Wondering what you say. Is a daily horoscope taboo to you

Or, worse, could I potentially be on pins and needles with you on this subject.
Hmmm, could this thread seem propagandistic, like Hitler persuading entire leaders of a country to kill off one race.

And, not trying to be glib here, this is a serious subject and I hope and pray through it all God strengthens us all.

Have a great Sunday, May you have his 'leading' peace and rest. And, maybe while you are resting you can open up a good fortune cookie and eat without thinking anything of it's saying something like, hmm, how about, 'To get more, you have to do more.'

Hmmm, what does all that 'predictión' say to U, anyway?

HORRORscope. . stay clear, you are relying on occultic means to guide your steps rather than Christ. . this message comes from an ex occultist.. . me. . praise God he saved me from selling my soul to the devil the night before my ritual. . I dont even allow things like Harry Potter movies etc in my house, my kids are not allowed to watch things with magic in them. . after all teach them the way they should go and they will not depart from it, allowing the devil a hold in tv shows into your living room and reading horrorscopes etc. . all give the devil a good hand grip to your soul.

“When you enter the land which the Lord your God gives you, you shall not learn to imitate the detestable things of those nations. There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices witchcraft, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who casts a spell, or a medium or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead" (Deuteronomy 18:9-11).

When they say to you, "Consult the mediums and the spiritists who whisper and mutter," should not a people consult their God? Should they consult the dead on behalf of the living?" Isaiah 8.19

You are wearied with your many counsels; let them stand forth and save you, those who divide the heavens, who gaze at the stars, who at the new moons make known what shall come upon you. Behold, they are like stubble; the fire consumes them; they cannot deliver themselves from the power of the flame. Isaiah 47.13-14a

They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshipped and served created things rather than the Creator. Romans 1.25

I'm not normally one to bombardthe singles forum with scripture, but I feel it's necessary in this case. Reading horoscopes, fortune cookies, etc. may seem harmless on the surface, but they can be the beginning of a downward spiral into dependency or obssession with such things. Ephesians tells us that light has nothing to do with darkness. It's not something to play with.

We are not to seek guidance from the stars, the dark realm, etc. In seeking direction for our lives, this is the instruction we have been given by scripture:

If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. James 1:5

Surely you desire truth in the inner parts; you teach me wisdom in the inmost place. Psalm 51:6

For the LORD gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. Proverbs 2:6

He changes times and seasons; he sets up kings and deposes them. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning. Daniel 2:21

I think you say it all here Julianna. Daily horoscopes may seem just a bit of harmless fun, but, it is a serious insult to God. as you quite rightly pointed out:

Horoscopes are nothing more than Idolatry. (Idols are things you put your Faith in other than God) How can the stars know anything about you?

The Zodiac is actually a perversion of the Hebrew Mazzaroth - which tells the story of Salvation. Betula - (Virgo) is holding a branch in her hand - (Tzemach). The Zodiac has this in its drawings but there is no meaning in it. The Mazzaroth teaches that the Virgin will give birth to the Righteous Branch - (Tzemach) - which is Christ. The Branch of Jesse - the line of David. That is but one example.

Bottom line - Satan is NOT original. He is a visious copycat - a fake! Everything is God's! The Stars, created on the fourth Day are, "for Times and Seasons" not for divination. YHVH uses the Moon and the Stars to mark His Appointed Times - (Leviticus 23). Satan has ALWAYS tried to steal them.

Leave anything that Satan has stolen behind.

I fond that if you eat a whole bag of fortune cookies, about half of them will come true.

This is a great question, Green. I've never been into horoscopes, but as Zero hinted at... I do wonder how far it goes. I mean, is it ok to read your "fortune" cookie at a Chinese restaurant?

I know someone at work who went to lunch with a Christian friend, and the Christian thoroughly chewed her out and lectured her for reading the piece of paper inside her fortune cookie.

I'm not sure if that's right on target or if it would be considered extreme? (Even though I never check my horoscope... I admit to reading fortune cookies purely for the amusement...)

Personally, I wouldn't read the fortune cookie... t The problem with these sorts of things is that we trivialize what is actually evil. we Know the fortune cookie itself is just random texts to sell as a product, but its the ideolgy andpractice behind it that robs God of His Glory.

Yes! Leave it. Or, you shall become the OWNER of a lonely heart, you will indeed be completely filled at first before he takes what you thought was yours, leaving you empty, craving, for what can only be given by God that can not and will not ever go from your life-- the joy of God himself, given, freely, to you. :)

---hmmmpf, green. And , what in praytell did that have to do with this thread what you just said???

Cling to that which is good, like bling. (Just kidding, but, of course, if you don't believe me , ask the dishes, and, they don't say they believe you, ask the grey stuff, they always say it's delicious.

Satan can be smooth can't he (just ask Eve), the answers you want are soooo just around his corner.

So, if you read a horoscope are you trying to tell us it's o p e n ing the gate to sin, for Satan to come on in?
Absolutely, no doubt, as julieannie, gimzani, et al, have said.
------
I may be still playing Dévil's advocate with this next part (zeroturb is standing in a corner somewhere now smiling, temporarily unattached from the 'hole in his soul.' ;) The daily horoscope , what could be an exceptive reason to read that predictive bit of advice. Ever? Never? Or, when could the stars in the sky tell you something astrologically good? Again, the question is, could they ever reveal something good for your life. How?

-----Well , you are single, I am too so, if you can (not required) , keep your answers unraveling with singleness in mind. The frustrAtions of singleness! :)

---one last thing.....remember, in the bible, the part where Jesús did judge others on Earth, those moneychangers setting up tables to sell their wares in the church were definitely judged by Him.

But this thread is NOT the place to be judging others, state your opinion and let others do so, too. And God only knows our heart, our true reasons for why we do the things we do, and, why we say the things we say. Good or bad, God knows (Samuel 16:7).

Remember this too, by what means did God use to show the three wiseman how to find the baby, Jesus? Did they just get lucky and counted their lucky stars they found that tub of goo in a manager?

A star. Right, that's how God showed the wisest of men how to find that tub of goo, Jesus.

The stars in the sky can not then be used for an 'astrology' good? Absolutely, they sure can . Remember this too , per scripture , I think pretty sure (in 4 gospels), God is the same today, as yesterday, as will be forevermore.

----Remember, state your opinion mercifully, humbly, per the subject matter. I encourage you to pray before you leave it. THIS topic is serious stuff and I would not want any of my brothers or sisters in Christ, hurt, nor feeling blamed, from what you , or , I, too, have said.

God bless your Sundays.

Horoscope is based on the Zodiac. The Zodiac (or constellations as we say today) was taught by the fallen angels. If you give any credence to the book of Enoch, there is plenty of "naughty angel info" in there. Fallen angels were up to no good, therefore the Zodiac should be left alone unless you want to study astronomy and know the location and positions of the stars. Using stars to tell the future is connected to lucifer. Why would any Christian even want to have anything to do with that?

Hmmm, ok, I see, yes, yes, astronomy, astrology, different, indeed, one's the study of symbolic meaning and one's the study of the stars constelling, so to speak.

But, to philly, and , the rest, can you EVER or NEVER wrought meaningful sequence, er-umm, hmmm, can you ever find yourself finding how to find, hmm, christian meaning, or, maybe, better way to put it is God-meaning from these type considered taboo things: reading a horoscope from the paper, or web, or reading a fortune cookie's sage advice or, looking up at those stars in the sky?

How so?

I did mention the biblical proof of a star that God used to navigate the wisemen to baby Jesus in the manger.

But what about the horoscope or cookie, can you believe in that means to hear from God?

And, nice of some like Philly to help clarify but here it is not being talked/threaded that stars or horoscopes should be worshipped. We all know they should not. God is a jealous God, put NOTHING idolic before Him, our Saviour who promised us Salvation by dying on a cross. But can you get something good and not evil, showing your future to have hope and not no hope? (Little Jer. 29:11 thrown in ;) )

That is the question, and, not so coincidentally, that is also my poll question. :)

The answer is a resounding NO!

There is no such thing as skirting around whom you serve whole heartedly.. It's either God or the created order. The fact that horoscopes, fortune cookies all originate with seeking wisdom from the the created rather than the creator shows that we cannot have both and be Faithful to God.

So it's upto you:

Elijah's word's ring true:

“How long will you waver between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him.” 1 Kings 18:21

---

---how often , Seoul, do you read a fortune cookie like 'Big changes are coming to your life' and think after ONE DAY (or one week or, maybe even, one year) of nothing big happening that nothing ever will?

'Course, we're not talking (usually) about opening a 100 from a store-bought bag and picking and choosing the good ones. The Lord can (and does) lead our lives and it is up to us (through faith and prayer), like Abraham, to obey. :)

Why can't God speak to you through your Zodiac?

Doesn't letting God speak to you thru that horoscope belittle and knock.down Satan all the more?

I mean, if you already know whom you have chosen to serve, and, live your life daily through that blessed way to walk through life, can't (and won't ) God use all kinds of means to draw you closer and closer to Him.

~ Remember this: We all have a personal walk with Jesus, singles, marrieds, that doesn't' matter, and, sure, God says married are then 'one,'. But, and it's a big BUT, God still speaks to us individually and ultimately marrieds too on their own choose to believe in God. God will judge us INDIVIDUALLY after we die and are on the Judgment Seat, awaiting His opening up our book of life . So, that said, Jesus speaks to EVERYONE personally, it's true, He wants the very best for you, and, of course, that will be honoring and bringing glory to him, daily, and THAT will personalize more and more, and more, your life-living years on Earth , serving Him.

God will NEVER allow us to be tempted beyond what we are able. So, don't worry, His power will keep you from being overtaken by the rite realm of Satan and his minions if He chooses to put a certain bunch of words on a cookie, because, maybe... He (God) can't get your attention how He wants any other way. :)

I think it's kind of like when a non-christian wishes you "good luck". You know there's no such thing as luck, but it would be goofy to smack someone with your Bible for doing that. If you eat fortune cookies, sometimes you see what they say, but that's completely different from sitting around waiting to plan your day until you've consulted your cookies or your horoscope, huh? :)

I used to read my horoscope for entertainment purposes. I thought it was funny, especially because it was never true by the end of the day.

But then I realized at some point that I was actually hoping that some things would turn out. That's when I knew I had to stop reading it. I do believe it is form of sorcery/whitchcraft. Something about the stars and when you were born only whitches could come up with stuff like that.

Many of you have talked about fortune cookies. It seems that the fortune cookies I get are generally encouragers not predicted fortunes. "They will say things like, "Smiles are contageous" or "Your actions speak louder than your words" and the best part is there are ususally some mispelled words or improper grammar.
