My grandpa Bert, was a Seargeant in World War I. And a seargeant gives commands! And they must be obeyed. God commands people everywhere to repent! It's not a matter of waiting around for someone to do it for you. God already did His part - He provided the way of salvation to the world through Jesus' dying on the cross for the sins of the world. And following that - He commands all people to repent! So the next step is yours. Not His! He is not wiling that any should perish, though He knows many will end up in hell - due to willfully rejecting God in their lives. But choose not to be like those who choose to reject Him, and who refuse to repent of their sins! Hell is a terrible place to spend all eternity after this life - in! While heaven is the most wonderful place there is - to spend all eternity in! Up there - you'll be in God's presence forever, and will be happier than you've ever been before while on earth!

It saddens me that with everything going on around the world right now, that so called Evangelistic preachers are still pushing things that tickle the ears. I have not heard anyone (thinking mainstream well known) stand up recently and say to the church "REPENT!"

What good does it do us have faith in that Christ is capable of forgiving our sin if we don't give up our sin and let Christ pay for it and forgive us?

If we don't use the sacrifice of the Lord of His blood for the forgiveness of the sin we repent of it can be compared with who people used the sacrificial system before Christ for killing instead of for blood given for the atonement of the soul. The first chapter of Isaiah tells us what God thinks of that.

The Lord tells us we must be perfect, and the only way to perfection is by accepting what Christ does for us. Then we are perfect. We must give up our will to sin, another way of saying we must repent.

There is an added blessing, in addition to the eternal life this gives us. Living God's way as much as we can leads to blessings in this life, also. It is the road to contentment and peace.

How will they believe if they don't change their mind ?

Which means that the Gospel must be preached as a COMMANDMENT to repent and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. This rarely happens.

God commands sinners to TURN from their sins and idols and turn to Christ for salvation. Which means that a forsaking of sin and a surrender to Christ is a divine imperative.

God does COMMAND men to believe on Christ. It is not an option: And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. (1 John 3:23)

And so one has to ask......repent of what? Are you doing something to repent of?
Repent is an action verb, so get to it and stop the nonsense.

Among those who are obsessed with repentance are 7th Day Adventists and other cults that deny the sufficiency of the propitiation.
Christians don't need to be reminded to repent, we have the Holy Spirit to convict us.

Telling people to ' turn from their sins " do you mean they have to stop sinning first ,in order to be saved ?

If only they were preaching the Gospel to people outside the church.

Please provide scripture reference.
That
Please provide scripture reference.
Fair point actually. I see all those in bible who recieved the good news and were saved were told to tell others the good news . I see it as done out of love . Its strange to think to do it only because you were told to . Given how wonderful the message of reconciliation is . 2cor 5 .19

So if we repent we are obsessed? And if we don't think just as you do we are a cult? Have you ever considered being kind, loving, or accepting? It is the way of Jesus when Jesus comes into your heart. I don't agree with all the seventh day Adventists, but I even repent of the sins I do not realize I have committed as scripture tells me to do, I obey scripture not you.

It isn't what any man tells you to believe, or how you paraphrase the words of the Lord. Our sin kills us, being saved is getting rid of the sin that kills us. To get rid of it, we have to turn from it and let Jesus take care of it. To give it into the care of Jesus, we have to turn it over to Him, in other words, we have to repent. We are humans, we can't stop sinning, but we can stop willing to sin. That is required.

Thank you for this spiritually eloquent explanation of the nature and purpose of repenting always.
If we say we do not sin, we are saying we are perfect. We are not perfect but we will be when our Father completes that work which He began in each of us, and this will only be on His Glorious Day.
He is doing the work we gave Him to do when we realized He is all in all, not we.

Sin is transgression of the law. If your trying to stop sinning TO BE SAVED then your trying to keep the law to be saved .

Have you ever found a post of mine telling people that the Lord looks at how we stop sinning to decide on our salvation?

To say that our salvation depends on our works is false, and it is better to have a millstone around our necks than to state such. I do not appreciate your accusation of me.

I agree with the message. I do want to point out that Commands given do not have to be obeyed. It is just that those who choose to not obey them must suffer the consequences for their disobedience. Those Soldiers given Commands do not have to obey, but the punishment for disobedience can be quite severe. Those people who choose to disobey God suffer a much greater punishment for their disobedience, and, yet, vast numbers of people still do.

The Command to repent is given to those who are not living in agreement with God. They are to "turn to" God and away from their sinful lives. People looking for a specific sin simply have to look at the sin of living apart from God.

Romans 10:14 is pretty clear.

Isn't "not living in agreement with God" what sin is? And aren't we told that if we say we do not sin, we lie?
