So...

St. Patrick's day is coming...
And I'm a massive cheapskate (as well as fully equipped and stocked)

I found whole Briskets on sale today as a loss leader at Kroger's today... only $1.99/lb.
Corned beef cuts were selling for over $5/lb.

So I am one to compare the price of ground chuck to chuck roast and have my own meat grinder... getting the picture?

So...I got a whole brisket...I'll take the good end and make a corned beef roast and the rest I'll put into a stew or grind it up...it's cheaper than the $3.59/lb ground beef (not chuck but I know how to get 80/20 GB too)

So...I'm going to be busy for a minute while I get out my spices, salts, and syringe to cure up this thing. (Ground up a chuck roast last night)

Then the wifey is hollering about something baked...I don't think she cares if it's cookies or whatever at this moment... maybe I can make those dried cherries/white chocolate and candied orange peel cookies she likes so much.

The first post in SYM of the new year of 2017 was made by wwjd_kilden...

She deleted her account some time ago...

I cannot say much more than that, partially because *gossip* o_O:giggle:

Multilingual Messenger, Tommy, Socreta93, and Amazing Grace were posting at the end of '16 into '17 along with Blue Lady Bug and Decon... BLB has sojourned to twitter but keeps us updated on her progress there, and Decon, the OP of the longest running thread (Not By Works) with the most posts ever (approaching 150,000 posts, currently with 149,954 posts on page 7,498) was banned a while back... Tommy has disappeared, Socreta sill posts, and AG is now a guest, also. Dan 473 was around then, too, and I think see him occasionally in the BDF? There were others present who are now guests, also, including jennymae, who may be back with a similar user name, though I am not absolutely certain of that, so please don't quote me on it LOL. Demi777 is still around also, though seemingly not as active.

Apparently around the first few days of 2017, it snowed here quite a bit, whereas this winter, we have had none at sea level this side of the mountains, though a bit of frost, and lots of fresh snow on the mountain tops, which look very pretty in early morning pink light. I posted this around that time... you may find it funny :D

We have some pretty steep streets coming straight up from the ocean... and in winter some of them get barricaded because they are just too dangerously slippery to try going up or down... but I have seen people decide to navigate a hill where two cars are already in a smash up at the bottom... and sure enough, the third car fails to navigate the slippery street properly and simply smashes into the two cars that are already smashed up... it is one of those moments where one really shakes their head LOL

Laura Charlotte was also posting in SYM in early 2017... not sure where she has gone :unsure: LaurenTM was also here, then, and is now a guest, though may or may not have repeatedly created new profiles, had them deleted eventually, only to join again under a new user name... like maybe six times LOL. EarnestQ has also gone awol :( Kodiak! Oh, yes, awww, last posted just over a year ago...

Granndpa visits from time to time. He had this to say early 2017:

Blain also pops in from time to time, and is a fairly active member still. He can always use your prayers.

JustWhoIAm and WineRose were also present... though I have no idea where they are now :unsure: And there were others, too, during that first week of 2017; some are now guests, and some just not been active for so long or I have little recollection of who they were or are...

Oh...
Recipe for corned beef brine is basically just pickling spice, some garlic and juniper berries and lots of salt and a bit of prague powder.

It's boiled off and cooling outside now.

But the smell is incredibly good.

No wonder my ear itched :p

I actually randomly came back just to see who was watching the Super Bowl and who was rooting for either team. I hardly post nowadays. Life has been pretty good lately though, for anyone wondering. I'm in a good season. ^_^

I’m watching the Super Bowl and I pretty disappointment so far. Enough with the penalties on the Chiefs! The Chiefs offense needs to step it up and score some touchdowns! The Buccaneers defense has been breathing down their necks the entire first half.

This is going to taste incredible...spiced beef....wife said something about thieves oil...I dunno about that.

But juniper berries are the primary flavoring in Gin.

Is the Buccaneers defense just really that good or is the Chiefs offense just playing that bad? Mahomes is constantly under pressure and the Chiefs are not catching the ball when it really counts. What an embarrassing Super Bowl game for the Chiefs! :(

There was a story on the news the other day about a lady waiting in the Drive-thru queue. The person behind her was going ballistic and she was sitting there thinking, "where does this person wants me to go?"

After waiting for a while with the person behind her acting like a lunatic she eventually get to the 'pay' window and asked the cashier what is owed by the person behind her. They gave her the amount and she paid for both orders.

At the next window she asked the cashier to please give her both orders and she provided them with proof of payment. The person behind her eventually calmed down after they reached the payment window. As the cashier gave her both orders, she closed her window and drove off.......

Not what I expected but apparently it worked for her :p
