Yes, but the habit loop of cue, routine and reward still exists. I've read that book about the power of habits. The conclusion is, cues can't be eliminated, they'll always be there, and there's also a longing for the reward as well, the only thing you can do is to change the routine. Translate that into Christianese, although Christ paid the full penalty of our sin by bearing all of it on the cross, our sinful nature still exists as long as we live, but if we follow the Holy Spirit and walk in the newness of life, the old desire for pleasure is replaced with new desire for God, and only then can we have true satisfaction.
Colossians 2:11 NLT - "When you came to Christ, you were "circumcised," but not by a physical procedure. Christ performed a spiritual circumcision--the cutting away of your sinful nature."
2 Peter 1:4 NLT - "And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world's corruption caused by human desires."
By putting these two passages together, we must conclude that the Circumcision of Christ is the "Enabling" act that leads to the new, Divine Nature that causes a person to "escape" corruption. Unbelievable. I wish that some "pastor" of my past would have taught me these things. They are so plain . . . so obvious.
Ezekiel 36:25-27 KJV - "Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them."
