, and I sew people there very much content and at peace, people such as you. Thank you for this reminder. When anything comes my way that rattles me, I remember just Who is taking care of me, and all. God bless you..

Learning to "fully" trust in God (IMO) is a process. As our knowledge of Him and His Word grow, so does our faith in Him. As our faith grows, so does our relying, trusting, believing in Him. I'm reminded of the old Hymn "Leaning on the Everlasting Arms..."

(found here)

1
What a fellowship, what a joy divine,
Leaning on the Everlasting Arms!
What a blessedness, what a peace is mine,
Leaning on the Everlasting Arms! Leaning, leaning,
Safe and secure from all alarms;
Leaning, leaning,
Leaning on the Everlasting Arms.
2
O how sweet to walk in this pilgrim way,
Leaning on the Everlasting Arms!
O how bright the path grows from day to day,
Leaning on the Everlasting Arms!
3
What have I to dread, what have I to fear,
Leaning on the Everlasting Arms!
I have peace complete with my Lord so near,
Leaning on the Everlasting Arms!

I am definitely a WIP when it comes to this.

I find it very difficult.

This is not an excuse but I think life experiences get in the way, particularly relationships with supposed role models.

Very hard to trust God and lean in when your experiences with your parents were not good.

But God is good he will teach us to trust us, heal us off the stuff that stops us.
All in his time.

That's my experience.

I agree, life experiences certainly got in my way....but God has healed me from a terrible fear of men I had.....again because of past experience...but all in his timing....he knows what we can withstand.

Yes I totally agree that God will deal with based on him knowing what we can bear.

But I think there is purpose behind this that goes beyond our thoughts.
His thoughts are not our thoughts and his ways are not our ways.

I don't know if this is correct but hopefully will bring accross a very important point for me and what I believe.

If I look at what you are saying concerning your terrible fear of men.
Now my guess is that you sought God for healing for this fear, wanted God to heal it at the click of his fingers.

It doesn't come across as if he did?
If that's the case then I feel God is asking you to press in for this healing.
If he dealt with it straight away what use would you be to others that he wants to give you to help if you haven't been through I yourself?

There is something that is a bug bear for me and to be honest I fell foul of this.

Romans 8:28-29
28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.

People often quote v28 but neglect v29.

God promises to work good to those who love him in order to conform them to the image of Jesus.

Now that does not make the experience good, it doesn't make my suffered sexual abuse good, my beatings from my mum good, my gambling as a result good and so on.

But what has done for me is to work good in that (healed me from all that stuff and forgiveness was a very big part of this) and now I walk with people going through what I did.

It may seem a bit weird to say this but I actually thank God I experienced this because now I can help others in the knowledge that Jesus came for the broken hearted, to set the prisoner free and he want to use me and you.

I find that amazing

When relationships go bad we ask God to fix it for us, I know. But God will not order anyone to do as God says, and we are not to do that also, even if someone wants to harm us.

God lets us choose are own walk in this life, God loves us no matter what we choose. We are to follow God.

I used to dream about a relationship being fixed, and spent time with "ain't it awful" thoughts. It seems to me I got a clear message from the Lord to accept the life God put me in, trust Him with my life here on earth as well as trust Him to give me salvation and save me from my sins.

Actually,no I never wanted the Lord to heal me of my fear of men......I wanted to hold on to it,He gently took it from me,....it was all I had ever known......I didn’t understand all this Love stuff.......I could receive God’s Love......for me that was enough.....it’s a long complicated story Bill....I can’t fully share it at the moment.

I find your post very insightful and can very much relate to it........I also thank God for my past experience.....it teaches us a lot it can help us relate to others who have experienced similar.

I know what you mean. I held on the hatred towards my sexual abuser for 30 years and was not going to give it up. When the process started it took 2 years.

When he died I sorted out his estate. Was with him just before he died in hospital.

I feel that you know but I am wondering if you have forgiven them, no matter what it is, That is the first step for it becomes difficult to trust God if we bear grudges in our heart. They become stumbling block in our face. It is not easy sometimes but we must do it with all honesty.

I agree unforgivness is a stumbling block as it was for me.
But God led me through the process of forgiving.

So yes all forgiven.

Relationship with my mum restored.

Sorted out my sexual abusers estate when he died, alongside him on his death bed.

As I said above in post 7.

"But what has done for me is to work good in that (healed me from all that stuff and forgiveness was a very big part of this) and now I walk with people going through what I did."

Forgiveness is the key.

As this wise man says

To forgive is to set a prisoner free and discover that the prisoner was you.

It does sister.

If only those who haven't been through it would understand it.

But of course they won't understand it.

When I sought help for my gambling addiction I was told "Bible says don't do it so stop it"

I left thinking "Well if I could stop it I wouldn't have sought your help, thanks for nothing"

They didn't he ask or dig deeper to see what was the cause of effect.

Truly sad and shocking.

So you don't agree with my thoughts?
I suppose that debating is one of the services of this site, but I use it more to express my thoughts and test them with scripture. I was thinking of adding to your post, it made me think and question myself. I hadn't considered opposing you.

Life leaves many scars and sometimes the pain is so deep that only the miracle surgeon, the Holy Spirit can bring healing.

Forgiveness is truly the hardest thing I think we can try to give, not only for the offender but mostly for ourselves.

This seed destroys our hope, trust, love, joy and peace.
I kept hating my dad even for 10 yrs after his death. It was an eye opener for the Spirit to show me how holding on to this was retarding my walk with God.
He is patient and kind and leads His sheep with gentleness, pouring in the soothing oils of healing.

I am so very very thankful that He is long- suffering to us and the Spirit works through all our imperfections as we allow Him with love.

May we grow stronger in leaning on and into Him!

I never really connected these things, but during a very painful time in my life, I was terrified to trust God with everything. I was convinced that if I trusted Him, he would let a bunch of scary things happen to me that I didn't think I could handle. I worried about my car breaking down every day on my way to work as I would cry out to Him that I just couldn't trust Him completely... for if I did, He would then try to do some amazing God thing in the midst of letting my car break down, and I just didn't want the stress of it, miracle or not. I asked Him to give me a willing heart, but was honest.

Well, I know where this comes from now. If you trust someone, they will let bad things happen to you, or will not protect you. Totally a wound, but it was flared up like crazy.

I wouldn't say that God let my car break down like I thought He would... BUT... there was one day when I was not on the freeway and as I turned left across oncoming traffic (which was still a ways off) my front axle broke (the joint right beside the tire, whatever it's called). I honestly am not sure how I made it completely across the road, but I did, with my daughter in the passenger seat and in the line of any car that would have hit us. We were ok though, and no accident!!
I was stressed but somehow not hysterical. My daughter's friend came to rescue us, a very kind tow truck driver came and took my car to the dealership, and we managed to still pick out our Christmas tree, which is what we were headed out to do that night in the first place. So it actually is a great memory, with Jesus branding the event with His love all over it.

God really healed my heart that night (and many other times in the midst of 'scary' things that were frightening to me). He provided help, and also kept me in His peace.
I have many other things to give over to Him more fully, but just wanted to share this story in case anyone else can relate.
