Those were crazy days evidenced by the fact pet rocks were also a thing.......LOL I would be curious to read how blue jeans have changed and even perhaps ushered in new cultural changes or where a sign of a cultural change. They are iconic undoubtedly and they have been a part of culture and historic in that aspect.

So would be curious to read how they changed with culture how they even played a part in culture change. Ways that a counter culture arose and dressed unique in their own way to identify themselves and their counter culture. One thing is for sure blue jeans have shaped past and even present culture and they have changed and adapted just as much as mankind has during the period of history they have been introduced even to this present day. They have kept pace and moved parallelly with mankind as culture and attitudes have changed.
theres probably a complete history of jeans book in the library somewhere

I've never spent more than 50 dollars for a pair of jeans (I'm big on sales), while I'm frequently forced to spend far more on slacks and dresses... so, not that expensive.

However, if no one wears them in NZ then why worry about what people in other countries are wearing,?

Styles always vary with different cultures...
i think they came in with a lot of imported styles and people just dont know what to do with them thats all
they get told they are fashion but not really WHY

if they are an american style why are so many made in China?

I dont know if say, nz clothes like Swanndri has suddently become cool fashion item in other countries and everyone starts wearing them just to be 'in' when they originally meant to wear out on the farm

its just curiousity

I mean I could start a thread about silk, the silk road etc

but not as many people wear silk as they wear jeans - jeans obviously made of cotton, though cotton is no longer king in the US, most of it being grown in India now

And I'm one of those people.

I mean, what doesn't go with a pair of black jeans?

Anyhow, here's my personal take on clothing in general, and others are free to vehemently disagree.

Whereas the world will tell people things like "Dress for success" and "Clothes make the man", I dress in a manner which I believe brings glory to God.

For me, that manner is that I have somewhere around 100 different Christian-themed t-shirts and hoodies, many of which I've designed myself, that I wear regularly with a pair of either black or faded blue jeans (not too fond of the dark blue jeans) and my trademark black sneakers (Usually Pumas...sometimes Reeboks).

God only knows how many conversations about Jesus/the Bible have been started simply because of the way that I dress.

I still remember the first Christian-themed t-shirt that I bought shortly after I got saved and why I bought it.

Believe it or not, I used to be the biggest coward on the face of the earth...to the point that I would literally almost faint (my head would literally spin) if I needed to talk to someone.

Well, that type of personality doesn't bode too well with preaching the gospel to every creature and/or not being ashamed of Jesus and his words.

One day, I was at a Flea Market, and there was a man there who did airbrushing. I had him airbrush me a t-shirt which simply read "Jesus saves"...and the rest, as they say, is history.

You have no idea how much I struggled initially to just wear a shirt like that out in public.

If you read some of the designs that I now wear, then you might wonder how somebody hasn't thrown me off of a cliff by now.

Anyhow, that's my two cents worth.
i was going go reply to this
because one time I and two friends entered a half marathon and we got matching t shirts, they were hot pink and they had a chocolate design on the front I recall

then I figured if we want to run one another time I would get t shirts especially made with inspiring words on the back...because if we do run ahead of anyone they can read whats on the back of our tshirts

But we havent run another one
something simple like I Run for Jesus or similar

t shirts would be easier to match than jeans as they are loose and you can pull them over your head
t shirt dresses even better

you can print any design you want on a t-shirt and get them customised

I dont know what sort of statement jeans try to make though, to me its a bit nebulous...rebel? what are you trying to rebel against? gang wear is leather jacket and patches, usually paired with black jeans

'westies' in nz are actually petrolheads and they usually wear black skinny jeans

the black is so when out joyriding a car in the dark they wont be seen and blend in...as everyone else wears them too

by 'everyone' I mean both men and women
obviously dont take it literally to mean everyone on the entire planet has a pair lol

I've designed running related t-shirts before with either of the following two verses of scripture on them:

"Let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith." (Heb. 12:1-2)

"Know you not that they which run in a race run all, but one receives the prize? So run, that you may obtain." (I Cor. 9:24)

thats a lot of words to fit on a t shirt though!

are they embroidered in or printed on?

I'd look for something that was simple and could be read and seen from afar

Speaking of t-shirt dresses, this is one of my designs with a running verse on it (Heb. 12:1-3):

P.S.

I'm not recommending this for you.

I just love God and animals.

I found out there was a jeans brand called 'true religion'
Not sure what the religion its meaning. if its Christianity, then all christians need to wear them lol

They have horsehoes on the butt pockets
But Ive never seen them here, must be only avilable in US

I think it was the Levis red tabs that were the 'cool' jean in the 80s and it was unacceptable to wear any other kind, but now, with all the knock offs, made in China, anything goes

but the levis were the original, they had the red tab, the leather brand thing, the v embroidery, the rivets, the five pockets and button fly

in the 90s cos of 'grunge' that came out of seattle, people started ripping up their jeans, like we dont like them war on jeans lol

then I lost track of jeans because at work they were banned, if you WERE going to wear jeans they had to be 'dress denim' i,e no holes

I do remmeber wearing a denim pencil skirt and that was actually ok, and it zipped up at the back, no fly.

then later on...skinny jeans came in but after a few wears they got all saggy and needed to be chucked out
then jeggings
the horror!

and now its like jeans what happened to you, you were once cool but now, you are sad rags that I wouldnt touch with a bargepole lol

It is a lot of words, but there are ways to incorporate the scripture into the design like I did here:

Again, I am not recommending this for you, nor is this some sort of shameless plug for one of my t-shirt designs.

As I've said before, I just dress in a manner which hopefully brings glory to God and which hopefully generates conversations about the Lord (that has happened many times) or at least plants a seed in someone's mind.

People do read my shirts, hoodies, and ballcaps all of the time, and many of them comment on them.

Years back, I worked in my friend's pizzeria back in New Jersey. His pizzeria was situated right across the street from the public high school and a Roman Catholic high school. Many students from both schools came into the pizzeria daily, and I probably had about 100 different Christian t-shirts back then, too (this was many years ago, and I no longer have any of those specific designs).

Anyhow, one of the students at one of the schools was my friend's daughter, and she told me that my t-shirts were the talk of the school. Granted, it was probably more in a mocking manner, but I did get to share the gospel with some students, give a Bible to one student, give tracts to several students, and I also had a most interesting conversation with a Jewish male teenager concerning a prophetic passage in the book of Daniel that points to Jesus. He actually came back into the pizzeria about a week later and told me that he had a dream about what I told him.

Hey, you never know. Plant a seed, and there just might be a harvest somewhere down the line.

I sometimes have colour in scripture bookmarks for the children
but otherwise dont wear faith on my sleeve (or t shirt)
car has fish symbol on it tho

if it was on jeans theyd need to embroider the fish symbol on the butt pockets though maybe you dont really want people looking there.

yesterday was at garden and there was a new guy wearing a mask made out of denim and it had two butt pockets on each side of the mask...lol

for some, wearing jeans is like a religion?! Holey jeans lol

I'm not suggesting that people need to wear scripture on their clothing, but it is a good way to get a conversation started...or to be thrown headlong off of a cliff.

If nothing else, then people know where I stand.

To be totally honest, it's also more than likely very directly linked to the fact that I have no friends on the face of this earth. It's not so much that people don't like me (because they generally do), but more so that they hate Jesus Christ.

Been there.

Done that.

So many times that nobody could ever convince me otherwise.

In fact, if I just walk into a FAMILY GATHERING while wearing a Christian-themed shirt or ballcap, then I literally see murder in some of my own family members' eyes.

I'm not joking...

I enjoy occasional Chinese take-out. Not on my lap though. That must've been a funny scene in that food court.

Why'd you have to mention Chinese food?

Now I'm craving some pork fried rice and an eggroll (with some hot mustard, of course).

Well, my landlord invited me to his backyard barbecue.

That's the good news.

The bad news is that I might be on the menu...lol (only kidding about the last part).

I won't get any pork fried rice there, but I'll more than likely get some sort of rice and beans, which might be my favorite food (at least as a base) on the planet.

My marriage was basically a disaster, but my ex (she was Panamanian) was a very good cook.

I can still taste her chicken and rice cooked with coconut milk.

Ohhhh...

I love hot mustard on Chinese food. My first wife was a horrible cook and rarely cooked a meal. I ate a lot of bologna sandwiches back then. That chicken and rice with coconut milk sounds scrumptious.

Believe me, it is.

Yea, hot mustard is a must when eating Chinese food.

I haven't had a bologna sandwich in probably the last 30 something years.

We used to get these big chunks of bologna (I'm sure there's a proper name for them) when I was a kid. Used to cut that in thick slices and eat it with some Gulden's spicy mustard. That was good, too.

Yea, I think that's what it's called.

Once, when I was a teenager, my younger sister (I'm number 8 out of 9 children) fell off of a wall and got a concussion right before my birthday. In all of the craziness that ensued, my mother forgot to buy me a birthday cake, and she put a candle in a ring bologna and then sang "Happy birthday" to me.

True story...
