There is a battle between Israel and the Philistines who killed 4000 men. The Jews don’t understand why God let them be defeated. So the next day they decide to take with them the Ark of God’s covenant. The two sons of Eli are present. Once again the Jews are defeated: this time the Philistines killed 30 000 men. They also captured the Ark and the two sons of Eli are killed. When he gets the news, Eli falls and dies.


That’s the traditional chorus in the Bible: when Israel forgets the covenant with God, they are struck, when they follow it, they win. The problem is that most of the time, they don’t follow it! After a long period of time and the misbehavior of Israel, the Jews lose God’s approval. End of the story! And this modern world follows the same pattern! We had two world wars and now scientists have been warning the world leaders but they don’t care! Same chorus! The so called human authorities always start to act when it’s too late. But God’s patience has its limit: he won’t let them destroy his Earth we are just renting!

What about the kings of Israel and Judah? All the kings of Israel were bad so it’s easy to understand that the bad example of the father was followed by the son again and again. What about the kings of Judah? Some were better kings because the good example of the father was followed by the son. There is one case when a son became a king when he was young. We can imagine that his mother has a good influence on him as his father was a bad king.

The Ark can be equated to the Lord, God Himself.

The two sons of Eli were wicked: Hophni and Phinehas.

When the Ark was captured, we could say that God was captured.

And who entered into battle with the Ark? Yes, Eli's two wicked sons.

Could this be a future image of the captured Christ on the cross with two evil men also on each side of Him? The two next to Christ died as did Hophni and Phinehas, but the Ark would be revived and brought back home, just as was our Lord and Savoir, Jesus Christ.

It's a stretch . . . but something interesting to think about and consider. :)

There are so many bad examples in the Bible that when you get a good one you sip it like a good coffee or tea or whatever you appreciate. And with the bad ones you get used to them. But when you put the whole together it makes sense.

If we compare the two cases there is a slight difference. Eli's sons didn't repent but in the case of the two men who died with Jesus one spoke abusively to him but the other one took his defense and he asked Jesus to remember him and he was heard by him (Luke 23).

That's a pretty big difference. :)

However, in most of the Living Allegories of the Bible, none of them are exact spitting images of the other.

Again, I think that my comparison, here, was a bit of a stretch.

I am not sure I agree here...one we are told in revelation that death will .com on pale horse given 1/4 of people to kill off as it pleases. This could be a quarter of whose left after the first three horsemen plough though or it could be death choosing to which horse they might fall. Of course this is likely not literal horsemen, but however the death occurs this is like 2 billion people wiped out by famine, war, etc. This might not be literal, complete destruction of the earth, but it will look like it.

I can take the example of the eruption of the Krakatoa in 1883: everything was destroyed and after destruction came reconstruction as greenery bloomed again and it was later more flourishing. There are many examples on earth where men go away from a place and then all tracks of human activities disappear. Remember Revelation 11:18: God will destroy those who destroy the Earth. Or Isaiah2:4: there won't be anymore wars. Or Psalms 37 where it is said many times that the righteous ones will possess the Earth. or Isaiah 11:6... the animals and the human beings will live together in peace and animals will eat together and not each other.

Exactly, such as Genesis 3:22-24 - It amazes me that people don't recognize the Tree of Life as Christ. So many people believe that if Adam and Eve had eaten from the Tree, they would have been frozen for all of eternity. Amazing. Talk about ADDING a concept to the Bible that doesn't exist.

"frozen for all eternity": really strange! Life is the opposite of death, if you are frozen or something like that it's similar to death, there is no connection with life!

"They" claim that Adam and Eve would have "lived forever" with the Curse of the Lord . . . the Sinful Nature and that there would be no remedy to their new malady. Of course, "they" pay no regard to the Tree of Life, the SAME TOL in Revelation:

Revelation 22:14 KJV - "Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city."

Pretty incredible. And, don't be surprised if someone lays into me for suggesting this Biblical concept (soon). :D

It's the same in the case of the devil's accusation against Job, God was not alone, there were the angels. So he takes them into account when he speaks or acts. He could have destroyed Adam and Eve all at once and started again with other human beings. But the devil was saying that human beings could live by themselves without God's authority. So each time it is necessary to prove who is right and who is a liar like in a court. It deals with God's justice compared to man's justice.

Why was Samuel needed in Isreal? There was chaos in Isreael and no leadership, and the people were forgetting God. ... He felt that God was Israel's king.

God told His prophet that He is King. He also told He is the Redeemer. Actually, when He declared to Moses that He would be What He would be, all is covered, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. If you wish to be picky, God Almighty. El, Elohim, El Elyon, El shaddai,, El ad Olam, and many many more of His attributes yet He is One.

Do not try forcing understandign, relax in peace and believe in faith.

What does El mean for God?
El is a generic word for god that could be used for any god, including Hadad, Moloch, or Yahweh. In the Tanakh, 'elōhîm is the normal word for a god or the great God (or gods, given that the 'im' suffix makes a word plural in Hebrew).
