Do you have heaps of baggage?

Do you take it everywhere you go? Why? Is it out of fear that you just need stuff with you all the time just in case?

I was thinking on this when I observed that I was going out with some friends on a day trip to an island, and the ferry said you can take one bag and it has to be a zipped bag, cos the island is predator free and they dont want any stowaways. Fair enough. well one of my friends did not observe this rule and she came along with 2 big bags and one did not have a zip.

I was like...you can take that on board! And she was like oh...can I put some of my stuff in your bag? I was pretty annoyed cos I didnt really want to be carrying her stuff, but I did it anyway.

Anyway then I noticed that this friend had bought along enough food to feed an army, and was trying to give me her food which I had made it clear that everyone was going to bring their own lunch, water etc. Since I already had my own lunch, I was too full to eat hers. That extra food ended up being eaten by seagulls!

so anyway. Just wondering if you are one of those people that have too much baggage that you try and offload to everyone else even when they already have their own. I think the seagulls benefited from her abundance but I didnt.

I believe everyone has gathered stuff along the way, good and bad. The baggage we often consider toxic to us can be used by and for God. I find this so comforting and encouraging.

This person may have seeped her baggage in to your space, but her heart seems to be in the right place in offering her excess.

I thought, at first, why did Lanolin feel the need to "control" the situation, making sure everyone else does "right"? Does she think ppl honestly TRY and offload their baggage?

I finally realized you probably were not meaning baggage literally, hahaha. This was not a story intended to find some deep meaning in the baggage of life, lol.

Hahaha... I don't think what frustrated you would have bothered me, at all. Sorry though that your day was dampened by her actions though...bummer!!

Ah, Baggage. That was a depressing dating game show. The premise was that all people have baggage and a successful relationship depends mostly on how well each deals with the other's baggage.

I pack "light" but my tote bag is usually heavy, because I usually carry my umbrella and bottle of water everywhere. I also bring a medium size pouch (inside my tote bag) which includes other essential items.

I dont bother with a tiny handbag (useless) but always have a tote bag and extra bags when I got out (for library books) but I dont dump MY stuff on other people to carry. Cos I know I hate it when people do that to me.

I just find it a bit rude. Just because I like reading lots of books doesnt mean everyone else does..or that they will like the same books as me.

I think having abundance is different from deliberately buying more and then wasting it. I dont think its about being right its just people dont realise they keep dumping their baggage when theres a limit to what people can take, carry or handle. Especially when you are already full.

I always have a bottle of water which is my bottle (with my own germs and saliva on it) and I do get annoyed when people get those bottles of water to give that are throw away when I already bought my own..cos then suddenly got all these extra plastic bottles. I notice that extra baggage friend always bought a NEW bottle of water and always tried to give me one and I wondered whether shed heard of reusing and refilling her own bottles of water

But trying to educate people on this when they keep doing it is trying. If I see her doing it again I'll get on her case because it doesnt just troubles me how wasteful she is but on the planet. But you kinda dont want to be a nagger too right?

Then theres the other friend who doesnt bring her own bottle and asks to take a sip out of mine. !!!

anyway. Its kinda like if someone wants to use YOUR face mask. Um no. But then these two friends should get together if one lacks and the other has I suppose.

I have Marie Kondoed the library
I have only books that 'spark joy'. Took me a few years to achieve ...its a problem most libraries have, we cannot keep everything.

otherwise there would be no room to walk and the shelves are not elastic. So I did go round asking preschools and kindergartens whether they wanted a box of free withdrawn library books and all of them were happy to have them. Hooray!

Much better than dumping books in the skip if they are perfectly readable. Also none of them said no and I did not just dump the books on them without asking first.

I dont really like it when people just give you things (like their old clothes) without checking it with you, whether they fit or whether you even want them or not. I think that creates more problems. I think you have to be aware of who is in need and who isn't.

Of course I dont know If that extends to say,..old boyfriends. I mean what do you do...I'm sorry he doesn't fit anymore but I know someone else who might have him. or do you just dump them and don't care what happens to them?

I keep a lot of stuff in my car, but I don't carry it around with me. I've got two bug out bags, tools, a change of clothes, a bedroll/blanket, camping gear, walking stick, flashlights, battery charger... the list goes on and on.

Fear of suffering.

That's what it is. Fear of "not having something you want and not being able to have that need immediately satisfied."

That must be some like of phobia right?

I'll look it up.

When we find that we have forgotten to bring something with us we make a mental note not to do that next time.
These notes collect in our subconscious and nag us when we pack for a trip. We overpack out of fear of forgetting something because we have trained ourselves to think that forgetting something is bad.

We think it is bad because we suffered loss when we forgot something. We had an unpleasant feeling, a discouragement, an amplified sense of "I really needed that" or "I really wish I had that right now" and we tell ourselves, I will do something to make sure this does not happen next time. Thus.. overpacking.

The wise person reconsiders their trips and realizes that they never needed most of what they take even though they keep dragging it along instead of snapping to the fact that there is only about a 10 percent chance they will miss it if they leave it at home.

Once they learn to leave what they rarely use they will experience a since of relief for packing so lightly. They will feel a freedom in not caring if they do end up needing it and left it. They will realize it won't make them feel a sense of discouragement because they can do fine without it. They won't feel the angst they used to dread if they left something.

You are now cured of overpacking. That will be $100 for the hour, leave it with my front office people. Have a nice trip.

heres a game (mostly played by women, not sure why as men dont tend to carry bags with them...why cos they have deep pockets usually...I never got why clothing for women never seems to have any pockets. come on what does it take to sew a pocket inside a skirt or dress?)

whats in your handbag

You just have to empty your bag and name every item thats in it.

If I am reading correctly sounds like it was just a day trip and you would be back later. If this is the case in this type of scenario, I would not bring any bag. For a occasion like this would just wear a pair of my old uniform camo pants and they have the big oversized cargo pockets so would just put my lunch in one of them and anything else I may think I need in the others for a just go out and come back day trip.

I didn't think Lanolin has a problem with baggage...
Sounds to me like she's tired of being taken for granted by people who should know better.

huh

I actually do have a satchel and someone told me it was from army surplus. So men DO have bags too not just briefcases.

I recall my fomer boss used to get all angry at me when I had too many bags cos I needed to bring my own gear for gardening. It was ok for him he had an entire UTE to put stuff in. I only had what I could carry and nowhere to put it..it was not like the gardening company supplied us with bags or kits or even toolsets.

I eventually got it down to one bag and just bought my lunch from the bakery instead of bringing my own everyday as that takes up a lot of room. But it was a bit expensive to do that all the time.

I never really got over bosses treating people like dirt though. As if we somehow didnt need to stop and eat or take a break.

Not at all, not even remotely what I said. In your opening message you said "I was thinking on this when I observed that I was going out with some friends on a day trip to an island, and the ferry said you can take one bag and it has to be a zipped bag ..........."

I then replied, "If I am reading correctly sounds like it was just a day trip and you would be back later. If this is the case in this type of scenario, I would not bring any bag. For a occasion like this would just wear a pair of my old uniform camo pants and they have the big oversized cargo pockets so would just put my lunch in one of them and anything else I may think I need in the others for a just go out and come back day trip."

I was specific to the specifications, the data, the info you had relayed. Even reiterated that is was case specific to what you had laid out. I did so by using the words, if this is the case, scenario, occasion, and go out come back trip day trip. Drawing inferences that what I am about to say is only specific to the circumstance as you have specified.

I have spent a good portion of my life humping a ruck. So yes men do use a bag or something to allow them to carry in excess of what their hands allow. If I am to use a bag from all my years of humping rucks and etc. I myself prefer something that has the MOLLE system integrated into as I have just found that works best for me and the uses I will come up with and fits my needs effective and efficiently.

In the scenario you specified. I saw no need for any kind of bag on my part. As cargo pockets would suffice. My assumption in your scenario is I am gonna be walking, goofing off and generally just have a good time screwing around. So to replace any calories I have burned. I would have a couple of energy bars and a bag of trail mix or the like for my lunch or food needs. Which I could carry in a cargo pocket.

My assumption in your scenario is on this island as it reads like it is a place that tourist visit. They are going to have some sort of facilities such as a bathroom. So in my other cargo pocket I would carry a small water bottle that would fit in it. As if they have facilities I can refill the bottle after I have drank all of it. If they did not have facilities I would bring a camelback for my hydration system.

So no am not opposed or even knocked a man using or carrying a bag. I answered in accordance to the data and info you laid out only for the circumstances that you laid out and what I would do specifically in that case.

what about your towel for the beach, can you fit that in your pocket too. I have no idea what humping a ruck means, either It sounds a bit raunchy.

I mean it could be perfectly innocent, like screwing around could just mean...doing some woodwork. I dont know
