Is the best wine fresh and new and the old wine spoiled and fermented? It was a privilege to have fresh wine.
Who in the bible considered it a privilege to have fresh wine?

This thread is about "Alcohol - a world wide phenomena" from a Bible perspective.

Does the Bible talk about alcohol?

What does the Bible say about alcohol if it does talk about it?

Does the Bible give any warnings or prohibitions abouto it's use or improper use?

Does the Bible say anything about alcohol being a serious health problem in the last days or end times?

Did anyone drink alcohol in the Bible, and if so, who and for what reason?

If there are examples in the Bible of persons drinking alcohol, are they examples of good or evil?

If alcohol is mentioned in the Bible, what words are used for it, and what words are associated and/or surrounding it/them?
I could never understand why anyone would ever intentionally drink alcohol in today's world where drinking water is safe. Alcohol smells bad, tastes bad and makes you feel bad. Disgusting.

I forgot kernels and husk…
Is your hair long? Let us plug these verses back into context.

6 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “Speak to the people of Israel and say to them, When either a man or a woman makes a special vow, the vow of a Nazirite, to separate himself to the Lord, 3 he shall separate himself from wine and strong drink. He shall drink no vinegar made from wine or strong drink and shall not drink any juice of grapes or eat grapes, fresh or dried. 4 All the days of his separation he shall eat nothing that is produced by the grapevine, not even the seeds or the skins.

5 “All the days of his vow of separation, no razor shall touch his head. Until the time is completed for which he separates himself to the Lord, he shall be holy. He shall let the locks of hair of his head grow long.

These are but some of the conditions of taking the vow of a Nazirite which is a temporary vow and I would add one that cannot be done any longer because the sacrificial system has been fulfilled in Christ.

The Holy Bible: English Standard Version (Nu 6:1–5). (2016). Crossway Bibles.

Agreed, nothing good could come from it. It’s devastating to health.

Yes, we know it was intended for the vow, but we are discussing specifically that which comes from the vine.

Your declaration contradicts Scripture.

He makes grass grow for the cattle, and plants for people to cultivate— bringing forth food from the earth:
wine that gladdens human hearts, oil to make their faces shine, and bread that sustains their hearts.

Go, eat your food with gladness, and drink your wine with a joyful heart, for God has already approved what you do.

Stop drinking only water, and use a little wine because of your stomach and your frequent illnesses.

Refer to my earlier post. What is wine that comes from the vine? What is strong drink that comes from the vine?

Drinking alcohol is a good thing? Nope. It destroys families and societies.

I thought we were talking about what Scripture says on the subject of alcohol, not just the verses that admonish against overindulgence or those aimed at a particular small sect of society where anything grape is prohibited. The full council of God allows for alcohol consumption.

Then what is strong drink? Where in the text addresses just plain grape juice?
The KJV uses the word "juice" just once, in the same sentence that the word "wine" is used. Clearly there is a distinction.

Song of Solomon 8:2
I would lead thee, and bring thee into my mother's house, who would instruct
me: I would cause thee to drink of spiced wine of the juice of my pomegranate.

Strong drink is most likely distilled spirits of various grains.

Genesis 49:11
Binding his donkey to the vine,
And his donkey’s colt to the choice vine,
He washed his garments in wine,
And his clothes in the blood of grapes.

Strong drink is of the vine as stated in numbers 6.

What is wine? What is strong drink? Both coming from the vine. No doubt regular grape juice is forbidden. What in the text is identified as grape juice?

3 He shall separate himself from wine and strong drink, and shall drink no vinegar of wine, or vinegar of strong drink, neither shall he drink any liquor of grapes, nor eat moist grapes, or dried.
4 All the days of his separation shall he eat nothing that is made of the vine tree, from the kernels even to the husk.

Numbers 6:3-Strong Drink-
šēḵār: A masculine noun referring to strong drink; beer. It refers to an intoxicating drink and is usually understood as some kind of beer. Priests were not to drink it when serving at the Tabernacle or Temple (Lev 10:9). The Nazarite was not to touch it (Nu 6:3; Jdg 13:4,7,14). The drinkers of strong drink (šôṯê šēḵār) were none other than drunkards (Ps 69:12 [13]; Isa 5:11,22; 28:7; 29:9; 56:12). Such drinking causes violent behavior (Pr 20:1); kings should stay away from it (Pr 31:4); though it may be a sedative for the dying and bitter (Pr 31:6; Isa 24:9). It is used in a context of mockery by Micah (2:11).

Strong drink cannot be wine, since it is differentiated in Scripture-1 Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise. 6 Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts. 9 They shall not drink wine with a song; strong drink shall be bitter to them that drink it.
