Are monitors like snakes, or maybe it's a characteristic of reptiles in general?

I used to watch a few snake-breeding channels that explained that there's a big controversy over feeding with live vs. frozen/pre-killed prey. Apparently, many argue that the live prey (claws, teeth, etc.) can tear up/damage/kill a reptile in the process.

But they also explained that in some cases, the snakes refuse to eat prey that was already dead, and so living prey is the only option... ?
You know a lot about that challenge. That is very important for any reptile keeper to know so that their pet doesn't get harmed and the feed prey does not suffer.
I didn't like to see feeder rodents suffer either. That's why I came up with a solution. Feeding live rodents is unnecessary nearly all the time if you have someone that can teach the proper technique. We designed special feeder devices to solve that problem. That way the feed prey that has been humanely euthanized can be stored in a freezer and thawed for convenience. The pet then can be fed without fear of it being bitten or harmed in any way.

I dont think they kiss each other in those books.

well yesterday one of the garden club ladies actually won a frog
she didnt kiss him (or it could have been a her, how could you even tell) it was a painted clay one an artist had made as a garden ornament.

I do not have a frog garden ornament but I do have a tuatara and Ive seen several lizards hiding in the undergrowth. I dont have a pond in my garden thats attractive to frogs though. I'd like to make one the only thing I have is a pot with water in thats growing taro.

Frogs do indicate that your ecosystem is healthy though they like living near fresh water, tunnels are evn built for them so they can cross the roads safely up in the rainforest near me.

I dont know about toads though, I heard cane toads are a problem in Australia, but then every animal seems to be a problem there.

I don't have videos, but have held classes like this that get into more details, feature the actual animals that eat the bugs and have supplies available to make your own toad house. They work surprisingly good and are fun to decorate.
The season's is getting late, but they last indefinitely and will be there for next spring.
Anyone who wants more details can post here or PM for the asking.

I dunno if I could live with a prince....Princes these days have a lot of issues, as do princesses. They dont seem all that happy, despite what Hello! magazine may want you to believe.

Maybe im just cynical, but anyone growing up in the 80s knows all about what troubles the royal family were constantly having. I mean granted they were rich peoples problems, so it was more like what million pound outfit can I wear on my next tour of the empire, but still. Too much drama.

The title says it all.

Inquiring minds want to know:

1. Would you kiss this face???

2. What about if kissing this creature would result in you getting the prince/princess/companion of your dreams as a result?!?

And these aren't your little garden variety toads, either.

Unfortunately, I have several CC friends who know that one of my extreme, irrational phobias is of toads and frogs, and occasionally (read: all too often) they enjoy taking advantage of my great fears.

Wasps? Hornets? Spiders (as long as they're not the size of my hand)? No problem.

But if you cross my path with one (or worse, a group) of these beady-eyed, questionably suspicious-looking amphibians, you can almost place bests on me jumping and screaming. I can only blame it on bad childhood memories of deadheading my Mom's petunias as a kid and a "bumpy rock" jumping out at me, and a boy at summer camp who came up to me and said, "I have a surprise for you!"

The last thing I saw was a pair of beady little eyes popping up over the boy's cupped hands as I screamed and ran away. NO.THANK.YOU!!!

And to this day, I still shudder when I see petunias at local garden centers.

A few days ago, a CC friend sent me a picture of a toad that she and her mom had encountered while coming home from grocery shopping. She said it was about the size of a personal pan pizza.

Jiminy Crickets, the picture alone made my heart stop!!!

And then my friend sweetly suggested, "Why don't you kiss him, Seoul? After all, he might turn into a prince!"

(For anyone who might be unfamiliar with this, there is a well-known fairy tale here in the USA in which a princess kisses a frog and he becomes a handsome prince.)

Uh....

I think I'll take my chances at STAYING SINGLE, THANKS.

HOWEVER... What about the rest of you?

If you could kiss a face like this and it would turn into the prince or princess of your dreams, WOULD YOU DO IT?!?

I am really curious to hear the answers!

Just a fun little thread to kick off the weekend!
My late wife would have! She loved frogs and toads!

I was going to post a picture that we have...but I don't know where it is.

Ive just read Finding Freedom the story about Harry and Meghan.

Theres a prince in it but no frog...however the British Prince gives up his royal status and title to run off with his american wife, so it must be love right?

Apparently his previous girlfrinds Chelsy and ? can t remember her name...didnt want to marry Harry BECAUSE he was a prince...they didnt want to deal with media following their every move or criticism from royal courtiers who are notorious for gossipping about their lives as they got nothing better to do.

I suppose if you really WANT to live in a gilded cage...but most women who marry wouldnt want that no matter how fine the wedding is.

While Meghan had it bad Catherine also was widely criticised for marrying Prince William...anybody who isnt already a princess is seen as a commonor and thats like trailer trash to an aristocrat.

getting back to OP I have not thought about having a companion of my dreams honestly, I myself am not always companionable lol

Its probably like those plant combos in companion planting i.e Borage like strawberries. peas and potatos, marigolds with everything (cos they repel pests) but there are certain plants that dont go together and hate each other, and they should NEVER be planted together.

apparently these are very bad companions...

carnation and hyacinth
parsley and mint
rosemary and potatoes
wormwood and everything

Lol, same here. I don't think I'd like to deal with the drama, or pressures of royal society either.

I don't mind frogs and toads (I used to catch them with friends as a kid, plus we have a couple tiny ones in our garden. Don't worry, @seoulsearch I won't post a close up photo :) ) But anyway, I've never encountered a frog that was that big! I don't think I'd like to kiss one, whether they're big or small...

like a pointless exercise.

euthanaia is poison so, if you're feeding snakes poisoned rodents, you'll just end up killing the snakes anyway.

sorry the reply thing deleted

I just wanted to say if you feeding snakes euthanised rodents i.e rodents that have been poisoned, you'll just end up killing the snakes anyway.

pointless exercise! Snakes already have their own venom thats designed to euthanise their prey. Why do it for them. stupid.
