Are you kidding me? Who can afford two wives?
I am not a scripture- wise sir but this is how I understood it
..
third fold could be the Holy Spirit who has bound the man and the woman in oneness (marriage) making it God the center of the marriage... It is like God,the wife and the husband(threefold cord)

I was trying to ironically point out that this scripture was not necessarily about marriage, while also pointing out that doubling down on the difficulties of marriage would be crazy. Apparently my humor did not connect, but at least someone is trying. :)However, I do kinda like your application of the threefold cord to marriage with the involvement of god. So much for my polygamous ambitions.

Haha, I meant to say stumbling block but didn't notice my typo till now.
Actually I didn't even notice that. I think my brain auto-filled.

I was in fact agreeing with the sentiment expressed, because I often express it myself. In fact... If I were the suspicious type I might suspect you stole it from me, and charge you royalties.

even if you could afford it they would probably end up fighting. Rachel and Leah anybody? Hannah and Penniah (wasnt she a big bully to Hannah?) Sarah and Hagar?
I think the Bible says every husband has to have their own wife, and every wife her own husband...not sharing.
even requirments for a bishop are you have to have only ONE wife.

Yeah, I think about those men in the OT, and I think I get why having more than one wife would seem appealing... at least at first. I've never spoken to any modern day polygamists; but I suspect t they might have regrets.

Well I think it kinda goes that in the modern west polygamy is officially outlawed and so ridiculously easy to avoid because divorce, affairs, and cohabitation are all pretty widely accepted. Multiple wives isn't allowed but we're trying really hard to live and sell the idea of consequence free sex so what would you need multiple wives for?

In places where polygamy is still common (or its close cousin of having an actual social role of a mistress) well women's rights tend to be rather abysmal so the men don't have so much to regret except maybe the contentious households they create. But like old testament culture those cultures are very different from our own (and with western influence the attitudes of the young people are changing rapidly and not always for the better).

I met a beautiful woman yesterday. She looked amazing; she had this long dirty-blonde hair, a nice smile, blah-blah-blah. Of course she has these tight pants on, because that's what they do.

We're stuck in the same room, so we get talking and she was like "you married/ have kids?" and I was like "nope. not really interested in that at the moment" and she was like "DONT GET MARRIED IT"S A WASTE OF TIME!"

It's those little moments, when I think... You know what, it's good to be single. Praise the Lord.

I approve of this thread. Five Stars!

I wasn't ready for someone to evoke the 90's like that, you've got to warn people!

I might have understood that video when it came out if it wasn't so creepy looking. It's legit though; there are so many people in this world, attractive people that look and act happily married... until they don't. I definitely pray for them and hope things change for them; the Lord can restore them; but I'm glad that it's not me. I have some problems of my own design, but that isn't one of them. Loneliness or any kind of incompleteness or envy towards married people, I don't remember any better than Ace of Base- which I had almost forgotten about, until now.

When you hear a preacher that is exalting marriage as something higher than what it really is; trying to get their Sunday schools filled out, sometimes you need a reminder that it's not always what it's cracked up to be. Or if it's not a preacher it's some married person talking about "Look, I have a wife and kids, see how much more I have going on in my life?" But outside of church and their Sunday-best, it's not all smiles. Like Paul says, even Christians will have their struggles. So, unless a marriage is going to somehow make my walk with god better, where is the necessity?

lol. WARNING: kinda may post 90's music videos. The sisters in Ace of Base have Christian songs, also, I think The Sign has some religious meanings.

This made me chuckle. It would be a good reminder of why being single isn't so bad. So much can be learned with so little being said.

Of course my curiosity would want me to know why she has that outlook.

I'm the same way, but I've learned to pray rather than pry into a dumpster fire. I'm also not good for people that just want sympathy and for you to take their side and feel bad for them. Sometimes, I also think I'm better off not knowing how some people are- I once had a woman complain that her husband wouldn't stop being angry at her for kissing another man, and it wasn't fair. When I asked why she kissed another man, she told me that it wasn't consensual an the man kissed her. So, I asked what her husband said when she told him that it wasn't consensual. Apparently she didn't think it was important to share that fact with him... For a brief moment, I gave up on the human race- and then I decided that she was lying, because no one could possibly be that stupid. That kind of drama is not worth getting drawn into.

Good golly, that’s even worse than the last story. 🤦‍♀️ I suppose there will always be the story tellers, but occasionally there is someone to learn from or a piece of information that helps with praying for them.

I would agree with you though, if a certain type of person/personality annoys or frustrates you, it’s best not to even delve into their view of things when it will sway our own moods.

I’ve never heard the “pray rather than pry”. I like it. I’ll remember this, though may not be good at it. I like to understand people if possible, but also believe praying is often the best help we can be.
Thanks for sharing.

hmm I dont know any polygamists personally.
Probably have met a few adulterers though, I dont tend to be friends with them.....

Apparently some men do think its ok to have wives in different countries though. I dont want to know really thats THEIR problem they have to sort out when it all blows up in their face.

Well, I do know some happy stories too. Last year I met a catholic lady that came to help at my work. When the subject of kids came up I found out she had 10 kids all by the same man! That's something to praise god for- I didn't even know something like that existed anymore. And she's out there working harder than some 20 year olds to keep her household going. I'm not sure that I would ever go for 10... that's a little lofty, but I was definitely inspired.

I once stayed on a farm with a somehwat fundamentalist christian family that had 10 daughters and 1 son. They werent all there at the same time but they seemed happy.

If you live in a farm thats what happens because your children are your free labour. but thing was they were still advertising for wwoofers so maybe it wasnt enough.

I dunno... I have seen some families that ARE what it's cracked up to be. Mine, for example. Some of my good friends also found good spouses and they love each other. So I know it is possible to find.

It's not something I would pursue at the expense of all the rest of my life though. It's certainly not something I would consider my life a failure without. And it's DEFINITELY not something I would want to put up with the wrong kind of partner for, just for the sake of holding onto "a relationship."
