Whether "hell" is infinite torment is a matter of much debate. What is certain is that those who are not in the Kingdom of God through faith in Jesus Christ will suffer eternal separation from God.
There are other instances in the Bible where forever didn't mean infinity.

We are in the precursor to Hell. This place burns to ash. I wonder if the sun ages fast and causes it to enlarge to engulf the Earth.

Is there something preventing God from turning the sun back on after Judgment Day?

No, but God destroys the entirety of the creation in the final era leading up to the Apocalypse and ultimately destroys everything by fire at the moment of the Apocalypse. It stands to reason that an impure and corrupted creation cannot bear the pure face of the Most Holy God.

For the Sun particularly, it's kind of amusing that it is destroyed well before the end, I suppose the unbelievers and the solar worshippers that put so much stock and wove their false modern mythology around the Sun will be very astounded at that sign. It is amazing how God's promises utterly fly in the face of the prognostications of the fools.

Some did yes, obviously some were utterly wicked, but yes, before Christ all the races with exception to Israel lost the knowledge of God. We can actually sort of see this in the Bible as in the early parts of Genesis there is an almost universal recognition of God, and that makes logical sense since God saved Noah and his sons whom are the fathers of everyone alive today, but by the time we get to Abraham there are very few that retain the knowledge of God, and by the time of Moses it's pretty much just Israel and those that sojourn with them.

The good news is that with Christ's birth, crucifixion, and resurrection then the knowledge of God began to spread to the other races via the apostles (this forms a large plot point of book of Acts and the backdrop for Paul's letters) so that the world may be given the knowledge of God again so that it has no excuses. On the other hand though this means the world will be even more wicked on this side of history because they will simply reject God and his good ways, thus the extreme curses of the book of Revelation that are promised for them culminating ultimately in the total destruction of creation. Though one good turn deserving another, this also means that those that believe in Jesus and his good ways will indeed inherit the promise of God of eternal life.

This passage comes to my mind immediately, and I think is fairly decent in supporting this notion:

Acts 17:24-31
24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;

25 Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;

26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;

27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:

28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

29 Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device.

30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:

31 Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.

Romans 1:19-21
New International Version

19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.
21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.

Atheists like to bring up the "angry" God of the Old Testament ..He did wipe some wicked people out. They had zero chance of being compatible with God's Kingdom.

Since Genesis 6, there's been a literal WAR between the effects of the Fallen Angels up till and a few examples [after] the Flood of Noah.

God killed the demonic offspring that had perverted the original peoples of the earth in the Flood of Noah. In the instances where God ordered for a Nation of people to be destroyed, their belongings and all possessions to be burnt to nothing. These people were offspring of the demonic Giants and other things born. In theory, the're not even [a] portion human.[/B]

So God wasn't being a mean overseer in the Old Testament, He was kicking the weeds out from his Creation that Satan and the other Fallen Angels tried to breed into.

יחיד = "Nobles" is the translation of the Hebrew cherem [Herem or cherem (Hebrew: חרם, ḥērem)] (occurring only in the plural) = Herem or cherem (Hebrew: חרם, ḥērem), as used in the Tanakh, means 'devote' or 'destroy' in an act of war.

Ultimately, the use of Nobles [specifically Cherem] here in Genesis 6 is to [SIGNIFY] an Act of War.

The Ancient Hebrew [יחיד] wants us to view this as War from the Fallen Sons of God (Job gives 3 examples) upon God Himself by trying to [Destroy God's Creation of Humanity]. This WAR ended with the Flood of Noah!

2 Peter 2 explains the conditions of the [sinful Earth], (before the LAW), including examples of Sodom, and sexual perversions, lusting after [STRANGE flesh (Angel with human)], and the Disobedience by those Angels still chained in a Darkness you can feel engulfed all around you like it's touching you until the Day of judgement!

If we understand that the Fallen Angels created the Act of War by breeding Giants to be demonic and destroy God's Creation, we understand why [After] the Flood from the lineage of Ham, we see God ordering Joshua to destroy the enemy-their possessions-everything-make it completely disappear, we see the Kingdom of Israel [Saul] is commanded to utterly destroy certain enemies like Amalekites. This is all remnant of that Act of War.

I have a hard time with the eternal hell thing. I know Heaven is infinite ..but why would a loving God allow infinite torment? I get the reason to scream it at atheists, but they see it as a reason to not even bother trying to believe.
No one said anything about "screaming." goodness........

Do you NOT believe Scripture? I say again, get that "Spiritual Status" thingy of yours corrected, and you might find the answers to all your doubts you seem to have.

Is the view of God being angry in the Old Testament from God setting opportunities for souls to be compatible with the Kingdom?
Did the "anger" stop because Jesus started a new way out of this fallen condition?
No. GOD cannot be moved to anger. GOD is impregnable. How can anyone impregnate the GOD with anger?

The reason why the OT portrays GOD that way is because of how the sent ones that transmitted HIS messages to the people. The people could not hear GOD directly, only those HE sent, Moses the law, and the Prophets had that privellage.

GOD is the same yesterday, today and forever. And it took the GOD HIMSELF to come into the earth in HIS incarnate Manifestation to reveal to us HIS Most Holy Character.

It isnt heaven and hell, that is a misunderstanding. It is rather, heaven and the Lake of fire.
Hell is the ghost world where all who die to go to, to await resurrection. In the ghost world there is Abraham's Bosom, which the GOD sanctified and ordered while HE was there before HE resurrected HIMSELF. That is where the ghosts (Spirit Being programmed in the soul) of the children of the kingdom go to, and await resurrection.

No child of the kingdom shall be cast into the lake of fire. Only tares are destined for the lake of fire. And that is tare celestial beings as well: Tare cherubim, tare seraphim, tare angels, tare humans all have their place of residence in the lake of fire.

Contrary to the lies spouted by the churches in the earth, the Lake of fire is Celestial, and therefore its system is regenerative, it is like a recycling system. In the lake of fire, the person will experience the second death- which is the detatchment of their Spirit Being from their soul and then regenerated again. And they will experience this for all eternity.

However, its not because of what they did, its because their very Spirit Being is impure - meaning that they are not nor ever were children of the kingdom. Rather, their spirit beings were supplied by the abyss. And GOD allowed it because darkness needed to be defined for Light to also be defined.

Lucfier used to use the lake of fire to brutally punish the angels that did not listen to him. He is under the belief that the lake of fire cannot affect him because the lake of fire could not harm the celestial body of the cherubim. However, it could affect the celestial body of Angels because Angels are inferior to the Cherubim and Seraphim. But as was revealed in the book of daniel, the temperate of the furnace can be increased up to 7x. Lucifer and cohorts will be cast into there, along with death and hell, and all the tare hominids. For they have no acccess at all into Heaven.

Was God's deadly wrath in the Old Testament only against those that had zero chance of entering Heaven? Can God be excused for wiping out the hopeless since He can see the outcome?

We know these people were wicked and beyond the point of believing they needed to repent because the Bible is specific they are wicked. There's no need to assume does this mean God only wiped out evil and could have He also killed good, when it's clear only [8 people] were good. That's easy deduction, subtraction, reduction, mathematics.

The more we get involved into the specifics of the [ultimate results of havoc] that these fallen angels left, one should clearly see that if an ANGEL procreated with a HUMAN, the offspring has about a trillion variances that it could go. We have [no idea] how many fallen angels were involved. But even at 500 fallen angels, that's 500 chances of variance with the DNA and Inherited Genetics of the human giving possible results. As a Biologist, one might confuse such a thing as evidence of evolution!

Is there a chance that flood was regional and not the entire Earth?
Not unless you want to call God a liar.

Genesis 9: 11 Thus I establish My covenant with you: Never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood; never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.”

Since we know there have been thousands of local floods since Noah’s flood, causing all sorts of calamity, the verse above proves that it was a global flood.
