Is that what todays makeup is made of or made like? I have no knowledge of theatre or acting, so I have no clue of how todays cosmetics or make up differs from what the Egyptians wore back in 4000 BC. However, it does seem like it would be different from back them.

Hey Everyone,

I was wondering what you all thought of the fashion/makeup trend that convinces women that they just have to have bigger and bigger... pairs of eyelashes.

My Mom and I went to lunch the other day (Mod Pizza! It's really good!), and one of the girls who was part of the assembly line had false lashes so bushy that they literally resembled a shag carpet.

It was a bit like this:

Unfortunately, I'm not exaggerating. Now I'm sure the girl had beautiful eyes, but I couldn't see them -- all I could see were these huge woolly caterpillars perched above her upper eyelid that would move up and down when she blinked. (I am 310% sure that there is no way they were natural, as her bottom lashes were just a thin line.) I was seriously wondering how she could even see in order to make the pizzas.

And I always wonder exactly how these trends start. I'm sure there are executives at fashion and makeup corporations who decide things like these are THE latest painful, expensive "look" that women "must" have, and then proceed to market the bajingas out of it.

I myself have extremely sensitive eyes and have never been able to hop on the false eyelash, let alone mascara or even full eye makeup bandwagon. The only time I try to wear eye makeup is maybe for church, and then I have to wash it off as soon as I get home because my eyes are burning.

And I can't help but think that men really don't notice or care about women's eyelashes all that much.

But maybe I could be wrong?

Now I'm certainly not trying to say that advertising doesn't push unrealistic ideals on both genders.

I was just curious as to how much eyelashes mattered to men (supposedly the ones we are doing this to impress,) if at all.

So how about it, everyone?

* Ladies, what do you think of the really really false false eyelash trend? Do you bother putting in the time or trouble to try it? How do you like the results?

Just to be clear, I'm in full support of anyone who likes to do a little natural enhancement (of the eyelash variety.) I would do so myself if they didn't make me feel like my eyes were on fire. The only lashes I question are the ones that are so extreme, you're wondering what kind of fuzzy creatures the woman glued on to her eyelids that morning.

I used to have a profession that crazy long lashes were required in Thankfully, someone else was putting them on me (make up artist). I tried to put some on by myself when I had an "off" day.... what a pain!

I honestly don't think men are REALLY attracted to them as much as they are attracted to what's associated with them (big, wide eyes, looking toward you begging, and affirming)

I don't even know which network or service it's on (my TV isn't hooked up, and I don't have any cable or streaming services,) but I've watched a lot of clips from the show "Botched" on YouTube. It's about people's plastic surgery mishaps in their quest for "perfection," and shows two plastic surgeons (the stars of the show) meeting with them and then trying to determine if they can fix or reverse the damage.

Some of the stories are absolutely horrifying, such as the woman whose previous "doctor" injected her face with industrial cement, leaving her with literal chunks all over her face.

I understand that most everyone wishes they could do a few "tweaks" (myself included, but for now, I have no intentions of getting injections or surgery,) but what's most terrifying to me are the attitudes of some of the patients.

They literally worship the way they look, spare no expense and never take no for an answer, telling the doctors, "If you won't do what I want, then I'll find someone who will."

It really makes me sad to see people in this condition, and I can't help but say a prayer for them, hoping their hearts can be softened.

One of the funniest/saddest instances is a woman who married after much plastic surgery. Their kids were ugly. The husband sued his former wife for false pretences - and won the case.

Nope. I just googled and that was an urban legend started in 2004. It became really popular in 2012 when somebody attached a picture to it. The picture was from a plastic surgery advertisement.

I went consmetics shopping for a female friend recently (she is recovering from an illness). There is nearly as much in the men's section now. She keeps giving me hand cream, which goes in a drawer, never to be seen again. Obviously a lot of men are buying this stuff. Just not me.

Many people get psychology degrees to cure their own crazy...as if that would work.

That being said, the closest to a sane person who has gotten a psych degree is my Sister-in-law...she is graduating here in December and trying to get into Art Therapy for troubled teens. I'm about positive that she is going to be poor for most of her life...but whatever. She is a nice girl. Really odd mix that my wife is her sister. They don't act a LOT alike...but whatever.

Interesting observation. A friend of mine says the same about social workers, who have messed up lives but try to help others.

I don't go to Bath & Body works to often (personally, I like the scents, but they never seem to last more than an hour and I hate having to reapply all day, and buy more in a month - to dang expensive and I know other stuff for better deals that actually last all day)
Anywho, Bath & Body works now has a full men's section, but everytime I see men in the store with women, it is the women trying to convince the man what to buy. The Men's reactions are like like they could care less that it is a "man's section"

As a guy I can verify. Any old hand lotion works when your hands get dry in winter. I don't care what it smells like or where it came from. Vaseline "Intensive Care" hand lotion in the big pump bottle is what I happened to grab last time I needed some, and it works great. And any other time of the year, when our skin is not getting dry, we don't really care enough to use hand cream.

I dont know about cosmetics though. Hand cream isnt really a cosmetic.

If its heavy duty stuff that gets off grime men will use it. Women should buy it from the car shop as it will be made of the same stuff that keeps cars smooth and shiny.

I believe wear what you are comfortable in not to create attention but to feel confident . . any Man that is worth your time should know better than to work by the sight of the eyes alone it being attracted to a woman . being equally yoked is vital in any relationship to flourish .
