"Your approach is likely to drive people away." Wrong! That is the American myth! No wonder the American style of evangelism is a washout. And American churches are dying. I think you should read Lester Roloff's great sermon on Dr Law and Dr Grace. it is well-known in serious evangelical circles. That was in the good old days when America was a strong country - strong spiritually.

Paul first focused on sin in Romans. Read Romans chapter 1.
In chapter 2 of Romans, he indicted both Jews and Gentiles. (And the moralists from both sides.)
Only in chapter 3, does he bring in Grace.

God's love is not a wishy-washy love. it is tough love! Holy love! Fiery love! The fire will burn out sin.

P.S. I believe 100% in the Gospel of Grace. I believe in the Inseparable Love of God. But I will not accept this silly 'kid-glove' approach to stubborn sinners. Let them know they are sinning. The Holy Spirit will convict them.

Some may regard the use of makup as the same sin. Then there is the hair brush and the comb. Revealing apparel, which is the praqctice of all these days it seems, even the older folks.

It seems a lot of things may be deemed as the road to damnation to many. It is less tiring to simply share the Gospel with all rather than to dilineate imprfectsions to all, that is pointing out sins, when the Gospel, when receive will drive out all sin evnetually.

Jesus reduced all of the law to "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind, and love your neighbor as yourself". We are no longer under a series of do this and don't do that, we are to take EVERYTHING to the Lord for His guidance and them walk it out.

My father had several tattoos on his arm from his days fighting in Korea.

He died when I was 16. I’m not completely sure of his Spiritual status. But I know he feared, and respected the Lord. He never went to Church, (back then the rest of the family went to a Catholic Church) , but he was a very honorable man.

I suspect he was a baby Christian his whole life.
I can’t imagine someone calling him satanic for having “mom” tattooed on his arm.

There is literally no fruit in pointing out sin in someone’s life.

Give them the Gospel, love them, and show Christ in you.

We must be careful to not drive our potential brothers and sisters away yet no whitewash what we are to do in obedience to His grace and love.

No, I don't have tattoos. Used to have my ears pierced but after my first kid was born 16 years ago, I stopped wearing earrings and the holes have grown over/back. Too dangerous with a grabby toddler and now I don't see the allure. lol.

I'm not side-tracking the issue. I was responding to what YOU said: "No, I did not say earrings are satanic! I am talking about perverse modern-day 'piercings'. Like lip-piercings, which are really terrible."

So, again, I'm asking. What's the difference in a lip piercing or ear piercing? To condone one and not the other seems hypocritical.

Yep, I know a man who went to Tijuana with his shipmates, woke up the next morning in his bunk with a tattoo on his arm.......oops!

Beautiful! I feel the same about my Dad. Also about my brother. My Dad did not attend church, nor my brother. My brother was really an ornery cuss, but if I could love him, I know God does. My father would talk about the Good Lord, and Jesus at times, not often, but he was totally reverent.

Yup. Out of all the pictures OP could have given as an example, this naked woman was chosen. I don't think the OP should be worrying about tattoos when there is, apparently, a porn issue going on. What's that verse about taking the plank out of your own eye before flicking the sliver out of your brothers?

Having said that, and recommending against getting them, we have to be careful not to alienate those in the world we want to reach the Gospel with, and baby Christians just starting to walk with this type of legalism.

I don't think anyone is advocating that getting a tattoo prevents one from being saved. This is a Christian discussion board. I think the discussion is whether or not Christians should get tattoos.

Being against tattoos is not legalism anymore than being against prostitution is legalism.

I'm curious if there's a difference in getting a tattoo for modern day "reasons" and getting one "for the dead".

Any law that does not contain mercy, justice and faith may be consideredd das fulfilled. All laws with these principles make up the two great laws of Love. I learned this from the teaching in the Word of Jesus-Yeshua.

The point she made is true. Piercing of any kind is not acceptable to God. Just because the world community accepts something does not change God's truth.

Praise God He forgives us of our stubbornness, and at times ignorance as we pursue our work to be Christlike in this fallen world!

There are many things we do from moment to moment that are not inspired by the Holy Spirit. Did you just scratch your head? Blow your nose? Burp or worse?
Did you forget to go help widows and orphans todaay?
did you make your bed or no?
Are you wearing clothes that do not fit?
Did you speed up on a yellow ight?
Did you avoid a person looking needy duringt yur walk to anywhere ?
I know I have been guilty of many of these things, but not condemned for it. Nor convicted fror I act in faith and do in faith.
As already posted, pierced ears seem to be acceptabl e for many today. Lots of make-up for others. Plastic surgery for vanity's sake. So much more.
Guess what, all forgiveabe, but not if done without faith. I know ou will pick on one thing or another I have posted here, so be my guest.

Jesus stated ALL things have become new in Him, we have trouble today understanding that ALL means ALL.
Today we are to take ALL things to Him for His guidance, and NOT lean on our own understanding. Way too often do we cherry pick a verse or two to support what we want.
Jesus never told anyone to get a tattoo, we were bought with a price, we are to honor Him with and in our bodies.
