I've yet to meet and/or encounter a Christian who doesn't believe the
creation story is true; but I have met and/or encountered quite few who
disagree on the length of each of the creation story's six days.

Perhaps you could explain what you mean by "literal". People use the word in different senses, so it helps to know the intended sense.

The serpent was there, he was just hiding.
Gen 3:1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
The serpent was made before chp 3 so it was there in the first two chapters.

The serpent in Genesis chapter 3 was Satan. Satan was either appearing as a serpent, possessing the serpent, or deceiving Adam and Eve into believing that it was the serpent who was talking to them. Serpents / snakes do not possess the ability to speak. Revelation 12:9 and 20:2 both describe Satan as a serpent. "He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan, and bound him for a thousand years" (Revelation 20:2). "The great dragon was hurled down, that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him" (Revelation 12:9).
While the Bible is not clear as to whether or not the serpent stood up or walked before the curse, it appears likely that, like other reptiles, it probably did walk on four legs. That would seem to be the best explanation of Genesis 3:14, "So the LORD God said to the serpent, 'Because you have done this, cursed are you above all the livestock and all the wild animals! You will crawl on your belly and you will eat dust all the days of your life.'" The fact that the serpent was cursed to crawl on his belly and eat the dust of the earth forever is also a way of indicating that the serpent would be forever despised and looked upon as a vile and despicable creature and an object of scorn and contempt.

I believe that a spiritual God created our world and is trying to make us understand what we can not fully comprehend because we live in a world of the flesh and God exists in what is like a different dimension. Much of our world reflects the world of heaven, but it is impossible for us to fully understand all of creation.
God often uses earthly things we do understand to teach us a bit of the kingdom of heaven like cutting actual flesh before God spoke directly to our hearts to show marking us as His and cutting away fleshly things for such as the spirit of the law, or heavenly things.
We get a glimmer of this kingdom of heaven by studying what Christ said of the laws that govern it that are so different from the laws of the world---like loving our enemies rather than fighting for our rights.

Dr. Michael Heiser (scholar of biblical languages) offers the explanation that the 'serpent' was not a regular creature at all, but a divine entity that appears as a serpent. There is far more to the explanation, of course.

People's infatuation with the Serpent reminds me of a pastor who once said
that his congregation was more interested in the anti Christ than the real
Christ.

This would be a good question for a poll and chances are you would get 100% positive answers.
Sounds like INCOMPETENT Bible teachers if they claim that Satan existed before the creation of the cosmos. That is pure speculation and worse.
The creation account is very straightforward historical account and the Ten Commandments confirm that God created the universe in six literal 24 hour days. We do not know how much time elapsed between the first two and the third chapter.
The problem is in modern age we think How our world was created, but I think for the original readers the question was Who created this? So in creation story, We know who created everything. But we don't know how he created it. We just know a little that we human are created in his image and with mud and breath of God. If God told the original readers How He created earth, they wont understand a word, cause they were in the middle of desert and they didn't know about science much. SO it is literal or not > It had its purpose which it fulfilled. (My English is not good. sorry)
