Hey Everyone,

A recent bout with (for me at least) a systematic preventative but not-particularly-pleasant medical routine currently had me thinking about what I personally do when I'm not feeling well physically, emotionally, or spiritually.

First, I made a "nest" for myself consisting of a plethora of (usually 4) pillows and (at least 2) fluffy blankets. Next, I queued up and listened to a sermon from a church I used to attend in another area for a bit of a spiritual boost.

And finally, I had to throw in a little bit of Ultimate Carbie Comfort: saltine crackers and/or potato chips, which are my staple food when I'm not feeling up to par, a can of Sprite (with a straw, of course! You know it's serious when straws are involved,) and maybe later, some mac'n'cheese. Now I know it will probably make some people sick just reading this, but for some reason, junk/fast food is always my first choice when I'm sick (not exactly a healthy decision, I know.) But my normal diet consists of a lot of eggs and vegetables, and those just don't cut it when I'm so nauseous that I can only stand for a couple minutes at a time.

I blame the fact that as a teen, I had a longer-than-expected hospital stay during which I begged my parents to bring me McDonald's "food" because I thought I would starve on all the bland hospital offerings, and so ever since that time, it's been "normal" for me to crave french fries, Chicken McNuggets (specifically McNuggets -- no other brand tastes the same!) and at home, as an easier, cheaper, and fast alternative for something salty, Kraft (gots to be Kraft!) boxed mac'n'cheese.

I guess the good thing about having relatively cheap tastes in comfort food is that it allows me to save more money for the medical bills!

How about the rest of you?

* What are some typical symptoms you always get when you're not feeling well spiritually, mentally, or physically?

* What care routines have you developed to help you recover?

* What are some of your favorite items, foods, and things that you do (or don't do) that you always find soothing?

One of the challenges I find about single life is having to manage our own health care by ourselves, so I think it's interesting to find out how other singles navigate this as well.

Thank you all for sharing, and may God bless your health and well-being in all ways. :)

Tons of candy. I just have to stock up candy if I’m feeling down or not well.

Actually nothing...
I go to sleep in my bed and I want to eat nothing...to be left completely alone and take lots of OTC drugs and vitamins.

Now coming out of feeling sick...I will be hungry enough to eat the Northern end of a south bound mule...no kidding...I can clean out a fridge. I mostly crave carbs....like bread. Lots and lots of basic crusty and chewy bread...maybe butter and jam or honey but it's not necessary.

Pasta by the mile too. (Remember when it was sold that way?)
12 inch noodles weighed out in bundles of 50 then that weight multiplied by whatever...then 5280 feet is a mile. Just a matter of math.

Don't want chocolate...don't want fried food. I want bread. Sugar is ok...candy works.

Potato chips go particularly well with a carton of ice cream.

And none of those wimply little 3-gulp pints here (unless there are at least 3 of them!)

It's half gallons or nothing.

Go big, or go home.

Pasta sold in bundles of 50???

Sounds like an early precursor of Costco and wholesale clubs (in reference to the large amounts.)

Would they split them up if a customer wanted fewer noodles?

Though goodness knows, I just might be missing a few noodles in my own noggin. :D

Unfortunately , being Type 2 diabetic , all the comfort foods have truly gone for me...Anything high carb will make my blood sugar go through the roof , even into hospital...
To be honest , although fast food is tasty , it is the reason why so many people are actually sick...
I cannot eat bread , but I do make my own Keto style , with lovely grass fed butter , and I make lots of other things to , but with very low carb...
...xox...

Yeah, what he said. When I'm not feeling good just leave me alone and let me sleep. I don't want attention, I don't want to be served anything, I won't be a big baby, just leave me alone.

Should I comment on this?

Oh, the temptation.

Alas, I'll just try to be good.
If you are talking about thwarted breakfast plans, just hush. That was completely justified ire.

No....
Served at a table in a restaurant.

You could buy a plate of spaghetti of ¼ mile, ½mile or a whole mile.

The weight of 50 strands was just a way of getting the number of feet correct. Everyone's noodles were unique. So the chef would figure out the dry weight of 50 feet and then do the math.

And you would order spaghetti by the mile.

Now I really want to see what a mile of spaghetti looks like all curled up on the plate (and then find someplace to lay it end to end and check if it's really still a mile after cooking).

This also makes me want to test how much more pasta I would get if I asked for "a country mile's" worth of spaghetti instead of just a regular old mile.

I really, really want to put the "disagree" emoji on this, but some people might not realize that I try to save all the negative reaction emojis for my friends (in other words, almost exclusively just for Lynx) as a personal expression of facetiousness (which is one of Lynx's most favorite words in the whole wide world.):geek::cool:

I get frustrated, restless and for the most part annoyed if im not feeling well physically especially if i see no solution
for me to have.

I guess in short is i work on my faith in what i believe God has done about a thing that i clearly do not see evidence of yet but need to understand by changing my perspectives about it as i look for and attempt to accept the truth in it so that i might have rest. I have learned a long time ago about the power of being able to change my mind and that it requires self movement (me to change how i am thinking), it's just that im not always willing. It's like i know the remedy for the problem but sometimes im just in too annoyed and i need to get over myself, and get me out of the way to be able to let God work.... When i get this way i have to go to my quiet place for a while, first to sulk in silence because i know i can't do it alone casting aside my pride and second to put my faith back in God.

Foodwise it honestly depends, sometimes i will just eat a plain bowl of rice or quinoa with something simple like salmon with a bunch of vegetables in it.I lost 106lbs and i pretty much made a commitment not to gain it back again with the fried stuff i used to eat. I mostly just snack on things like carrots or apples/ oranges. My meals aren't exciting but on a positive note people don't die when they go into my restroom.

Ooooh, the dreaded shrinkage!

Sounds like another job for the infamous, "Sold by weight, not by volume" disclaimer, or at least a slight variation.

"Sold by POST-Cooking Length, Not PRE -- Management Reserves the Right to Exclude Shrinkage Due to Temperature Fluctuation at Its Own Discretion."

Actually these days spaghetti noodles are usually factory made to be about ten inches long.

5,280 feet make a mile.
12 inches to the foot.

You got a kitchen scale?

And now I'm wondering how many people hang signs on their bathrooms that say something like, "WARNING: Enter This Room AT YOUR OWN RISK. Side Effects May Include Nausea, Upset Stomach, and DEATH.":eek::ROFL:

Sounds like someone is going to need a plate of pasta piled high with a heaping dose of Metamu-cil-lini sauce as the antidote (just like Mama used to make... ?)

Ice cream used to be my comfort food... until I discovered that my favourite brand contains soybean oil.

Yes, SOYBEAN OIL.

What the HE** were they thinking? Ice cream is supposed to be made from CREAM. Real dairy CREAM, from a cow, not hyper-processed estrogenic sludge.

I'm so upset that I need comfort food....
