Working on Wifey's...this one is just practice before I do this on the piece of leather I'm going to use for hers...

How long did it take you to do it?
Couple of hours... you have to do it while the leather is damp/wet in a certain window of moisture level.

I got the pattern off the internet and traced it then traced it again into the leather...then cut it and tooled it.

Tomorrow when it's dry I'm going to test a batch of dye I'll mix up to see if it works out like I hope. I like alcohol dyed to tint some neatsfoot oil I'll treat it with.
Then it's onto the real project of my wife's journal cover for her Christmas present. She got jealous of her sister's I had made. So we can't have that happen now can we?

I like to practice a pattern before I do it "for the money"...lets me see all the nuances I've got to work around and deal with. So I can adjust my work...next time I'll work on getting the darker parts of the letter a tad thinner...that ought to be the biggest concern...and as always a bit smoother on the curves.

Of course, the most difficult part is producing the final result such that each sister believes her journal cover is the "most pretty best made" of the two... ;) :D
