Phl 1:6, Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

Rom 11:20, Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:
Rom 11:21, For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.
Rom 11:22, Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.

Heb 11:29, By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned.

In Philippians 1:6, we find that there is a faith that we can have, that translates into a confidence that He who began a good work in us will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.

While in Romans 11:20-22, we are told not to be highminded but to fear; because there were those who fell because of unbelief and if we do not continue in His goodness, we also will be cut off.

What is the difference between being confident in the Lord that He will complete His work in you and being highminded about your position in Christ?

In Hebrews 11:29, the Israelites passed through the sea as by dry land through faith; while the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned.

The Israelites had faith; while the Egyptians presumptuously assumed that because the Israelites did it, so could they.

The Egyptians were confident in themselves while the confidence of the Israelites was in the Lord.

There are those who presumptuously assume that verses in the Bible that are about eternal security apply to them; but they do not realize that such verses do not apply to them unless they are of the kind to heed the warnings against falling away.

In Hebrews 6, near the end of the chapter, it is written that we have this hope as an anchor of the soul, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us.

If you have not fled to the Lord for refuge, then do not presume that He is going to keep your soul when the going gets rough.

It is set forth that faith in Jesus means, to a certain extent, holding on.

Act 11:22, Then tidings of these things came unto the ears of the church which was in Jerusalem: and they sent forth Barnabas, that he should go as far as Antioch.
Act 11:23, Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord.

Barnabas encourage the church in Antioch to cleave unto the Lord.

This means that they would seek to become one with Jesus and would hold on to Him tightly.

This is what it means to have faith in Jesus.

There are some who think that they have bought fire insurance by believing certain promises which do not apply to them.

For this is what Jesus said,

Mat 7:21, Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Mat 7:22, Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
Mat 7:23, And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Is Jesus here pronouncing salvation by works?

No, he is telling us that if anyone is truly born again, they will have a changed heart and that this will result in them doing the will of the Father.

Forgive me for being literal, I take Philippians 1:6 as an exhortation and Romans 11:20 as an admonition, but boy howdy did I think of a bunch scripture on the presentation of the thread.
Thank you, the Bible says a lot about it.

Paul addresses the high-minded as well in Philippians 2:3, 2:21, and where the confidence isn't, in Philippians 3:3, and for me in Romans 11, you have to back up and begin at Romans 9, where Paul's sorrows are and in Romans 10 of their self righteous works.

Which takes me to Matthew 23:13 in Jesus's rebuke to them that did not enter themselves and wouldn't suffer those that would, and with that in mind, Paul's addresses it also in 2 Corinthians 10:7-18, and so much more on it, but what I really like here is.....

Ephesians 4:13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

Ephesians 4:14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

Ephesians 4:15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

Ephesians 4:16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

with God all things are possible!!!

If we have true and complete faith i Jesus, we will have faith in acting as Jesus tells us to act, but sometimes our flesh gets in the way. As am example, Jesus tells us to love our enemies and do good things for them, and flesh tells us to protect ourselves and fight for our rights,

I was told to act as if we believed in following Jesus, even if my flesh was yelling at me to not do that. One lady had to live with her mother-in-law and it was a constant battle. Someone convinced her to act as if she loved her, even if she didn't. As a result, her enemy turning into a beloved mother-in-law.

So to advance the point do you think Christians hearing that part of the message is part of what causes repentance ?

Along with of course all the good promises made by the lord ? Sort of grace and also truth side by side ?

By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭16:6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

so coming from what you quoted there and that day

“But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.”
‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭3:7, 9-11, 13-14‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Doesnt the more of the message like that , that we allow to be true in our belief cause our faith to grow and lead us to maturity in your thinking ? ( just asking if you think doctrine shapes faith)

“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭5:10‬ ‭KJV‬‬

If I live every day believing that , It seems , I’m going to live a better life with a more sober eye on my own actions and deeds and words also if I allow that type of understanding into my daily life.

But if I don’t believe that I ever have to answer for my own deeds , my faith is going to be very different and guide my life very differently and it seems I might never come to repentance with only allowing that message .

Just wanted your observation on these few things do you think hearing about Gods forgiveness for us through Christs atonement , should be accompanied equally with the rest of the gospel ? Eternal judgement there but also repentance , right judgement and decision making , loving others in truth , as Christ taught his disciples to live and treat others ?

Do you think what we hear and believe is what shapes our faith as we go through life ?

sounds like we have found some agreement

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent?

as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭10:13-17‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Therefore my people shall know my name: therefore they shall know in that day that I am he that doth speak: behold, it is I.

How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!

Behold, my servant shall deal prudently, he shall be exalted and extolled, and be very high. As many were astonished at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men: So shall he sprinkle many nations; the kings shall shut their mouths at him: for that which had not been told them shall they see; and that which they had not heard shall they consider.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭52:6-7, 13-15‬ ‭

“Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief:

when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.

He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.

Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.”

Tit 2:15, These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.

Heb 10:14, For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.
and indeed the rest of the message builds saving faith in us

“And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him; Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec. Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered,….
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭5:9-11‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“I have therefore whereof I may glory through Jesus Christ in those things which pertain to God. For I will not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ hath not wrought by me, to make the Gentiles obedient, by word and deed,”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭15:17-

“This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.”
‭‭Titus‬ ‭3:8‬ ‭KJV‬‬

when you put together the grace Jesus gives with the truth Jesus spoke you have the gospel sent into the world that teaches us about repentance and righteousness and redeems us from iniquity

“Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:

And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And ye are witnesses of these things.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭24:45-48‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; ( the gospel of the kingdom )

Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;

Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.”
‭‭Titus‬ ‭2:11-15‬ ‭KJV‬‬

through grace we stand in the light with Christ being not condemned and by trusting in and hearing the truth we are taught repentance and upright living . From faith to faith as we are able to hear and grow individually

We’re able to know more of Gods will and apply it more and more to life without being condemned and cast out for every transgression we can now repent and learn from him and abide in him by faith hearing his word and letting him create our faith by the gospel

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭1:16-17‬ ‭KJV‬‬

So one person who knows a lot and another who knows little they each have thier own relationship and standard in Christ according to faith

“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭10:17‬ ‭

“And that servant, which knew his Lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.

But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required…
‭‭Luke‬ ‭12:47-48‬ ‭KJV‬‬

as we learn more and more we need to keep in step with that in our life the more we understand in Christ the more is expected of us and the less we truly know and grasp the less is required .

I find it a comfort that we are judged now by faith and how Godnis looking at what we truly know in our mind and heart and how we live according to that law written on our heart , and how it reduces eternal judgement to the believer , And Jesus Christ thier judge.

sorry I got off track thanks for the share in the op I enjoyed the read

I haven't been here in a while and things don't seem to be working the same. Is there a relation between my experience and the reason for your "bumping?" Thanks for the heads-up if you're able.
