I could have posted this in other forums; however, due to the way I worded #4 in the list below, I decided to post it in this forum.

Having been asked in a PM what things I thought unnecessarily complicate life, this was my answer:

1) Having a lot of "stuff" - which may be okay if you own enough land and have a place to put it all in an organized way - otherwise, it can become a "ball and chain" situation.

2) Getting too "involved" with modern technology - which can "take over your life" if you are not careful.

3) Listening too much to the "talking heads" of the MSM - which will have the tendancy to lock you into their 'narrative' - robbing you of the "living out" of your own life.

4) Not holding yourself to your own priorities with regard to the relationships you have with others - especially when looking for a 'mate'. (I wrote it like this because I believe in and prefer the idea of 'courting' rather than 'dating' - which is more complicated in-of-itself than courting.)

~

After thinking about it a bit more, I decided this topic was worthy of starting a thread.

What can you add to this list?

Not being able to say NO to other people's requests

Being concerned with what other people think of you (if you knew how infrequently they think of you, you'd stop worrying about this)

Not pre-planning your response / standards - this is one I picked up from freedom of simplicity but and the idea that if you make a broad reaching rule ( I think his example was of setting Sunday nights aside for family time) then when opportunities come along that would violate that rule you've already made the decision. From a singles perspective it could be rules about how you conduct yourself on dates and maybe some timetables for how quickly you are willing to deepen the intimacy (or for us more reluctant / indecisive types we may need to make a rule about how long we string someone along before we decide if we're going to serious go for this and try to make it work or not). You don't want to wait until you're in the middle of an emotionally frought situation to think about these things and have to make such important decisions quickly.

Will you marry me? NO
May I speak to the owner of the house NO
Can I book a time to see you COMPUTER SAYS NO

ah the no word. Two little letters. so haaaard to say

Cure for thinking that people are thinking of you is reading Bridget Jones diary in which she thinks of nothing but herself.

well last one I did make list or rules for life but people just took the mickey out of it and kept trying to break them. I think a sensible rule was say at a meeting you say you have to leave at 9pm before everyone starts getting drunk and gossiping even if its just over cups of tea. Then you go woah look at the time and make your exit.

Watching the news - ANY news - complicates life a lot. All conservative AND liberal news platforms currently and enthusiastically practice what they used to call yellow dog journalism.

Do you know why nobody believed the news about how serious covid is? Because they've been crying wolf for so many years that we thought they were just doing it again.

(Comes with an ad at the end, just stop the clip when it should have ended.)

Conspiracy theories actively complicate everything by design. Nothing is simple. Everything must be part of some grand scheme to kill or control us.

Also the internet. Life was way simpler before the internet was everywhere and all the knowledge of the world was available every minute of every day to everyone. Also how much "knowledge" has been created (I'm looking at you ubiquitous top ten lists) just for the sake of gaining an audience on the internet?

You beat me to it; I was going to say, "Taxes".

Weeds.

I spent several hours this weekend removing one weed from my garden. I'm reminded of the Veggie Tales episode....

Tiny coffee scoops.

The things are 1/8th cup. Grandma uses four scoops for a pot of coffee. Why not just use a half cup measure?

ecclesiastes

something about theres nothing new under the sun
or...of making many books there is no end, and much studying is wearing to the flesh.

Blame God? He's the one who made the original top 10 list. The 10 commandments.
