If that is the case, then you should believe that Israel refers to the nation Israel. The Body of Christ is separate from Israel.
Do you know that God changed Jacob's name to be henceforth called Israel, Gen 33:28?

Jacob/Israel is separate from the nation of Israel, and Jacob/Israel is representative of God's elect, Rom 9:11. and consists of every tongue, and kindred, and people, and nation, Rev 5:9.

Is repentance not a gift from God ?

Acts 11:18
18 When they heard these things they fell silent. And they glorified God, saying, “Then to the Gentiles also God has granted repentance that leads to life.”

2 Timothy 2:25
25 correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth,

Revelation 3:19
19 Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent.

I hope you meant the current nation of Israel.
Doesen't anyone understand the difference in the nation of Israel, and Jacob as Israel, by God changing his name to Israel? Gen 33:28.

That's from my perspective. I don't even know about different types of religion. I just study the word of God with the Strongs and no commentary.
In my opinion, that is all that you need. Scripture proves scripture, and they must all harmonize.

Jeremiah 31:33-34
33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.

34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the Lord: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

If you have a view of Repentance that leads to forgiveness of iniquity and remembering sins no more but it doesn't lead to Gods Law written in hearts then it also doesn't lead to the people being Gods People.

This is what True Repentance leads to. Its the desire to DO the things in Matthew 5 and not just read about them.
The "house of Israel" is "the house of Jacob". God changed Jacob's name to Israel, Gen 33:28. Jacob/Israel and the nation of Israel are two different Israels. Jacob/Israel is representative of God's elect, Rom 9:11.

Acts 11:18, The life mentioned in this verse, is not eternal life, but a life that God's regenerated children can enjoy as they sojourn here in this world by following God's commandments. Repentance is not the cause of eternal life, but is a product of already having the security of their eternal inheritance.

I understand that...
But is repentance itself not a gift from God?...

Before a person can repent of breaking a spiritual law, he has to be able to understand about spiritual things, by being quickened to a new spiritual life, Eph 2, with his heart having been changed from a stony heart to a fleshy heart, Eze 11:19, that has a conscience that can be pricked by God when he breaks a spiritual law, so, Yes, repentance is a gift from God.
The natural man will not repent of breaking a spiritual law that he does not understand, and thinks is foolishness, 1 Cor 2:14.

My understanding is that repentance simply means ' change of mind ' .
It could also be breaking frame from a current set of propositions.

Jesus gives an example of repentance being a change of mind in Mathew 21 .
28¶But what think ye? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to day in my vineyard.
29He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he REPENTED AND WENT.
30And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not.
31Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.
32For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him.
So we see two things . He repented ( changed his mind and went . So repenting isn't the action its the changing of mind .

Thoughts?
Agree ?
Disagree ?
Hello @throughfaith,

Repent means to have a complete and total change of heart and mind.......how often have we said, "If I had it to do all over, I'd do it right this time!"

Sometimes we don't get a chance to do something over but, we can say we're sorry and do our best to make up for it - do what it takes to "fix" the hurt or wrong that was done.

I like that God is the God of Second Chances........meaning that when we do something wrong, we get the "test" again!

The parable you chose, is really more about obedience to the Father's Will and how sinners will actually obey God, while "religious" folk will talk like they do but, do not do the Father's Will.

Opposition to obedience is "pride" and/or "ignorance." God rejects the proud and pride rejects God. Then, there's ignorance........God says, "My people perish for lack of knowledge," even Jesus said on the cross......"Father, forgive them they don't know what they are doing."

Interesting...... @Rosemaryx,

I've never thought of "repentance" as a gift from God but, more as a response to the gift of faith from God that opens our eyes to His Truth.......

Anyways, maybe repentance is a gift from God.......interesting view.(y)

I don't think there is anything i disagree with there . My issue is when i hear we have to repent of our sins to be saved . Or turn from your sins to be saved . obviously sin is transgression of the law . Therefore obey the law to be saved . How Calvinists get round this from their view is to say ' repentance and faith are a ' gift ' .

As I stated, I am not into replacement theology. The Body of Christ is the body of Christ, Israel is the nation Israel.

Its not replacement but is placement . The body in Christ is the bride. Christ is the anointing Holy Spirit of God .God is not a man .

Romans 12:5 So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.

All of Israel is not born again Israel. In the same way a Jew is not a Jew outwardly according to the flesh but according to the Spirit of Christ that works in him.

If any man has not the Spirt of Christ they simply have not been born again .

The new propmised name the father named the bride is Christian As a more befitting name. It represent all the nations .

God is not the Father of one nation. Never was never will be.

We walk by faith (the eternal). Not by sight (the temporal)

Do you separate the Body of Christ from Israel?

The verse literally says that's to Israel .
Matthew 15:24 But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

And your point is what?

Did the Lord make a New Covenant with the House of Israel that we are now a part of?

Its really "turn from your work of trying to be righteous" (which is dirty rags, aka sin) and turn to the One who gives Righeousness as a gift.

Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Repentance and faith are gifts that lead to even greater gifts of Salvation and Righteousness.

I think the air we breath is a gift in a sense .

But if you mean ' repentance and faith ' are a gift in the sense of ' regeneration precedes faith ' then i would disagree. Not because i don't want it to be true or that it clashes with my worldview or something. No I do not see this in the bible.
