I know this isn't new, but got phone call yesterday from people pretending to be from the Publishers Clearing House. Way too many red flags from the start, but I wanted to get as much info as I could before I reported them. They told me they were in Montgomery, Al & was anxious to meet me yesterday. Long story short, they wanted me to purchase a Vanilla card for $100.00. I spoke to them for over 30 minutes, they said I had won 3.5 million dollars. lol Really, I don't think so. I won a brand new Mercedes Benz too. Don't think so. They didn't however ask me for my band account number but said when I purchased the card that they would come escort me to the bank. I may be old but I"m not that dumb. What really got me at one point was they wanted to know the name of my church. No sir. I asked them what was the reason they needed to know that for? I knew, just waiting for them to say something but they just laughed it off. I got off the phone on pretense to find someone who I could borrow the $100.00 from to purchase the card. I was told to immediately to call the police dept which I did & also to go to the scam report site. I found a number & told them what happened & I've never been so bomb barded by so many phone calls from the scammers. Even though I blocked them as they called. As I said earlier, they said they were in Montgomery, Al. But the calls were coming from Kingston, Surrey, Jamaica. Funny but I've seen so many women & men being taken for what they thought were true winnings. My son looked up winnings from PCH. They say that if you get a phone call from someone pretending to be from PCH that it was a scam. PCH mails their checks to winners. I thought & thought about how people like this could live with themselves for devastating innocent people's lives. I'm really grateful that I saw the flags. I pray that anyone reading this will take extra time to keep up with their elders. One thing they didn't want me to do was to mention any of this until we (drove up to the bank) in which time if I'd not been paying attention, my life would be completely ruined & I probably would have went to prison. Who knows?

Beware of scammers for there are times they somehow use recording your voice to execute some kind of scam. I have no idea how they actually do this, but I just hang up on anyone who does not already know who is answering the phone or if they come on with something to good to be true. If ist sounds too good to be true, it is not.

Horrible

Beware this scam...someone calls you and says something is wrong with your computer. You dont know them from a bar of soap. They then ask to check you email and if you listen to them they try and convince you to do a remote view of your computer and then proceed to get all you personal details and passwords and account numbers.

Dont fall for it. Just say, Ive got your number and reporting this call to the police. Dont call again. Then hang up. If they try and call just hang up, dont even talk to them.

Oh, so true, but so many people have fallen victim to scams like this. I just wanted enough info from them to give a half decent report. My daughter in law said "Scam" hardly before I started talking to her lol.

I don't even answer calls from numbers I don't know.
If it is important they can leave a message.
No message, then it must not have been mportant.

Though, it concerns me that I have had automated voice mails from legit places call and say:
"this is a private and confidential message for xyz. If you are not xyz please hang up now."
a pause, and then the message is left. And I'm like "WOW! If is wasn't person xyz then they just left 'personal & confidential' message with any random person

This is one of my favorite videos of a scammer being scammed back:

I notice nearly every video I've seen they say "officer will be there in 45 minutes" and these are in several different states.

Another fun one......
she throws questions to the scammer that leave long pauses,
guess their scripts weren't prepared for some questions
