Many times, believers talk about themselves (individually) as being the temple…..something I used to do myself.
But in the “New Testament Epistles” the Temple gives reference to the body of Christ (plural) as a group.... be it a smaller gathering or the entire body of believers …..the following verses give reference
1Co 3:16&3:17, 1Co 6:19, 2Co 6:16, Eph 2:21.
The individual believer in the following verses….. are referred to as the tabernacle.
2Co 5:1, 2Co 5:4, Heb 8:2, Heb 9:11, 2Pe 1:13, 2Pe 1:14
2Co 5:1 For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.
2Co 5:4 For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life.
2Pe 1:13 Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;
2Pe 1:14 Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me.
When you do a study on the OT tabernacle…. and the correlation between that and our lives as born-again believers…in conjunction with us collectively being the temple (body of Christ) it gets really interesting.
