NOTE: This isn't about whether dating is right or wrong. This is just for people who believe in the concept of dating in order to find a suitable partner.

I get what your saying Gabe. I would not say *afraid* is the correct word I would use to talk about my situation. I would say, guarded. VERY guarded. (not to beat a dead horse....) but, I am a package deal. What I do affects my kiddos. Dating as a single parent is not the same on ANY level. Sometimes I do wonder if it is worth it?
I guess if the right guy were to come along, then I would see through the experience that it is worth is?

I don't blame you, Grace. Your kids come first. I pray that God brings a caring and above all trustworthy man in your life.

Not afraid...it's just that sometimes, when we know that it's time for huge changes in our lives and we are prayerfully seeking direction, it's a distraction.

I'm afraid it might be a distraction from schoolwork or that I might not be a good enough boyfriend. I also feel like I need to grow more as a Christian before I enter a relationship with another Christian.

There is an element of fear in me, I suppose, but that's more a fear of what wiould happen to me if I fell for her. I've seen what it does to many a man, and I don't like what I see (eg. ignoring friends, losing faculty of reason and perspective etc.)

As for courting itself, it's more that I simply have a low tolerance for women. That is, I can enjoy their company when it is distilled by other male companions, but I wouldn't want to be left alone with one for any extended amount of time, especially if there were a social obligation to make conversation, as would be the case on a 'date'.

I'm not afraid to date. I can't be bothered and gave up on it.

There's a drought of quality women in this country and they won't settle for Mr Average. A lot of them are quite full of themselves and have a long list of boxes that no man could ever hope to completely tick. I wouldn't rate my chances to be very high even if I did want to date.

I will say 'yes'.

At one point all I could ever think of was being a good father and a husband. But now I see, if I was one back then, I wouldn't have stood a chance against the the challenges that comes with a wife and kids. Being single allows me to grow and serve others, as well as God.

But why I'm afraid of dating?

The answer would plainly be that I am not ready. *shrugs*

I am. Not sure why. Fear of losing focus maybe.

Me myself, I'm afraid to date just because I'm afraid of getting hurt or left. Recently i've been finding myself being left by those who love me. & I don't want to continue to go through that with others. Its hard enough to watch my own family leave, I don't think I can handle it if I get close to someone i'm dating. Love hurts, I've found myself falling for a guy, and then its over. I recently had a break up, out of a 4 month relationship, it wasn't that long. but it still hurt. I'm staring to realize that God is all I need, I need to focus on him because he'll never just get up and leave me! He is the perfect love and the best love I can get! Praise be to God!

I fear dating for the same reason I fear a large meteor landing on my head.
