I am interested in what kind of activities, or lack of, that CC users do which involve their family. Maybe you have family traditions that you partake in or annual vacations in which you travel to a particular destination every year. How family oriented are you? is your extended family also involved?

Feel free to share any unique experiences you have had with your family also :)

I guess I will get the ball rolling with a statement of sorrow and regret. I was an only child and lost my father when I was 5 years old. While my mother loved me, she was not into physical expressions of love; nor verbal expressions for that matter. She was too busy doing the things she had to do to keep food on the table and a roof over our heads.

I had 6 aunts and uncles on my mom's side, and several close cousins on my father's side. When I was younger we stayed in contact with them and even visited them on occasion. One cousin, in particularly, helped me a lot in my early adulthood when I was recovering from a sudden, unexpected (by me) divorce. I always enjoyed their company, and the feeling of being part of a family.

However, as the years went by, I became more and more distant from all my relatives. I made no effort to contact them, and in one instance, to my great shame, I ignored an attempt by a relative to establish contact with me. As time went by, I lost all contact with any of my relatives. I pretty much ignored the fact that I had relatives at all.

I have now reached the twilight of my life and I cannot begin to tell you how saddened I am by the situation I find myself in. I sincerely regret my actions and wish that I could re-establish contact with whatever relatives are still living. However, it is not necessarily easy to locate them.

In summary, I urge you to cherish your family; all members close or distant. Stay in contact, and do whatever you can with them, whenever you can. I believe that God intends for man to be a social being. So, value those relationships and make them a priority just lower than your relationship with Jesus Christ.

God bless you all.

I hope you will establish the contact with family that you are looking for.

Well, let's see, every year my mother and I went to see her sister is the mountains. My aunt ran a lodge and it was always busy. To this day, the mountain skies and air makes my heart happy.

My mother died 2 months ago. I was adopted late into my parents life so my aunts and uncles were all much older than normal.

I think I need a vacation this summer into the mountains.

Where do you like to vacation SKT?

me likey my family :D

We eat together, A LOT!

We make fun of each other

We go to the beach together

We go shopping together

My family all lives one mile from each other so were together all the time

I just know that I've always wanted to be involved with my family. I'm young, but growing up, I (and my sisters) never had any of my parents family's around. I never was around uncles, aunts, cousins, grandparents, or any of that. My mom's family mainly lives in the Caribbean, and my Dad's side of the family has either passed away, very very distant cousins, or he has never met them. When I was little we did some things a few times every or once in a while, and when we did, those were some of the best days I ever had! I wish I would have done things that involved us more as a family like activities etc...maybe someday I'll know what more of that is like. :)

Well, that is kinda why I started this thread. I have never been on a family vacation, nor do I spend much quality time with my family. The saddest thing about all of this is that I live with my parents, I have no excuse to not spend time with them. I traveled to California in '08 with my dad, but it was just the two of us, my mom and brother didn't join us. Also under the circumstances of the trip I wouldn't necessarily consider it a vacation.

We are all going to be off from work the week of July 4th and I would like to do something together as a family, all of us; get in some quality time. I was just wondering how family oriented others are in the forums and what kind of things they do as a family, hoping to possibly get some ideas for stuff to do next week.

Family BBQ or do a Dinner of somekind :D and maybe go to the beach if you can :) That's what I'd do...but maybe you're looking for something completely different.

Family dynamics are weird for me. I have created my own little family of sorts over the years. I have found that the people who I love the most and spend time with and have the most loyalty to....generally haven't been in my family.

Get some movies. Or card games. I love love love to play pitch and it is fun. Nothing is more bonding than eating home made fudge while cheating, I mean playing a serious game of pitch. :-)

When there's a holiday (Like the one coming up) we usually have a family cook out. Dad does hamburgers and hot dogs and all that jazz.

My family is really close knit. It extends to my aunts and uncles. When the WHOLE family (all 20 of us) get together, it's a zoo! But it's the kind of zoo that you love to place yourself in the middle of.

Family is very important to me. I get together with my mom almost every week(end) and either do crafts together, take her to the store, or wander around her farm and just talk. Then I usually end up at my one brother's house for a short visit with him and his family, and then go over to another of my brother's house and do crafts with his wife. I visit with my one sister over the phone, but it is more hit and miss. We used to all get together for BBQ's or just "BS" sessions (hahhaa) but........well...dynamics have changed with some quarrels in the family. (not involvng me and mine) Papabean's family gets together only about once a year....but they do keep in touch by phone. Again, we used to get together for picnics in the park, but since his mom passed away, it seems we just don't make the best effort.

Papabean and I have recently set it up with our two gitrls that we get together either just the four of us, or the four of us plus their boyfriend(s) once a month for a dinner (out or here at home) and ..something fun?? (ie: bowling, movie--either at the theater, or at home--playing cards, taking a walk in the park together, etc....)

One tradition I have with my immediate family (Hubby and girls) is that we do a 1000 piece puzzle during the week between Christmas and New Year's Eve and have it finished and under the tree by New Year's Day morning.

I have never been close to anybody on my dad's side of the family, except my dad. Most of his family lives in Nevada, including my grandma. My mom's side of the family used to be very closely nit. We would all gather at my grandma's several times a year and it was always a blast! Especially our Christmas Eve gathering. When my grandpa passed, the family started growing apart, then my aunt died, and the family grew even further apart, then a couple years ago my grandma passed away.

Since then the extended family has been almost non existant. I sure do miss those days. I don't talk to any of my cousins anymore and only have one aunt who visits about once a week. My brother moved in a few months ago with his friend and my sister has been moved out for like 14 years. It is pretty much just my dad, mom and I. Oh, and not to forget our amazing pets!
