Hi everyone, I’m not sure if this post belongs here, but I’m going to try putting it here. I hope that’s okay.

So I was talking to this person.
And the way he said something kinda hurt my feelings.
Advice I was given by a different person was to move on and forgive them.

Would you guys happen to have a verse or verses that could be used as justification for this erm, position?
I’m not trying to judge him or anything, it’s just like, cuz of Thessalonians 5:21 yknow.
Maybe more details regarding my situation with the first person are needed for you guys, and I’m down to provide more information if y’all need it.

You may find that forgiveness is a process, and moving on before you have more fully processed something may be ill advised, especially if it is something really big, in which case it could take time for you to come to a better understanding of how and why you were hurt, accept your part in it, and find forgiveness for all involved, including yourself.

Hi, Twistii.

I obviously don't know how this person "hurt your feelings" because you didn't provide us with any details, but I will offer you this generic piece of scriptural advice.

"I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me." (Gal. 2:20)

As Christians, we're supposed to be dead to ourselves and alive to Christ.

I don't know if you've ever been to a wake or a funeral or not, but I trust that you recognize that it's impossible to hurt the feelings of someone who is dead.

If it truly is no longer us who live, but Christ who lives in us, then when somebody says something offensive to us, instead of taking it personally, we'll grieve for them and pray for them as we recognize that their offense is really aimed towards Christ and not us.

Hopefully, this makes sense.

Yep.
It's in the Lord's prayer. "Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive others their trespasses against us".

So my question is who are you? You think maybe you have never sinned or hurt someone else?
I am sure that for every person who has hurt your feelings or did something against you, you have done the same to someone else.
The problem with many Christian is that we forget how dreadful and awful we are and are willing to nail others to the wall. Let me give you some advice if you can hear it. Feelings don't matter, stop letting them run you. Being offended is a position of weakness.
Maybe this guy is a toxic fellow and you have to disassociate from them to protect yourself, or maybe he is just a normal guy who says and does stuff without thinking. I don't know if he is even a professing Christians or a lost worlder. Even so a professing Christian may not actually be one. He may be a churchy for all we know. At any rate he said something that hurt your feelings.... So. There are two options learn from it or sulk over it.

Let me tell you a story about a guy I know. He is and was a Christian. But many years ago he didn't think that Christians had to take any mess from people, so when someone did something against them he would bludgeon them. He even did this at work knowing he could find another job rather easily, he was even fired from a company many times and they had sometimes even hired him back on before he got home. He was a good worker and his field was a rough one anyway. There is no way he could ever make amends to any of these people because I don't even know their names or where to find them. Now he knows that is not the Christian way and that we do indeed have to take mess from people. I have two choices one accept that he was wrong and ask God for mercy and believe that God forgives me for my sins, or that due to the fact that it is impossible to make amends that I am damned to hell.
I believe God is merciful even to a fool and forgives sins. I don't need people to come to me and apologize, I need to know the full measure of my own sins and have mercy on others.

The only reason to go to someone and tell them their fault, is if they may learn from it and walk a better walk. Not for recompense for ourselves.

Making amends does not include pointing out any perceived -real or imagined- fault in others :)

Nor is it simply saying, "I am sorry." Though that may be all that is required...

The Lord's prayer states it clearly enough. Unforgiveness basically means that we believe the offender owes us a debt (parable of the unjust servant). If we are unwilling to forgive others, why would God forgive us? This is especially true with Christians. This is not an issue of eternal life, but we lose God's favour and we have a defiled conscience when we refuse to forgive.

Sometimes the hurt is too deep and the offence too great. God has a remedy for that situation also:

Hmm, if it’s okay for me to do so, I think I’d like to add on a question.

1) who exactly would my brother be in Matthew 5:17-19 and/or Galatians 6:1? It understand it wouldn’t be a stranger on the street who happens to be a Christian?

Brothers and sisters are fellow Christians

Well, yes, a brother or sister is a brother or sister in Christ, but I think my question pertains to the contexts of the verses that I put up there, my friend

The world is not brothers, they are neighbors. Only Christians are brothers

My bad, when I said “a brother or sister is a brother or sister in Christ” I meant the fellow believer kind of brother not the family relational kind of brother.

Also I should’ve said Matthew 18:15-17
But allow me to say my question this way:
In Matthew 18:15-17, who is “thy brother” and in Galatians 6:1, who is the “man?” (both refer to believers, but do you think they refer to ANY believer?

“Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican” (Matt 18:15-17 KJV)

"Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted” (Galatians 6:1 KJV).

[btw I’ve edited this msg]

If I’m not mistaken, both refer to believers, correct? However, would you argue these commands do not apply to you for every believer you meet?

Hmm, I think I mostly wanted like, a verse (or verses) for moving on, I feel like forgiving is something that’s more well known :D
