Milk or Meat? What are you getting



We ended with this passage and it is a great place to start.



Acts 17:10And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews. 11These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. 12Therefore many of them believed; also of honourable women which were Greeks, and of men, not a few.



We all need to learn to do this. When was the last time you lessened to a sermon, a Sunday school lessen Etc. and studied the scriptures daily to if they were so. If we are not trained up how can we train up anyone else.

It is not written in this passage but as you read Paul's writings you know that he gave them the tools, the information to go home and as my pastor would say “don't take my word for it check it out” and study and find out what is the real truth. Once you do that you will know that you are in the right place. You can not just take the word of any man; me included! I am open to discuss any of this in an open and respectful way.



Paul had a few things to say about that to the church and Christians then and know.



1st Corinthians 3:1

New International Version
Brothers and sisters, I could not address you as people who live by the Spirit but as people who are still worldly—mere infants in Christ.

Dear brothers and sisters, when I was with you I couldn’t talk to you as I would to spiritual people. I had to talk as though you belonged to this world or as though you were infants in Christ.

I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready.

The Corinthians where just going to church and then going home and putting there “Christianity” on the shelf till they get back together again on Saturday or Sunday night, Wednesday night, Saturday or Sunday morning.

Being a christian is a life style, you live it 24 7 are we perfect NO, when we fall short and we will “that new person we are talking about will” we need to learn to pick ourselves up knock the dust off the seat of your pants ask God to forgive us and help us to stay strong and get better.

I am not saying as Paul also said in Romans God forbid this does not mean we can just go out sin and come back and say God forgive me. NO WAY, NO HOW! We are human we still have the flesh body and it will fight against the spirit body. You have seen the cartoon with the angel on one shoulder and the devil on the other. That is a simple way of putting it. The new person needs to know this.



I have adult children and grandchildren, I wish I would have had the teaching then that I am getting now. They have all gone there own way. They are not following God and yet if you ask them are you a Christian they will say yes, but they are not. It hurts to say that. I do pray for them not as much as I should. There problem is they where not raised up right; Why? Because my wife and I were not raised up right. Was the church teaching us to be evil? NO. What they were teaching us was the church doctrine, the traditions of men. No one ever took me under there wing and mentored me. Is that the churches fault? Yes and No. Yes they should have been training us up to become a master builder rightly dividing the Word of God; BUT we had the bible we could have gotten a concordance (at that time I did not even know what one was) and studied like the Berean's . They were learning from Paul and Silas And they still went home daily and studied the scriptures “The Old Testament” remember they were living the new testament. There is nothing taught in the New Testament that was not spoken of in the Old Testament. God word is the same from Genesis 1:1 – Revelation 22:21 He never changes.



Deuteronomy 4: 9.Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons' sons; 10.Specially the day that thou stoodest before the LORD thy God in Horeb, when the LORD said unto me, Gather me the people together, and I will make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they shall live upon the earth, and that they may teach their children.



Before you start yelling that is the Old Testament, We are know in New Testament times. We do not need to follow the law. We are under grace. You have to know that there is a difference between the law “the 10 commandments” they are as sound today as they were the day God gave them to Moses; the statutes are laws set by the governing government at a given time period, they can and do change so the statutes of Moses, are different from the time of Jesus, and they are different today, and they will change with time. Good example back in the 1930,s you did not have a 65 mph speed law, it was not needed. Today it is and some time in the future it may change again. The ordinances they are church law like the sacrifices, or Communion today; again they have changed over time. Jesus did away with ALL blood sacrifices; tithing or bringing an offering to the Lord has been with us form the time of Cain and Able.



Matthew 5 17.Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. 18. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. 19. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.



We need to be teaching this to the new Christian to help them build a strong foundation to build upon; but if you are not being taught this in your church or where ever you get your teaching you will not have a good foundation and if your foundation is weak the people you are leading will have the same weak foundation; and it will just keep going on and on and . . . ect.

I say all this in hopes to help you understand just what it takes to raise up a child, to help parents raise up there children in a good christian home.

What I get from your post is that the meat of the word is in living for him.

By the way, I feel exactly like you where my children and grandchildren are concerned. We can let them know how sorry we are for the mistakes we made raising them, but we will be Christ like examples to them now and they will also because of it. 😊

All good thoughts. But, I would add that we be sure to understand that the difference between those "supping on milk" and those "feasting on the meat" is that the 1st are new/immature believers who have yet to grow in their walk with Christ. Those feasting on the meat are those mature believers who have received the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit who gives them the deeper, spiritual understanding of Scripture, and not just the earthly/physical understanding...........

As for the Law, we must also be sure to teach our children the Law of the New Covenant, that being the Law of Faith as introduced to us by the Apostle Paul.........

Anyhow, your picture reminded me of an incident from my past.

Many years ago, I rented a kiosk in a Mall in Pennsylvania for the months of November and December to sell my merchandise. As it turned out, the kiosk right next to mine was run by three young Jews, one guy and two girls, who were selling Dead Sea salts and some lotions from Israel. We quickly became friends, and we chatted with each other regularly throughout our two months there together.

Well, one day I ordered a cheeseburger for lunch, and all three Jews hurried over towards me and basically pleaded with me (sincerely) that I wouldn't eat it. They knew that I was a Christian, and their pleading was based upon the following verses of scripture:

"The first of the firstfruits of thy land thou shalt bring into the house of the LORD thy God. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk." (Exodus 23:19)

"The first of the firstfruits of thy land thou shalt bring unto the house of the LORD thy God. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk." (Exodus 34:26)

"Ye shall not eat of any thing that dieth of itself: thou shalt give it unto the stranger that is in thy gates, that he may eat it; or thou mayest sell it unto an alien: for thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk." (Deuteronomy 14:21)

Their understanding of the bold-faced parts, as it had been taught to them by their rabbi, was that God forbids the mixing of meat and dairy while eating. With such a belief, they were genuinely concerned about my well-being in relation to my cheeseburger that I was was about to devour.

Well, I had a Bible in the drawer of my kiosk, and I opened it to the following portion of scripture and had them follow along as I read it to them:

Genesis chapter 18

[1] And the LORD appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day;
[2] And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him: and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground,
[3] And said, My Lord, if now I have found favour in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant:
[4] Let a little water, I pray you, be fetched, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree:
[5] And I will fetch a morsel of bread, and comfort ye your hearts; after that ye shall pass on: for therefore are ye come to your servant. And they said, So do, as thou hast said.
[6] And Abraham hastened into the tent unto Sarah, and said, Make ready quickly three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes upon the hearth.

I asked them if they saw that Abraham prepared a calf with butter and milk for the LORD and the two angels and that they all ate of it. They were surprised at what they read, but they all admitted that they saw it, and they told me that they would ask their rabbi about it and get back to me. Well, they never did get back to me, and I and my cheeseburger had a little party of our own.

Anyhow, just another one of my boring, sleep-inducing stories that nobody could care less about.

when we hear this as known sinners it’s not going to cause growth but despair

“Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.”

but if you offer mercy and repentance and wisdom unto salvation to the known sinner your going to call them towards you , they are going to grow

that is we hear it and believe is going to direct us to come closer and learn from Jesus and the gospel because we believe he’s not come to condemn us but to preach To is the truth and save us , set us free from Captivity

1 Corinthians is saying that they were carnal because they argued about who their favorite teachers were.

They needed to learn about how to love.

Hebrews lists the Milk in Heb 6:1. If we taught a series on those things people would say were were teaching meat. But they are milk.

Peter said to desire the sincere milk of the Word and it had nothing to do with maturity level. He was saying no matter how advanced we are in knowledge of the word or maturity we will always need the Word of God to grow just like a baby can only grow from milk.

Peter was not saying desire only teachings that are simple. He was saying to value the Word of God as our necessary food. At any maturity level. That never changes.

So in the context of 1 Corinthians they were babes because they were carnal because they were fighting over teachers and who the best speakers were between Paul, Apollos and Peter.

In the context of Hebrews 6:1 the Milk is...
repentance from dead works,
faith in God,
teaching about baptisms,
laying on of hands,
the resurrection of the dead,
eternal judgment.

Do a series on all the scriptures related to each of those topics and people will say you are teaching meat. But it is the milk.

So what is the meat? The rest of Hebrews.

What I get from your post is that the meat of the word is in living for him.

By the way, I feel exactly like you where my children and grandchildren are concerned. We can let them know how sorry we are for the mistakes we made raising them, but we will be Christ like examples to them now and they will also because of it. 😊

Lets look at some of the meat of the word that you should know and understand. I am just going to go through several things that may or may not be taught in your church. You should know them if you have been a christian for any length of time.

Paul was trying to explain some of the deeper things in the word and they could not handle it. Notice the verses in bold. They should have been teachers by this time but instead they need to go back to the milk “baby bottle” If you are not raised up how can you help anyone else. You have to have sharp senses to tell the difference between good and evil. Between truth and a lie. Most churches never get their flock off the milk. They do not want to rock the boat.

Who was Melchizedek? Genesis 14

17And the king of Sodom went out to meet him after his return from the slaughter of Chedorlaomer, and of the kings that were with him, at the valley of Shaveh, which is the king's dale. 18And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God.

19And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth:

20And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all.

21And the king of Sodom said unto Abram, Give me the persons, and take the goods to thyself. 22And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lift up mine hand unto the LORD, the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth, 23That I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet, and that I will not take any thing that is thine, lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich: 24Save only that which the young men have eaten, and the portion of the men which went with me, Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre; let them take their portion.

Verse 17. Who is the king of Sodom? He is the King of Sodom and Gomorrah. A king that not only allowed the worst type of sin but most likely encouraged it. He is a type of Satan.

Strong's Hebrew 5467: (Sodom = 'burning'1) a Canaanite city, usually paired with Gomorrah, located in the area of the Dead Sea and the Jordan river; both cities destroyed by God in judgment.

Verse 18. Who is Melchisedec king of Salem? He is a type of Jesus.

What does it mean to fear the Lord

Fearing the Lord means to be in reverent awe of His holiness, to give Him complete reverence and to honor Him as the God of great glory, majesty, purity and power.

But, I would add that we be sure to understand that the difference between those "supping on milk" and those "feasting on the meat" is that the 1st are new/immature believers who have yet to grow in their walk with Christ. Those feasting on the meat are those mature believers who have received the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit who gives them the deeper, spiritual understanding of Scripture, and not just the earthly/physical understanding...........

As for the Law, we must also be sure to teach our children the Law of the New Covenant, that being the Law of Faith as introduced to us by the Apostle Paul.........

Hebrews 5
11We have much to say about this, but it is hard to explain, because you are dull of hearing. 12Although by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to reteach you the basic principles of God’s word.c You need milk, not solid food!
13For everyone who lives on milk is still an infant, inexperienced in the message of righteousness. 14But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained their senses to distinguish good from evil.
Just because you have been a Christian for 5- 55 years you may not be trained up to be teachers. Paul says here that by this time you ought to be teachers but because you are dull of hearing you need to go back on the milk because you can not handel the solid food.
Here is the teaching that came just before this.

Do you understand Just who Melchizedek represents, you could say even do you know who He was. This is the meat of the word that Paul is talking about. I know people that have been in church proclaming to know God, to be a Christian 50-60 years and do not have a clue about things like this.

Anyhow, your picture reminded me of an incident from my past.

Many years ago, I rented a kiosk in a Mall in Pennsylvania for the months of November and December to sell my merchandise. As it turned out, the kiosk right next to mine was run by three young Jews, one guy and two girls, who were selling Dead Sea salts and some lotions from Israel. We quickly became friends, and we chatted with each other regularly throughout our two months there together.

Well, one day I ordered a cheeseburger for lunch, and all three Jews hurried over towards me and basically pleaded with me (sincerely) that I wouldn't eat it. They knew that I was a Christian, and their pleading was based upon the following verses of scripture:

"The first of the firstfruits of thy land thou shalt bring into the house of the LORD thy God. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk." (Exodus 23:19)

"The first of the firstfruits of thy land thou shalt bring unto the house of the LORD thy God. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk." (Exodus 34:26)

"Ye shall not eat of any thing that dieth of itself: thou shalt give it unto the stranger that is in thy gates, that he may eat it; or thou mayest sell it unto an alien: for thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk." (Deuteronomy 14:21)

Their understanding of the bold-faced parts, as it had been taught to them by their rabbi, was that God forbids the mixing of meat and dairy while eating. With such a belief, they were genuinely concerned about my well-being in relation to my cheeseburger that I was was about to devour.

Well, I had a Bible in the drawer of my kiosk, and I opened it to the following portion of scripture and had them follow along as I read it to them:

Genesis chapter 18

[1] And the LORD appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day;
[2] And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him: and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground,
[3] And said, My Lord, if now I have found favour in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant:
[4] Let a little water, I pray you, be fetched, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree:
[5] And I will fetch a morsel of bread, and comfort ye your hearts; after that ye shall pass on: for therefore are ye come to your servant. And they said, So do, as thou hast said.
[6] And Abraham hastened into the tent unto Sarah, and said, Make ready quickly three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes upon the hearth.
[7] And Abraham ran unto the herd, and fetcht a calf tender and good, and gave it unto a young man; and he hasted to dress it.

Anyhow, just another one of my boring, sleep-inducing stories that nobody could care less about.

I thought that you would know better; This has nothing to do with mixing meat and milk. You know that it is not literately meat and milk. How could the word of God be literately meat or milk.

Those are metaphors for the basics of the faith vs the deeper things of God. Every babe in Christ must first be fed milk and only later meat (just like infants and children). Unfortunately too many Christians fail to go on to the meatier aspects of the Word.
