Is punishment not a different matter than the law (God's commandments) to be obeyed. Jesus / Yeshua took the punishment under the new covenant, but is there not still a law that defines sins that are forgiven?
Under our new covenant with God, is the law abolished, or now written on our hearts and minds?
the law of Moses is
not for Christians , it’s for those who reject Christ to hold them to account before God.
“Now we know that
what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.
Therefore
by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
Romans 3:19-23
Gods commandments are
everything jesus said from this point
“Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying,
the heaven was opened, And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.”
Luke 3:21-22 KJV
A lot of People struggle with this understanding there’s a lot of prophecy but Jesus said it really well if we believe we will know where Gods commandments come from
“For the Father judgeth no man, but hath
committed all judgment unto the Son:
That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation;
but
is passed from death unto life. Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and
now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live.”
John 5:22-25 KJV
Moses wrote about this time that was coming In the law itself And that Christ’s word would be the words of God . And the people would have to heed that prophets words .
“For
Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me;
him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people.
Yea, and all the prophets from Samuel and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have likewise
foretold of these days.
Ye are the children of the prophets, and of
the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed.
Unto you first God, having
raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities.”
Acts 3:22-26 KJV
Peter is quoting Deuteronomy the situation was God began to speak and the people in fear pleaded with Moses not to have God speak to them again . But Moses they asked would
Mediate a relationship between them and God .
Which God allowed , but what else God did was promised that
a different prophet would be raised up from the people of Israel and he would be the one to hear and obey he would speak the words of God
“I will raise them up
a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.”
Deuteronomy 18:16, 18 KJV
peter of course there makes clear it’s Jesus but then look at what jesus was saying
“Jesus answered and said unto them,
This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.
...For the bread of God is he which
cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.
And Jesus said unto them,
I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
...
It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God.
Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.
Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. I am that bread of life.
....It is
the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing:
the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
...Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go?
thou hast the words of eternal life. And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.”
John 6:29, 33, 35, 45-48, 63, 68-69 KJV
To believe Jesus is life to reject him is death
“He that
rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.
For I have not spoken of myself; but
the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.”
John 12:48-50 KJV
Moses is an accuser by his law but those who come to God through Christ have salvation
“
Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.
I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.
...Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father:
there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust.
For had ye
believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for
he wrote of me. But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?”
John 5:39-40, 43, 45-47 KJV
which Jesus is referencing what Moses has said about the messiah and his words when he came
“But the hour cometh, and
now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth:
for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ:
when he is come, he will tell us all things. Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.”
John 4:23-26
