Do you consider what Jesus said about communion to be a command also?

According to language and grammar of the institution of the Lord's Supper;
it is neither an obligatory day nor an obligatory practice, i.e. it's optional
rather than mandatory.

The words "this do in remembrance of me" are moderated by the words "for
as often as you" etc, etc. In other words; Jesus set neither a day nor a frequency.

The first day of the week for the Lord's Supper is a custom, but it isn't a
hard and fast rule. In point of fact, the Passover night that Jesus instituted
his memorial was other than the first night.

Interesting point. I'm inclined to agree, it would just seem odd for a person to not to have EVER done so or resolutely refuse to.

Would you see it as a request then?

Bees still gather pollen and make honey on Saturday - and i believe bees have no sin. all creation testifies of our Creator

Lifting your neighbors ox out of a ditch on sabbath counts as rest - because i know He is faithful and i do not worry that He is not =]
Right for the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead so that they are without excuse

He became flesh and dwelt as God among us, I think that's pretty clear to be seen but apparently not for all, When the creator dies in your place for your sins defeats death and raises from the dead, offers salvation as a gift what else can you do except be thankful, how would you go about expressing the love that you feel......Leave your friend's ox in the ditch because you are busy trying to rest? that's where love can be hard work at the same time those neighbors ox can be stubborn

The Lord's Supper, as it is called, was a Seder. It is a moveable feast, and not only the first day of the week, or Yom Rishon.

Meditate on this if it is necessary. As for whether it is a command or not, out of utter respect I cannot say it is simply a suggestion from God.

Sabbath keeping isn’t clear to me. It seems like we’re supposed to keep every day holy and worship God every day. It also seems like there aren’t any clear instructions for the dos and don’ts of sabbath keeping. Seems like they avoided work on the sabbath in the Old Testament, but then again working on the sabbath is good if it betters yours or someone else’s life and that’s an opinion. Seems entirely subjective to me. Seems like if you just keep doing good and living right every day then you can’t go wrong.
Even in Jesus' day there were different ideas of sabbath keeping.
The religious leaders put hard standards on its keeping, and Jesus seen them as hypocrites.

When you study the bible it becomes clearer, and it is about the heart.
The motive and reason for keeping it will determine how you keep it.

The first four commandments are about worship to God. We should worship Him every day, but 4th commandment is about stopping to give time to your creator, Lord, and friend.

The bible is clear that it is not wrong to do good on the Sabbath.
To do what is necessary.
Do we make the sabbath void because we can do good.
The Sabbath was made for man.
Should we do work that isn't needed and could wait until the next day? When God askes us to keep the 7th day Holy (set aside) should we say "no, Lord I'm going to set side the 1st day"?

there was only one Covenant and one Law of Moses.

you cannot just extract the !0 out of and claim they stand alone.
If you look through the old Testament, many covenants were made. Individual covenants with Abram, David, and Moses, and sometimes with the whole nation.
But in regards to the one in Exodus, Ex 19:3-6.
Here are all the elements of a true covenant. If the children of Israel accept, it was ready to be established.
Ex 24:4-8 decribes the service that ratified the pact.
But it failed. Not on Gods side but the human side. We couldn't keep the covenant.
They worshiped the golden image before Moses got down off the mountain.
So does that mean the Ten commandments were not important because the covenant was broken?

Jer 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.

Heb 10:16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;

The original intent of the Lord's Supper was to be a mini sermon rather
than a ritual-- a sort of "lest we forget" reminder of what Christ went
through to protect his fellow men from the wrath of God.

1Cor 11:26 . . For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you
proclaim the Lord's death

Christmas and Easter don't say the right things for Jesus' memoriam; they're
too nice; too cute. His moments on the cross were as ugly as they were
disturbing.

Isa 52:14 . . Many were appalled at him-- so marred was his appearance,
unlike that of any man; his form beyond human resemblance.

Jesus was so badly disfigured during his crucifixion that even his own mother
wouldn't have recognized him had she not been there that day in the
audience watching the scene unfold.

The shocking fact about Jesus' crucifixion is that the Romans didn't cause the
injuries described by Isa 52:14, no; it was his own Father's handiwork.

Isa 53:10 . . It pleased The Lord to bruise him; He has put him to grief.

The damages done to Jesus by his own Father hints to what God has in
store for folks at the judgment depicted by Rev 20:11-15, i.e. it seems very
probable to me that prior to their termination in the lake of brimstone, the
lost will first be severely bashed and beaten to a bloody pulp.

Monday 8-15-22 2nd. Day Of The Weekly Cycle, Av 16 5782 56th. Summer Day

  • The Sabbath is a memorial of creation. Every time we rest upon the seventh day, as God did at creation, we commemorate that grand event. (Exodus Twenty:11) It is also a sign between God and us that He sets us apart as His special people.
1 And God spake all these words, saying,

2 I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

7 Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:

10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:

11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Love, Walter
I’m gonna throw something at you regarding the seven day creation and Gods true rest

the seventh day sabbath established in the ot

“Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day there shall be to you an holy day, a sabbath of rest to the LORD: whosoever doeth work therein shall be put to death.”
‭‭Exodus‬ ‭35:2‬ ‭KJV‬‬

what the revelation of the new testsment has to say

Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.

For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.

For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, If they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.

For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.

And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.

Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:

again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, Harden not your hearts. For if Joshua had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.

There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭4:1-11‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.”
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭14:13‬ ‭KJV‬‬

when a believer who’s believed the gospel dies in Christ they are entering into thier rest and sabbath. the true The sabbath is found in doing this

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭11:28-29‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Remember when your reading the ot it’s this

“and not as Moses, which put a vail over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished: but their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ. But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭3:13-15‬ ‭KJV‬‬

so things like the sabbath commandment given through Moses is now in this box

blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.”
‭‭Colossians‬ ‭2:14, 16-17‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Moses words were only foreshadows and mysterious forgives of Christ and the gospel like looking through a veil

resting on a day is old testsment , resting each day in Christ and the gospel is Christian sabbath rest and our promised land is what we enter after we cross over Jordan

Meditate on this if it is necessary. As for whether it is a command or not, out of utter respect I cannot say it is simply a suggestion from God.
there’s this creation in scripture

“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭1:1‬ ‭KJV‬‬

the sabbath in the ot corresponds to this creation and testsment which followed so as an example of what I mean

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.”

“Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭2:1-3‬ ‭

he rested from the creation of heaven and earth and so he blessed the seventh day

later in the Bible he begins foretelling a new thing that he’s working on

“For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭65:17‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Thou hast heard, see all this; and will not ye declare it? I have shewed thee new things from this time, even hidden things, and thou didst not know them. They are created now, and not from the beginning; ( see he’s telling of s new thing he’s beginning to do ) even before the day when thou heardest them not; lest thou shouldest say, Behold, I knew them.

Hearken unto me, O Jacob and Israel, my called; I am he; I am the first, I also am the last. Mine hand also hath laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand hath spanned the heavens: when I call unto them, they stand up together.

Come ye near unto me, hear ye this; I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; from the time that it was, there am I: and now the Lord GOD, and his Spirit, hath sent me. Thus saith the LORD, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the LORD thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭48:6-7, 12-13, 16-17‬ ‭KJV‬‬

He’s saying the first creation which was given a covenant law came to this

“The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant. Therefore hath the curse devoured the earth, and they that dwell therein are desolate: therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left. Fear, and the pit, and the snare, are upon thee, O inhabitant of the earth. The earth is utterly broken down, the earth is clean dissolved, the earth is moved exceedingly. The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall be removed like a cottage; and the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall, and not rise again.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭24:5-6, 17, 19-20‬ ‭

and so he’s foretelling the end of the first creation he made and rested on the seventh day he’s saying that one is going to be destroyed but he’s also offering a new covenant tbat will save people of all nations from this coming end ( it’s as the time when Noah was told the earth eas going to be destroyed so have Christian’s been told the same thing ) the gospel can save us from the end of creation and promises us a new and better one

“Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.”
‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭3:13‬ ‭KJV‬‬

the reason I’m talking this , my point is the seventh day sabbath commandment corresponds to the first creation Christian’s are to live as those of the new creation made of Christs promises of faith

remember why God made the seventh day holy ?

“because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.”

that creation is cursed to an end and then you hear Jesus in the gospel who as a man does good works on a sabbath and is despised for it by the letter of the law and it’s keepers

“And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day.

But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work. ( see how the lord isn’t resting from the first creation still ? But is working on Christ on the other new one ? So Jesus isn’t tied down by a sabbath rule based on the creation that’s going to end in fire )

Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.

Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise. For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.

For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will. For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”
‭‭John‬ ‭5:16-22, 24‬ ‭KJV‬‬

that’s the New Testament law it corresponds to the new creation in Christ , created new people in Christ who dont need to keep a single day holy above the others because they themselves are called to follow after holiness every day everyday is the lords day to a Christian remembering where he is everyday

“What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭6:19-20‬ ‭KJV‬‬

everything is new there’s no earthly man made temple the temple is the believers on earth and wherever they are

There’s no high priest on earth that intercedes like in the ot , he’s in heaven on the throne of his kingdom revealed as the right hand of God.

“Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; a minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched,

and not man.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭8:1-2‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭4:14‬ ‭KJV‬‬

There’s nothing wrong with a man resting day a week or anything it’s actually healthy to get rest after working

but resting a day a week isn’t going To somehow I’m press holiness on the lord is the thing . When we learn to do good consistently on any and every day we’re given and not do evil consistently while we pass through this world is what really matters the ot can’t save us it can help us learn but when the gospel comes it’s our testament being given

it’s good to observe a day to the lord it’s better if it is today we observe to him , and let that be true of every day

Hello Pilgrimshope, As I can see we have different views as to The Sabbath, but the point about this issue is whether are we to keep His commandments are not as to what He has said rightly dividing His words unto Him.

As He has left us examples to follow His steps: 1 Peter 2:21
21 For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:

I gave one reason why the 10 commandments are not the old covenant. (No poor promises in the Ten commandments)

A second reason = the old covenant was faulty. Heb 8.7
The 10 commandments were not faulty. They were written by God and if you say they are faulty you are saying God is faulty.
Psa 19:7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul:...

The old covenant was faulty
The law was perfect.

They can't be faulty and perfect at the same time.

Are we spiritual Jews?

Rom 11:16-17
For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches. 17 And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree;

When has the graffed branch ever changed the roots. We become part of the fullness of the plant.

As spiritual Israelites, Heb 8, 9, and 10 are important to understand.

The new covenant is centered in Jesus. And Jesus will write the laws on our heart.

I study a great deal about North Americas early Indian population. In one older book by a husband wife team of anthropologists studying and painting/sketching in the 1800’s, they relayed an incident of an older Indian driving his wagon into town when a preacher stopped him and asked why he was working on the Sabbath.

The old Indian thought for a second before he responded, “Oh, me see, you worship your God on this day, me worship my God everyday.”

”The Gospel of the Redman”-Ernest Thompson Seton
I hope everyone worships God everyday, just because you keep the Sabbath holy as the commandment states, doesn't mean you can't worship God every day.
Because you worship God every day doesn't mean you can take His name in vain, or lie, or steal, or forget the Sabbath.
The question is ... should we obey the Ten commandments today?

Jas 2:10-12 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. 11 For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law. 12 So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.

We are saved by grace and Jesus will cover our sins by His blood, but "do we continue in sin that grace might abound"....Rom 6:1

REST in God…. God has provided REST in God’s PRESENCE….. TOTAL REST.

The Sabbath is a spiritual place where God is pleased with His Creation and His Creation is perfect in knowing Him our Creator and walking with Him and communing with Him… pure LOVE.

EVERYTHING is finished, there is nothing lacking or nothing not known….great love and fellowship with God and each other.
