I NEVER said the LOF was literal, but scholars believe that the LOF could be a distant star, which is a BALL of fire. Do you understand what the word "ball" means, and how that might help up understand what a LOF may be? Or do you understand what a "lake" is? Maybe that might help you relate to what the LOF is.
