Yes, but the habit loop of cue, routine and reward still exists. I've read that book about the power of habits. The conclusion is, cues can't be eliminated, they'll always be there, and there's also a longing for the reward as well, the only thing you can do is to change the routine. Translate that into Christianese, although Christ paid the full penalty of our sin by bearing all of it on the cross, our sinful nature still exists as long as we live, but if we follow the Holy Spirit and walk in the newness of life, the old desire for pleasure is replaced with new desire for God, and only then can we have true satisfaction.
Yes, habits remain, but more and more a person will reflect the Glory of God . . . and this is by the Effectual Laws of the Spirit. This is the new nature that replaces the old nature . . . the Divine replaces the Sinful.

Colossians 2:11 NLT - "When you came to Christ, you were "circumcised," but not by a physical procedure. Christ performed a spiritual circumcision--the cutting away of your sinful nature."

2 Peter 1:4 NLT - "And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world's corruption caused by human desires."

By putting these two passages together, we must conclude that the Circumcision of Christ is the "Enabling" act that leads to the new, Divine Nature that causes a person to "escape" corruption. Unbelievable. I wish that some "pastor" of my past would have taught me these things. They are so plain . . . so obvious.

Ezekiel 36:25-27 KJV - "Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them."

Yeah, a simple example, old nature craves for doughnuts and soda, that has to be replaced with a new nature that craves for salad and smoothies. The old habit that leads me to be couch must be replaced with a new habit that leads me to the treadmill. Those are not just chores that wear me out, but what's really good for my physical being. There's always a natural resistance against this nature, and that's a battle that belongs to the Holy Spirit.

2 Corinthians 3:18 NLT - "So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord--who is the Spirit--makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image."

That Veil is the Sinful Nature. And when that Veil is removed, then and only then can a person reflect the Glory of God more and more.

read here ----
https://www.bible.ca/7-10-commandments-abolished-2-Corinthians-3.htm

2 Corinthians 3 states four times that the 10 commandments are abolished.

A. Four times the 10 commandments are abolished!

  1. the ministry of death, in letters engraved on stones ... abolished [fading] v7
  2. ministry of condemnation... abolished [fades away] v9,11
  3. the old covenant... is abolished [removed] in Christ, v14
  4. but whenever a person turns to the Lord, the veil [10 commandments] is abolished [taken away] v16

The law was never abolished and never will be. Jesus son of GOD said in Matthew 5:17 (KJV);

17. Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. 18For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. 19Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Blessings,

That's also a subtle reference of Moses who came down from Mount Sinai with God's shekinah glory that his face shone, he had to put on a veil to conceal it.

Hey there,

Ever wonder why Moses could destroy the first set of Laws on stone and God didn't utter a single word about it? To me, this indicates that there would come a day when the Law would no longer have its use.

Deuteronomy 9:16-17 CSB - 16 "I saw how you had sinned against the LORD your God; you had made a calf image for yourselves. You had quickly turned from the way the LORD had commanded for you. 17 "So I took hold of the two tablets and threw them from my hands, shattering them before your eyes."

The Laws of Moses were definitely to no longer be depended upon . . . hence, the tablets could be shattered.

Galatians 3:10 NLT - "But those who depend on the law to make them right with God are under his curse, for the Scriptures say, "Cursed is everyone who does not observe and obey all the commands that are written in God's Book of the Law."

I think you are missing sotw's point.

Righteousness is not necessarily going to be understood by reading the handwritten ordinances of the OT. In fact, those ordinances are blotted out.

When we read the NT for guidance, it speaks of having love for one another. Ordinances of the OT such as not eating pork or shellfish are gone away except in circumstances where something is partaken of without faith, or at the jeopardy of another's faith. But this isn't an invitation to follow the strictest path. We see this when Paul chastises those that say that OT ordinances are required for salvation.
Those old ordinances that were blooded out were not the true law of the Lord, for the Lord is spirit and those laws were of the flesh to act as schoolmasters to lead people to the true law. Now we have the Holy Spirit and Christ to lead us to the law, we are to use them not the old ordinances.

In the OT and the NT it is a principle of the Lord that there is no salvation without blood. Man has never been so God like that man can create their own salvation. Lev. 17:11 "For the life in the flesh is in the blood and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls"

Torah is not just law, but holy INSTRUCTION. This is an unfortunate common misconception. We don't passively obey the rules, we actively follow the rules as a guideline for our own good. It's the It's like the learning curve in a training session, you know, a Christian is expected to have graduated from that and go out to battle with dark spirits in the world - with what is learned in that training session.

Romans 4:15 NLT - "For the law always brings punishment on those who try to obey it. (The only way to avoid breaking the law is to have no law to break!)"

This is the beauty of the Circumcision of Christ . . . it separates us from worldly laws that judge and accuse. Hence, when the Laws written upon tablets of stone were no longer the guardian for the Jews, they no longer judged. Imagine this . . . how can one break a speed law if that speed law has been removed? If those worldly laws that accuse have been removed, one cannot break that law.

This is the Work of Christ . . . and this is how we who belong to Him are viewed as perfect. The worldly laws are removed and are now judged by the Laws of the Spirit of Life.

This is about a transformation of mind. All health experts tell you that doughnut bad, broccoli good, but broccoli takes time to cook, while doughnut gives instant gratification, the temptation is hard to resist, if you just eat broccoli for the sake of keeping the rule, sooner or later you're gonna backslide to doughnuts for indulgence. The attitude must change from abhoring broccoli and craving for doughnuts to abhoring doughnuts and craving for broccoli, and that's the work of the Holy Spirit.

I wish that some "pastor" of my past would have taught me these things. They are so plain . . . so obvious.

for we know in part, and we teach in part,

we preach a part and we say in part

we pray only in part, live only a part

ask for money - for parts

but don't tell you that it is only part

and that we don't have the rest

of the parts - that we need

in order to put together the parts we can't see

How is this NOT about there not being Laws to break? There's plenty of scripture to support this concept. This is part of what it means to be free and Christ.

I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

Jesus came to fulfill the law and so it is finished as far as people having to follow it ------you apparently don't understand scripture ---your trying to make it say what you want it to say -------the law is under the Curse ----there is no spiritual eternal life under the law ------

So good luck trying to keep what you can't keep ------no man can keep the law ------Jesus had to come to fulfill it so it would become obsolete and take the Curse the law brought in ------

All born again people are under the New Covenant of Grace which comes through Faith in Jesus who took the Curse of the law and brought back the Blessing -------

Christ tells us that if we love him we will obey him, and yet you are telling me that God does not want us to obey Christ, that because we can't do it perfectly then we should not let the law guide us. That makes no sense.

Obeying Christ is having Faith in what He accomplished on the Cross it has nothing to do with keeping the law -----Christ fulfilled the law so it could be put away ------as no man could keep it ------man was Cured and spiritually separated from God with the law --------

The law is common sense -----and the Holy Spirit is more than capable of keeping believers straight on the right path ----no law needed -----

The Lord gave Moses the law in stone, and the Lord is truth, yet that law is inadequate. Christ put the law into our hearts.

The law in stone is fleshly, to be obeyed by the letter of the law. God is spirit, not flesh, so the true law is not the fleshly letter of the law, it is the law of the spirit. All the laws of the OT reflect this. The Lord gave physical commands and rewards to teach the law of the spirit--- like circumcision. When they cut flesh and made a mark to show they were different from pagans and belonged to God, the symbol of circumcision was to teach the law of the spirit. When Christ put the law in our hearts, we are not to use the fleshly commands any longer, but listen to the holy spirit within us.

The Lord gave us a universal command we are to check all law against, for all true law reflects this universal law.

Luke 10:26-27 What is written in the Law?” Jesus replied. “How do you read it?” 27 He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’ and ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
