If smoking ciggerettes was around at the time of Jesus would it have been classed a sin

What if I want to have sex with my neighbor's wife and I have faith that there's nothing wrong with it so long as I don't broadcast it to others with a "weak conscience." After all, Romans 14:14 says: "I know and am persuaded in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself, but it is unclean for anyone who thinks it unclean." What would be wrong with that?
very good @ResidentAlien, which proves that things that are clean can become unclean, yes like sex between a married couple is considered clean, but obviously sex committed in adultery is considered unclean, this is the name for nictotine there may be other uses for nicotine considered totaly clean and none addictive, but to much nictotine is considered addiction and unclean if smoked and addicted, but if we think every thing is clean no matter how we use it then where reading romans 14:14 incorrectly yes. I think this is what your saying yes

Let's have a look at Bill Johnson's "sound" doctrine from this clip.

1. First he says, the more we represent who Jesus genuinely is, the more we become desirable to the nations. Jesus said: "If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you." The "Jesus" Johnson represents is another Jesus.

2. Next he does a clever conflation of two scriptures that have nothing to do with each other. First, John 3:8: "The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil." Then he quickly quotes John 20:21 to make it sound like they are somehow related: "As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you." This makes it sound like our job is to go out and defeat the works of the devil. However, that's not our job; our job is to preach Christ, who Himself has defeated the works of the devil.

3. Then he says God's will for us is to heal the sick, raise the dead, cast out devil, etc. What did Jesus say about this in John 16:29: "Jesus answered them, 'This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.' " Back in December of 2019, there was a high-profile case of a young girl named Olive, who folks at Bill Johnson's church (Bethel in Redding, California) prayed over for several days trying to raise her from the dead, but failed. Bethel Redding also has a ministry where that's all they do is go around praying for resurrections. To date they don't have one single verifiable resurrection.

That's all I have the stomach for. It's only a minute and a half in and he's told so many lies I can hardly keep up.
There is no doubt that Jesus is one who defeated the works of Satan brother, and for this we should give him all the credit for that, and thus what ever work and wisdom we do that destroys the works of the devil also comes from Jesus, We can not forget tho that wisdom will destroy the works of the devil, and we can use that wisdom in the same way Jesus has to destroy the works of the devil on a daily basis. We also have to understand the whole Gospel is related to defeating the works of the devil, so we see a passage and an instruction in one part of the bible to preach the Gospel, we have to join that part of the Gospel with Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil, yes. You know the main teachings of the whole Gospel is for me related to destroying the works of the devil and healing the sick, So you know brother just by preaching the Gospel we carry the will of Jesus to destroy the works of the devil and heal the sick yes. This is beautiful to me, and to me this is light that truly shines.

We must not forget that death also has a stench, and what was used on Jesus to overcome the stench of death, well it certainly wasn't the smell of nicotine it was nard (lavender fragrance).

Or in the Old Testament, it was the fresh smell of cinnamon and other nice fragrances that healed
but the fresh smell of fragrances was not just to over come death after life. but death whilst we we are alive and have the life. and again it certanly wasnt the stench of nicotine

Exodus 30:22-29
The Lord said to Moses, “Take the finest spices: of liquid myrrh 500 shekels, and of sweet-smelling cinnamon half as much, that is, 250, and 250 of aromatic cane, and 500 of cassia, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, and a hin of olive oil. And you shall make of these a sacred anointing oil blended as by the perfumer; it shall be a holy anointing oil. With it you shall anoint the tent of meeting and the ark of the testimony,

Here brother we see theese fresh smelling fragrances being called holy anointing oil to, which means many wonderful things. and many wonderful purposes along with lavender oil to.

(the temple your body you bind on earth will be loosed in heaven) meaning you recieve from heaven so much better in body when you keep your body undefiled the rewards are great.

mathew 16:19
I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.

The work you do on earth will always be blessed and backed up by heaven, but one needs a clean temple for this, moody loose works from addiction will not be backed up by heaven.

Hi again to all you beautiful Christians, blessings to you all,

A humble experience

It's been a while now since I last replied to this thread, I think God sent one of his Jonah arks to take my mind to a better place :). Today is now day 28 without a cigarette woppee and I can tell you more of my experience, which i feel is really encouraging and beneficial for the temple.

Firstly beautiful Christians please take time to pray for me, tomorrow is the first day without a nicotine patch, Just to recap how I have quit so far, for my first two weeks i did 14 ml strength patches, and for my last two weeks i did 7ml patches the guidelines is at least 6 weeks on patches, and I've cut it to 4 weeks, tomorrow I will not have any patches. If I make it through the next week, then there's a very good chance I will have won the battle against the curse of nicotine. Please could you say a little prayer for me thank-you,

Ok now please accept and believe that my intentions is to be caring and not judging anyone who smokes or drinks, all tho we are told that drunkards will not inherit the kingdom of God, all tho there's more to it than just one phrase, as drunkards can also be redeemed. People may look at the passage that says drunkards will not inherit the kingdom of God and only see one thing, or one point of view. The kingdom of God is also the Body being a temple in heaven and on earth, us, in the sense that when the temple is clean the will of our mighty father is an immediate decision within the believer to believe they must not get drunk and stay of sober mind:). Believe is the key word here that if you just have a little of wine you will not get drunk. Believing is also something Jesus said is very important to your faith, and your spiritual awareness, If we choose not to believe this then our faith and temple (Kingdom of God can become effected), The will power of the believer is a part of their faith and temple, the will power of the spirit is needed to run at full strength to overcome temptation and the fiery darts of our enemy the devil, The will power is also something that can reach amazing strength, that when you make a decision to do something the decision is immediate and fulfilling, Will power strength is amazing. Like your nos become no and your yeses become yes, instantly with conviction to carry your decision-making into full reality. Like today, I will not argue, full stop. Today I will not have a religious argument full stop,

Today I will fast, full stop. Today I will not smoke. Today insults will not effect me.
Today my temple is clean, today my temple will stay clean forever.

Sadly tho when an addictive substance controls your mood and nature, sadly your will power gets effected to, (the chance of you repaying evil with evil is higher) the fruits of the spirit get effected if just one is weekend, this is my experience so far. I've noticed my will power and other fruits of the spirit has become stronger. So much so that insults no longer bothers me, this is wonderful because insults are the works of the devil. This is also Good for a public chat site because you will come across people who resort to insulting behaviour. its always best to have will power not to engage back and not take the bait. Its so wonderful that will power can imeadiately help a person to imeadiately over come insults or upset, and will power can combine with that wonderful fruit called kindness. Will power can also combine with love in the believer which imeadiately tells you your loved by God not hated.

This needs to be understood clearly in order for smokers to quit I believe this strongly, we need to offer our bodies as living stones every day to kingdom of God, When we read the scriptures that say we need to offer our body as a living sacrifice to God, we also need to offer a clean body so that our body can have full power of the fruits of the spirit to be that living Jewel that shines in full strength, with all the fruits of the spirit (most needed to carry the will Of Jesus too), which is to destroy the works of the devil. The offering of a living sacrifice to the kingdom of God is also to offer your body as living Jewels, Free from very powerful addictive deceasing drugs like nicotine, because whilst nicotine is addictive it is also deceasing, and it is immediate deceasing even after just your very first cigarette it pollutes the body.

Bye bye folks see you in the future maybe next week, i will see loads of encouragement to this post from heaven because that is when i will be back, im of camping for a weak :)

It was a bit distressful for me when I stopped using the nicotine lozenges and went totally nicotine free and smoke free. I will offer a prayer for God to ease your discomfort and to provide healing.

in Jesus time I dont know if they would have been so wasteful of matches or fire

Like people are today, also cigarettes are expensive.
The other thing to realise is growing tobacco is quite labour intensive.

even marijuana is not the easiest plant to grow it requires certain conditions, and these days people put all sorts of chemicals, pesticides and herbicides to have a crop.

Thank-you, for your prayers, and it's good to know we have good brothers like you here despite some of our disagreements you still remain friendly and humble which I like about you, well it's been 12 days now without any nicotine whatsoever and almost 6 weeks without puffing on a cigarette, and it seems to be getting easier now. I'm starting a new thread, of which some of it will be related to this thread and others, kinda of like a summary of all the threads I have written up to now.

So glad to hear you are holding strong.
I'm having a really really bad asthmatic episode combined with allergies,so I've decided to quit also.
My Dr. prescribed me Wellbutrin which cuts the craving for nicotine.
Patches won't stay on and gum sticks to teeth.
I'm proud that you are persevering!

Hope you make it found some proffessional advice here

People breathe more easily and cough less when they give up smoking because their lung capacity improves by up to 10% within 9 months.

In your 20s and 30s, the effect of smoking on your lung capacity may not be noticeable until you go for a run, but lung capacity naturally diminishes with age.

Stopping smoking improves smell and taste
When you stop smoking, your senses of smell and taste get a boost.

You may notice that food tastes and smells different as your mouth and nose recover from being dulled by the hundreds of toxic chemicals found in cigarettes.

Stop smoking for younger-looking skin
Stopping smoking has been found to slow facial ageing and delay the appearance of wrinkles.

The skin of a non-smoker gets more nutrients, including oxygen, and stopping smoking can reverse the sallow, lined complexion smokers often have.

Ex-smokers have whiter teeth and sweeter breath
Giving up tobacco stops teeth becoming stained, and you'll have fresher breath.

Ex-smokers are also less likely than smokers to get gum disease and prematurely lose their teeth.

Quit smoking to live longer
Half of all long-term smokers die early from smoking-related diseases, including heart disease lung cancer and chronic bronchitus

Men who quit smoking by the age of 30 add 10 years to their life. People who kick the habit at 60 add 3 years to their life.

In other words, it's never too late to benefit from stopping. Being smoke-free not only adds years to your life, but also greatly improves your chances of a disease-free, mobile, happier old age.

A smoke-free home protects your loved ones
By stopping smoking, you'll be protecting the health of your non-smoking friends and family, too.

Breathing in secondhand smoke increases the risk of lung cancer, heart disease and stroke

In children, it doubles the risk of getting chest illnesses, including pneumonia, ear infections wheezing and astma

They also have 3 times the risk of getting lung cancer in later life compared with children who live with non-smokers.

hi again mate ive found out of all the aids to quit patches are the best, did you try holdin and pressing on the patch for five minutes on the side of your upper arm befor letting go to make it stick better, and also there is a fold line that needs to point upwards and not cross ways when you stick the patch on youll notice a fold line, just make sure its pointing upwards, one thing tho will warn you that if you smoke just one cig whilst on patches it gets really hard.

We must not defile the body because it is also intended for the residence of God by the Holy Spirit.

@peldom10 Would you say defiling your body is a sin ?

I had a look at scripture that says human suffering is something a demon likes to cause.

But what is missing is to what extent will a demon go to, to cause human suffering.

Only to the degree that is allowed by God and His plan.

Perhaps you should read the life story of Charles Spurgeon, one of the most famous preachers in history. At the age of 23, he preached to a crowd of 23,000 people. He smoked. God is far less concerned with what goes in through the mouth than what comes out. Judgemental, critical, unloving, harsh and self righteous pronouncements anger God far more than smoking.

Smoking does not affect the senses. Smokers can perform tasks, remember, think, feel and decide just as well as anyone else. I hasten to add that I am not, and I never have been, a smoker. My parents smoked. Some of my good friends were smokers. They gave up late in life. I would not advocate for smoking. It's not much fun for non-smokers and it's a waste of money. But it is nowhere near as bad as what you have not mentioned, alchohol and mind altering drugs.

It's easy to judge people. Smokers have as hard a time giving up as heroin addicts trying to quit. I know this because I was a part time volunteer with Teen Challenge for a year or so. The subject was discussed reasonably often.
Thank you for this post. People who are addicted to nicotine need all the help and encouragement they can get.

Nicotine is the most wonderful tranquilizer of any, the problem is that the way it soothes is gone in a flash and it becomes an irritant that can only be soothed by more nicotine. It makes the body crave nicotine.

I sincerely quit smoking at least 5,200 times, every night for over 20 hears, and started smoking that many times for my prayer life was taken up with a plea to be rid of the addiction. When I finally rid myself of it, it was because I had so overindulged a night I was so upset I back to back smoked. (The doctor had misdiagnosed by husband as being terminally ill) I landed in the hospital with nicotine poisoning.

I don't think there is any doubt smoking is no way to grow spiritually. Our body is a temple of God, not to be damaged with such smelly things. But our way of handling the addiction can be worse than the addiction itself.
