Proverbs 28:27 Whoever gives to the poor will lack nothing, but those who close their eyes to poverty will be cursed.

does that still apply today? will u lack nothing if you give?

will you be cursed if you dont give? ive seen things happen to people who dont give if someone asks them

I don't think that you would be cursed but rather just a lost opportunity to minister to the least of your brothers and sisters for the Lord.

Lost opportunities is one thing but complete willing neglect is another thing altogether. Yes, that proverb still applies, otherwise it would not be a proverb which is timely wise spiritual counsel for the ages.

Context is king when formulating hermeneutics. Hermeneutics is the blending of art and science to decipher the scriptures to understand what they are saying.

And the book of Proverbs is a collection of wise sayings like "a penny saved is a penny earned".

This proverb is a bit of witty wisdom that is much more pithy in Hebrew than English. But it's a bit about being too stingy and having appropriate attitudes about money.
Meaning that budgeted giving should be included in any household budget.

If you don't budget giving... you aren't doing things correctly. The training wheels of giving is 10% of your monthly income. And believe it or not...that giving also creates an attitude that allows saving...which allows you to accumulate wealth. It also allows you to be generous with your friends. Because everyone asks for money but few are deserving...and getting to actually know how and for what people use their money on (what they value) will allow you to make great friendships... leading to an extremely rich and full life.

This is anything but flipping a $5 bill to the beggar on the corner and hoping he won't buy drugs or alcohol. This is much different than that.

Proverbs 14:15 says: "The simple believes everything, but the prudent gives thought to his steps."

Yes we should give to the poor and help our neighbors. If we see a genuine need, and have the ability to help, then help. I'm cautious about giving to people who beg though; there are a lot of professional beggars out there.

I believe the verse you posted. You might be cursed, I don't know. The New Testament makes it plain: those who sow sparingly will reap sparingly. Reaping sparingly might be a kind of curse.

Al scripture is truth. The only change that God made to scripture was when God gave us the Holy Spirit so we are led to God's ways by the heart instead of fleshly commands. God is spirit not flesh.

When Christ came, Christ brought the kingdom of heaven. There are 128 times in the gospels and Acts that this kingdom is explained. We live in the kingdom of the world as strangers and sojourners, our true kingdom is the kingdom of heaven, our home territory is heaven not earth that is only temporary. Demons rule the world, Christ rules the kingdom of heaven.

The world contains beautiful cars, jewelry, entertainment, and pride. The kingdom of heaven contains deep waters, contentment, eternal life, joy, and charity.

I don't believe this proverb is necessarily talking about monetary gain, such as the person who gives to the poor will be rich one day, or that the stingy rich man will be poor one day, etc. I believe this verse is saying that the giving person will have joy and contentment, whereas the stingy person will be cursed in that he won't experience such joy and may even be miserable (like Scrooge) despite his wealth.

I don’t think that is an accurate number. 10% was what the tribes had to donate to the Levites. The Levites had no inheritance. It was their job to look after the synagogues and such. It’s not because they were “poor”. My goodness, there’s a bunch of methheads around my city all homeless breaking into cars and sheds, stealing everything. You want to give them your hard earned money? I think times have changed. We pay 40% of our wages towards taxes. These taxes go to social programs like welfare, disability, healthcare, old age pension and employment insurance. I think I’m covered. That won’t stop me from paying for someone’s groceries if the Lord leads, but as far as habitual giving, I don’t feel obligated to keep the poor fed because of poor life choices. Some times natural consequence needs to play it’s part.

From what I have learned.. simply handing someone some money may make us feel good yet according to the word if your truly helping them you don't stop. You keep helping till they are back on their feet. Never seen in my life or any others something happening for NOT giving.. HE died for ever curse. Nothing happens.. :)

10% tithe was split up in three ways. ⅓ went to Levites, ⅓ went to the Temple and ⅓ went to the poor.

Give to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's.
What God or Caesar does with their money you gave them is their business...not yours.

no, you will not be cursed if you don't give but where your heart is so will your treasure be also.
There is a blessing in giving. Jesus said those who give will be blessed. When you have the means to help someone and you give to them in the name of the Lord it is very satisfying.

Bless the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of god.Confucius was right, give a man a fish you feed him for a day.Teach a man to fish you feed them for a life time.Help one to find god and you'll have fed them forever...Side Note: are is at a obilque angle that mean it was added? right?..So then it's not blessed are?,,what do people think?

That it's double translated Aramaic Poetry.
Yes it was added but implied. There aren't many "be" verbs in Aramaic or Greek. Their grammar is different than ours.

I could read the Greek at like a second grade level and just bearly the Hebrew.I Personaly i think it's wrong in the Grammer way,,,but still true! just like blessed r those that blessed the meek for example,,but it's also true that the meek are blessed.I won't say for sure for sure,,but i think firstly that the new testament was first in the Greek of the common people of that time.,,um!! except for a few foreign words

Deu 28:3 and more
Blessed in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field.
Blessed will be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep.
Blessed will be thy basket and thy store.
Blessed you will be when you go in, and blessed you will be when thou go out.
