Why not lock a thread that has not been posted to in 3, 6, 12 months?
Not an expert on the subject, but surely this could be an automatic setting.

I greatly support this idea, but it has already been stated, years ago, they have no intention on locking threads beyond those they feel necessary, problematic threads.
And, again, the software the site is built on may or may not allow it.

Why should every thread that has not been posted to recently be locked???

Why do some people seem to think that it is a crime to post to a thread if it has been a while...?

We have several 'game' threads that sometimes have lapses before they are once again back to being played again.

What is wrong with that?

I don't care how old a thread is, if I feel like posting in it I will.

Threads do eventually fall off the back end. That takes some time, though.
I checked a few forums, and the median seems to be around 2008.
One forum only went back to 2013. I guess it's not as popular ;)

This suggestion has come up from time to time, and ultimately it is not that often that people necropost other than the occasion when one individual decides to habitually revive dozens of long dead threads. As for myself, it is actually interesting when some old threads come back up.

It seems you have changed your mind about what moderators should and should not be doing.

I believe that was in response to certain subjects not being allowed. Don't remember and not taking the time to search.
Just find it strange that sometimes a person brings up a post that has not been responded to for a year or more. But some think I have strange ways.:)

If by subjects you mean heresies, yes. I find it strange that you think heresies should be allowed, but older threads should not.

Define heresies.
What you or I believe is heresies may be what others believe is truth and they in turn call our belief heresy.
I see that very often when discussing Scripture.
I see I am in the minority on this, and that is no big deal to me.
So far, I enjoy the site.

If you enjoy the site, why did you link to a site that had next to nothing good to say about it?

Don't really know what you mean.
I was referring to enjoying Christian Chat.
Guess I will just keep my suggestions to myself in the future.

I got my first computer at the turn of the millennium :D

It sure was a steep learning curve at first...

I mean, I did not even know how to turn it on

But it is amazing how few basic things one needs
to know to operate with a modicum of efficiency :)

My daughter taught me a few things and pretty soon
the tables were turned and I was teaching her things (y)
