Good morning everyone.
Having my cups this morning of some Pete's Major Dickason's blend. Good stuff!
Got a lot to do today getting ready for vacation.
Also going to make some Slim Jim type meat snacks to bring with us on vacation today. I think that my Father-in-law will love them. (He makes a type of sausage ball that is similarly flavored). Mine will be in casings and not have a burnt spot. (He is a somewhat hard headed farmer...but I love him to pieces)
But in the meantime...lots and lots to do today.

And at a guess...
Children seek attention. If they can't get it for being good they know that they can get it for being bad.
They also tend to demand attention when something is going wrong.
And when parents come along like an overwhelming force to deal with the poor behavior the child feels in control again. (when something else out of their control is happening in their lives)
Children of course don't have the cognitive skills to explain or express all of this. (I know lots of grown adults that can't either even though they have the skills... supposedly)
So...since you are dealing with a person, the shortest path is not a straight line to get the answers you seek for the behavior the child is demonstrating.
Also... negative rewards and reduced attention (spanking, time outs/grounding and etc) for negative behavior is almost anti-instinctual...but that's successful parenting.
You are "Daddy" to him...a force to be instantly respected and always smarter. A strong pillar of stallward in his life that holds up against any storm, anything, and anyone.
But that doesn't mean that you can't ask questions about various things going on...and bit by bit what has the tyke so upset will come out. It's probably something that upsets him that you wouldn't even think would bother you. Or it could be that a sibling placed a straw that broke the camel's back too. It can be anything.
But the divergent behavior...that's a red flag symptom that has to be dealt with. It will blow over in time...but something out of obvious sight is going on.

I've always had an extremely open relationship my son.
Yesterday, was frightening. As if it wasn't even my son.
Literally, a minute before everything began yesterday, I asked him if he was taking his basketball on the trip. He asked me if we could just buy a new one in Maryland because his didn't have enough air in it, and I said yes. Then, out of nowhere, he just morphed into a monster.
Anyhow, God knows what's going on.
I just need to be patient and let things unfold.
